“Quite expensive”
We were there for only one day. Hotel looks quite old & very expensive in all terms what has been offered. But location of hotel is quite near at walkable distance to all the attraction places like Bourbon street, French Market, Jackson square etc. & lastly near to I-10.
“Friendly staff and free parking!”
This affordable jewel is located two blocks from the French Quarter and offers FREE monitored parking. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. The room was quaint, simple and clean. *The neighborhood is somewhat questionable, thus I wouldn't recommend the Empress to families traveling with children.
“I'd rather sleep in my car”
I have taken weekend trips to NOLA at least once a month for the past 15 years. Because of a Saints game my last min trip almost didnt happen. Then I FOUND The Empress Hotel on Expedia. This place is a total nasty dump. I was afraid to lay down on the bed. The "clientele" was very questionable. I am not a picky girl and I have stayed in a variety of places but this was not a hotel it was a flop house. Thank God I didn't have my daughter with me. I am familiar with the neighborhood of Treme and I personally think it has a lot of character. Do not think I am insulting the people in this neighborhood. The hotel owners should be ashamed. This place is too gross for even the most desperate of travelers. Seriously, I should have slept in my car at the casino.
“Good hotel to stay”
Good hotel
“Not Impressed w/ Empress”
The deposit is $10... I stained one towel with make-up and the lady up front told me the towel is my only problem and will have to be washed and the cost was $7! That's insane. I told her to keep the whole $10 if she was going to hussle me. So I guess I recommend bringing your own towels. BUT, the hotel itself is perfect for people who just want a place to put their stuff down while they go party. The hotel is walking distance from Bourbon St. That's all we needed. AC, a bed, and bathroom for cheap because we spent no time in the room. I do still recommend this hotel and will be back but only because of the price, not because of the service.
“Only stayed for 2 hours of the 3 night booking”
After check in and review of the room, we thought we would try it and at least stay 1 night. We went on the patio for a bit to plan the evening and was approached by a man that grew up in the area and said no one in the neighborhood was to be trusted, &don't ask for directions. He was high on pot. Then a lady came out there and she could hardly walk, she was high too. We went to the room, booked at the Best Western and checked out. We did not feel safe at all! Now I have to try and get my money back.
“The Empress Hotel”
You get what you pay for, with this place. The accomadations are small and outdated and the bathrooms are some of the worst that I have seen. The hallways smell of bleach; And then to top it all off, you can not take your room key with you, you must drop it off at the front desk on the way out. This bothered me. How do they know what room I am staying in? What if I came back and asked for another key, to a room which I was not staying??? I asked the young front desk attendant how would they know which room is mine. She replied, "I'll remember you". When I returned many hours later to my hotel, the same front desk attendant was there and she greeted me with "What room?" Needless to say, I was unimpressed. The next night, I went out again, dropped my keys in the drop slot on the way out, and upon returning many hours later, there was a new front desk attendant. He asked "What room"? I asked him, if I could make a note on my reservation where I had to show them my I.D. in order to get my room key to ensure that it was infact me. He checked my I.D. that night and none of the other employees got the note nor checked my I.D. I checked out a day early from The Empress Hotel. It is aproximately 1 mile walking distance to the center of Bourbon St. Save yourself the hassle and find a better place than The Empress Hotel. Again, you get what you pay for, here...
“Keep an Open-Mind”
It is extremely important to remember that you get what you pay for. If you're looking for something fancy, spacious and full of granduer for this price....happy hunting. If you need somewhere to crash after a long night on Bourbon street and a hot shower, then this just might be the place for you. I was in NO for about 4 days, and I can honestly say that in that time, I spent about 16-18 hours in the room, and the majority of those hours I was asleep. It did the job so that I was able to spend the majority of my money partying and seeing the sights. The location is awesome, the staff is decent and you don't have to worry about losing your keys while you're out. If this sounds like its too much for you to bear, try somewhere else downtown and be ready to pay for it too. Just make sure you have your own towels, a can of Lysol, and a spare blanket (you can never be too sure, but that's anywhere.) The room is fairly small, but it does the job. If you want luxury, you're going to have to spend more and go somewhere else. Personally, I would stay again.
“It's Budget. Extremely Budget. 'nuff said”
If you're looking for anything other than budget don't go here. It's a budget hotel and doesn't pretend to be anything else. If you spend a lot of time in your room watching TV go elsewhere (but then why are u in NOLA anyway?) If you just need a place to lay your head, shower, and get ready to go live it up...this is a great deal! Note: If you need more TP you might just want to bring your own. It's like you're really putting them out to ask for a new roll.
“Empress Impressed”
If you just need a place to put your stuff while you walk over to Bourbon St to party, this hotel is perfect. It is what it is, a bed, bathroom, and a small TV. I had no complaints.
