“Convenient for JFK”

Arrived early but there was 'no way' they would check us in before 3pm, so we asked to store our baggage were charged $1 per item (2 suitcases, 2 hand luggage, 1 empty tote bag, 1 laptop bag, 1 pair of walking boots) all individually charged for! Asked for guidance travelling into the city the concierge was extremely unhelpful. Wanted just a cup of coffee and were told could only pay $12 for breakfast buffet and I objected was taken through, given a paper cup and told to come back to the desk to pay. On paying asked if we could sit at the restaurant table to drink it and was told to take in and drink it in the lobby. The rooms were very clean and had most items you would need, except my coffee maker was missing, this took 3 phone calls and 2 hours to get one. The evening food menu was a little limited but the food was nice and fresh and the bar staff were very friendly. The fire alarm went off around 11.30 which is not good when you have to be away by 5am to catch a flight. It went off then back on again and after 20 minutes an announcement was made that there was a fault but we had already taken the 7 flights of stairs to exit. There was a wedding party staying in the hotel and at 3.30 an almighty domestic kicked off in the room next to me and continued for an hour or so, along the corridor into the lift, back out and back in the room, screaming and swearing. Nice hotel, but staff need some customer service training as they 'expect' tips regardless of service given.
