“Pleasantly surprised,”
Having read some good and not so good reviews of the Hotel Le Cirque, I decided to take a chance and book it. Thankfully the hotel was a lot better than the other similarly priced "3 STAR Downtown Mystery Hotel" hotel I stayed at a few days earlier. There is no restaurant, but you only have to walk a block or two to find a restaurant. The room was fine, given it was the weekend and 'Mardi Gras' the noise from the other guests was as expected. Nothing rowdy, just high-spirits. The service was good throughout, no complaints. The location is easily walkable for 'Bourbon Street' etc, but I would perhaps consider a taxi if walking back alone in the early hours. If I was to return to New Orleans the 'Hotel Le Cirque' would be on my short-list, and I'd certainly choose the 'Hotel Le Cirque' over the previously mentioned "3 STAR Downtown Mystery Hotel"
“Le Cirque”
Friendly staff but a bit run down Bar was closed and no facilities on the doorstep. But in general a good experience and very good for the St Charles streetcar
“Clean, friendly, convenient, but no amenities, & noisy”
I stayed here in early May 2010 while attending a conference which was on at the same time as Jazz Fest 2010. Helpful and friendly staff. The room was very clean, maintenance is average (cracked basin, shower/bath valve not working 100%). The decor is modern style, but the hotel itself is a concrete block of no particular beauty. Security good with nightlatch, inside lock and non-opening windows (aircon for ventilation). Safe, coffee maker, ironing board, hairdryer and generous towels, + complimentary tea and coffee and shampoo - internet access was free. This hotel is noisy and I did not get much sleep over my 3 nights here. The staff did quieten down a noisy room opposite, but the noise of doors slamming and loud voices in the corridors all night work me up. The hotel is situated within easy transport distance of the convention center and walking or street car to the French quarter is easy. I found the lack of breakfast a big problem. After 14 hours travel I had to wake up and find food to start my day as a stranger to New Orleans. There is a petrol station with an 'On the run' shop opposite the hotel. I bought cereal bars & coffee to get me started on my first day. In all this hotel is OK, the rooms are quite basic and dark (very little natural light), but as I was out all day it didn't matter. For budget basic accomodation, this hotel is OK, but I would not choose to return due to the noise and lack of breakfast facilities.
