“It's OK”
Desk service was impeccable. Housekeeping not so much. Stayed 3 nights and did not have coffee service replenished any of the days. 2nd day the bathroom towels were not replenished, and a used towel from the day before was still on the floor when I returned to my room in the evening. It was quite a few blocks to the subway entrance. The neighborhood was not very clean, though it was well lit.
“An Ok experience”
I stayed at this hotel in Brooklyn for a meeting I had early Monday morning in the surrounding neighborhood, and wanted to be close to the site. Overall a pleasant visit, the service was good at the front desk, the rooms were clean, no problems checking in or out. I stored my luggage after check out and came to collect it after my meeting. My only complaint is that it is very noisy- the walls are very thin and the doors have a large gap underneath them, so sound travels. Also the neighborhood itself was very noisy at night. Being a light sleeper I found this to be irritating. Also the hotel is within walking distance to the subway, however at night it's not recommended to walk even though this is a nice part of Brooklyn.
“Convenient, suited us fine”
We were assigned two rooms in the basement, which I assumed was because we had a dog, but may also have had to do with some large groups staying at the hotel that weekend. The noise all through the night from staff room down the hall (doors slamming, voices not lowered in hallway) woke us up (but not my parents around the corner down the hall) and also had our dog barking every time that door banged shut. If guests have to share a floor with the offices and staff room, there should at least be courtesy given to sleeping guests. Quiet between 11pm and 7 am is not much to ask from hotel employees. Other than that, the location was very near where we needed to be, the neighbourhood is lively a couple of blocks away but dead immediately surrounding the hotel. The room was clean and the bed comfortable.
“Great Staff but small, noisy room”
Our room was extremely small - it was very difficult for two people to move around the room. There was a vending machine right outside our door and people were using the machine and talking until about 2:00 or 2:30 in the morning. Difficult to sleep. The neighbor hood wasn't very nice but it didn't seem unsafe. We were comfortable walking to and from LIU at night. The staff was excellent and the room was in good condition and very clean.
“Very close to subway”
Hotel very close to subway lines. Neighborhood was safe to walk through, but not the best. Good choice for a stay in NYC at a less expensive hotel.
“might as well spend your money elsewhere.you can get luxury for ten dollars more at best western on”
I HAD A SMOKING ROOM AND IT IS AS IF THEY NEGLECTED KEEPING IT CLEAN BECAUSE WE ARE SMOKERS.THE BATHROOM WAS DUSTY,THE MIRRORS WERE DIRTY,YOU CAN HEAR EVERYTHING IN THE HALLWAY,U CAN SMELL SMOKE ONCE YOU GET OFF THE ELEVATOR.I SMOKE IN MY HOUSE AND YOU CANT TELL I SMOKE INSIDE,SO WHATS THE DIFFERENCE THERE?THE CABLE WAS TERRIBLE,IT HAD LIMITED CHANNELS AND THE HOTEL PARKING WAS VERY LIMITED,THE BEST THING AT THE HOTEL WAS THE CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST.THEY CAN BRING IT UP A NOTCH, AFTER ALL,THEY ARE A WELL KNOWN CHAIN.PRICE WAS TOO HIGH FOR WHAT YOU RECEIVE.
“Disappointed with this very conveniently located hotel in Brooklyn NY”
We have been using the Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Brooklyn, New York for over three years as my son moved into the area so it is very conveniently located and usually at not such a ridiculously high price. However, on our most recent trip, we were put in a room in the basement. The room had no clock, nor curtain to block out the light streaming in from the parking lot, and was so exceedingly noisy that around 3am in the morning, the hotel staff went around begging guests to please be quiet. We will never stay in this hotel again. It is worth paying $30 - $50 more to stay further away in a hotel that provides an acceptable room where guests can actually sleep at night.
“Avoid if possible”
I was placed in a basement room with a window looking out at the wheels of cars. The room was very small, bathroom door would not remain open and the wood clothes closet door would not stay closed. I came in the first night to find the air conditioning on full blast, the room was freezing, the heating system was very slow to work and the thermostat had nothing to do with the true temperature of the room. Every night there were doors slamming that would shake my room from 11pm to after 1am. NOT the holiday extended stay of their ads...avoid if possible.
“very welcoming”
we had to have an extended holiday here due to hurricane irene .. and were well taken care of .nothing was too much trouble. the staff were good especially steinman dean and james ... we would stay here again . the breakfasts were very good......
“Great Place and Location, decent value for Carrol Gardens area”
My friend lives in Carrol Gardens Brooklyn and I was able to walk to his place in about 10 minutes from this hotel, as well as all the bars on Smith Street. The hotel itself is everything you'd expect from a Holiday Inn Express. I liked that they turned the AC on and the room was nice and chilly when I arrived in it. If I had one complaint (and this is not the Hotel's fault) it is this: I walk everywhere when I visit NYC. During the day I never felt any discomfort walking to or from my hotel, but as I was walking back at 4am I was a little uncomfortable for 2 blocks through a section of Butler Street that's completely abandoned warehouses. Maybe this is the blame of the Google Maps app on my phone, whose walking route feature led me through there. Anyhow I would recommend this hotel to anyone who makes less that 60K/year who needs to stay near the Carrol Gardens neighborhood of Brooklyn. I'd also recommend the cabs, they're much cheaper in NYC than they are in my hometown of Rochester, NY - I'll cab it through the dodgy neighborhood on my next visit when I stay here.
