“New and great”
This is a new hotel -- opened in early 2009 -- and I was very satisfied in all important respects. Clean, efficient and very reasonable price. Superb location in Midtown, nr Broadway and adjacent to subway. Would certainly recommend to business or leisure travellers looking for a respectable but not pricey place in Midtown.
“A real gem”
I stay in New York hotels all the time and I have to say that this little hotel is a real find. Tucked away on W35th (across from Brendan's restaurant which is also excellent)the Garden Inn rooms are very nicely outfitted, feature modern design and are very fresh and clean. Internet is free. The entire facility appears to be new. My only minor complaint is that their breakfast buffet is $17.95 and there's no cheaper option. If you want a bowl of oatmeal or a slice of toast, it's $17.95, period. I discovered two small coffee shops a block away and ate for less than $5.00. Unless you intend to eat a caveman's breakfast, I'd skip the buffet.
“completely satisfied”
Second time in New York. First time stayed in "boutique" hotel in Upper West Side. One star more, cost more, a little more "chic" but overall I was happier with the Hilton Garden Inn West 35th Street. Room was absolutely fine. Two very comfortable beds, empty fridge for your use (not to store overpriced drinks and snacks), microwave oven (so they were happy for you bring in your own food if you chose to do so), coffee maker, flat screen television, etc. Bathroom had good size walk in shower cabinet (nice powerful shower) and was very clean, as was the rest of the room and hotel as a whole. A slight twist of the neck from the front window and the top third of the Empire State Building was visible. There would probably be an even better view from the floors above ours. Only slight gripes about the room was the noise from the air-con unit if you kept in on during the night and the fact that there was no in-room safe. You could use boxes at reception (no charge), but surely nowadays there should be one in the room. A big plus for the HGI was the location. As I said just round the corner from the ESB, and you could be in Macy's two minutes after leaving the hotel. Time Square a ten minute stroll etc. You are right in the middle of Manhattan. Also many of the subway lines have stations within minutes(some within seconds) of the front door. (top tip for first timers- use the subway!). So location is great. For a three star hotel, I was completely satisfied. I would recommend.
“very impressed”
very nice hotel... the rooms kinda small though but that's fine i guess.. the view of the room was good, it was the empire state building.. once you walk out of this hotel the subway is on your left and macys is pretty much across the street
“hotel was wonderfu”
the hotel location was excellent and the room was well kept. o
“Thanksgiving in New York”
We went over Thanksgiving - The hotel is just around the block from Macys. We tried watching the parade from the street but it was packed. We went to the room and were able to watch it from our hotel window with the TV to explain who was who in the parade. Times square is a short walking distance with no problem areas. Subway acess was right there and we had no problems riding it - although we were prepared for the worst. New York had always seemed foreboding to me but it turned out to be a great trip. I must mention the concierge at the hotel seemed to be there all the time and was extreemly helpful. The only problem was on the night before the parade when one of the bands in the parade chose to practice for a couple of hours in the street where the parade would be. It was kind of odd to have a full marching band outside your window at 3am - but it only added to the experience
“NYC Birthday Trip October 2009”
We were very happy with this hotel. Specifically, the concierge was very knowledgeable.
“great location”
arrived early and they allowed us to check in without waiting. great location only 2 min walk to Macys and Empire State building, hop on hop off bus and more. Great little suppermarke around the corner. Only problem was we need 3 beds for 3 women and they didn't allow a rollaway so had to share a small double bed which made it a bit cramped.
“Wonderful!”
It was my first time to NYC and everything was great! The staff was helpful and friendly. The room was nice and the bathroom was a good size and I loved the shower! Next time I go back to NY I will defiantly stay at this hotel.
“New and nice”
New, about 3 months old, nicely done, well laid out room, friendly front counter staff. Everything about this hotel was just perfect for our stay. They even found us a room for early check-in! The room wasn't huge, but comfortable, well laid out, and nicely appointed. A few blocks from the Empire State building, Grand Central Station, and the subway, this is a good location for home base.
