    “Jamaica Vacation”

Samsara was better than Legends (5 days at each). Busy road so difficult to walk anywhere but a beautiful view, very nice staff, and lots of wide open space - unfortunately, hurricanes off shore made the sea too rough for snorkeling and high waves caused the pools to be closed for a couple of days

    Area recommendations
the westend, where Samsara is located has the best restaurants, but no beach -- the beach area has been eroding for years and there isn't much beach so the lounge chairs are on top of each other

    “Wonderful Stay”

The Samsara Resort exceeded my expectations as I based my choice on reviews. It was an average facility and needed some upkeep but the staff was exemplary, helpful and made the stay very enjoyable. The food also exceeded my expectations and would rank it at least a 4 out of 5 and for a moderately priced hotel, I thought the chefs outdid themselves. I also was in communication with the staff before and after the trip and they were quick to respond to all my questions and concerns. I would defintely return. For the price, you could not beat the accomodations.

    “No problem Mon!!”

The only problem that we had was with American Airlines. We had delays everywhere, especially in Miami. Our luggage of course did not arrive when we did, and it didn't get to the resort until 17 hours after we did. Not to mention we were able to walk away from what felt like three crash landings. However, Jamaica was very nice and friendly as usual.

    “Location, Location!”

The Samsara hotel offered an amazing location, view, and pool for an even better price. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The view off the cliffs was breathtaking, and there were ample covered lounge chairs to enjoy the view. Also, it was great to have a free shuttle to the sister resort legends, which offered an amazing white sand beach. Overall, I can't wait to go back and had a great time for an awesome price.

“The infestation of roaches was a little disturbing”

I recently stayed at Samsara. I realize the resort is old and in need of repair. I was prepared for that. I wasn't prepared for was the roaches in my room and the complete lack of concern from both front desk staff as well as management. The first night there, I discovered a fairly small roach in my bathroom. This didn't concern me too much as I am aware that it is rainy season and roaches love the damp weather. The 2nd night I was there, a 2 inch cockroach greeted me in the bathroom and I was unable to sleep for the rest of the night. The next morning it was still there, and my friend and I set about to kill it. We then went and got some baygone from the local store (at our expense) and came back to fumigate our room. Upon spraying, roaches started to appear from under the bathroom sink and toilet. We killed a total of 6 that morning. We asked for a room change and were denied! The next night another 2 inch cockroach was discovered, this time trying to crawl into bed with me. I didn't sleep again for the rest of the night and by now I had taken to sleeping outside once dawn broke. It was at this time that we asked to go to Legends a day early as this is their sister resort and we had reservations there. Our request was completely ignored, nobody got back to us and when we questioned staff about it, they simply apologized and again did nothing. Management: FUMIGATE YOUR HOTEL!! Or at least acknowledge when there is a problem, please don't ignore your guests!!

    “Definitely not 3 star!”

I was extremely disappointed with the Samsara Hotel. This hotel has not been updated since the 1970's, at least. While there are expansive sun decks, a pool, and even a spa, all of the areas are extremely outdated, rusty and weather worn. I really don't imagine any money is being put into upkeep. While our rooms were clean, there were no room safes, the door had no knob, the free wifi was coming from the restaurant across the street, so dropped in and out, and they were rationing towels while we were there. I can't even explain the logic of the towel "trade off", but note you will not receive hand towels, washcloths or beach towels at this hotel. If you take your room towels to the beach, expect to return to no towels at all. Your best bet is to bring your own from home. And might I add there were torrential downpours for 3-4 hours every day of our stay, so towels were a necessity. As for room service, no one will bring anything to your room, so regardless of whether you call, you will have to go to the front desk to pick up. They will tell you they can not get a cab for you, though you see them passing by. I have never seen such disinterest and indifference in my life. I am not a demanding New Yorker, someone who only travels first class, or is hard to please. However, this hotel needs to be shut down, and revamped top to bottom. Hospitality and the millenium skipped this place.

    Comment from the hotel's management
Thanks for your review. We are eager to hear from our guests regardless of the type of feedback. It helps us improve our service and gives us an opportunity to correct any misinformation for other readers. Each year the hotel is updated, renovated, and well-maintained. We receive countless letters of thanks and support from our many repeat guests who personally see these updates with each passing year. In addition we work very hard to provide accurate information so that visitors will know as much as possible about our hotel ahead of time. Our website FAQ’s and Expedia’s property amenities advise our valued clients exactly what we do and do not offer. Clients will see that we do not advertise in-room safes. It clearly states safety deposit boxes are at the front desk. They will also see that we do not advertise beach towels and do encourage guests to bring their own or purchase them locally. Wash cloths are available at all times however. Room-service is not an advertised amenity either but our staff is very happy to deliver a limited menu to our guest rooms as well as any other item they may need. We have three friendly and reliable taxi drivers contracted to the hotel that we are happy to call upon request. If they are otherwise occupied there are numerous taxi’s passing by the hotel entrance. In a small town like Negril is not possible to call a taxi association to reserve a taxi. However our security guard is able to flag one down for any guest in need of one. In conclusion, the management genuinely regrets that you were dissatisfied with your stay. However we also feel that if the traveler read our hotel description more carefully perhaps we would have been in a more realistic position to meet their expectations. Thank you again for your visit. We hope to see you again.

    “relaxing stay”

Nice stay for a very reasonable price. We did all inclusive for a few days and then were comfortable enough to walk around the neighborhood for the last few days and ate at surrounding restaurants. Shuttle to legends is handy. Had a bad impression of the owner/manager ; he spoke very badly to employees in front of guests and then accused us of "taking" their cooler (which was our own). The security man straightened it out but it was totally uncalled for. He needs to take a vacation himself and relax a bit!

    Area recommendations
walking down the 7 mile beach is wonderful ; you can do all your souvenir shopping right there and it is mostly local vendors. We also had a great taxi service through Dudley's big ship tours. He arranged a great day adventure for us and shuttled us to the airport at a very reasonable price.

    “"Negril taught me a lot"”

I booked into the Samsara because they were the only other choice I had for the price I wanted to pay per night. The gave me one of their apartment and it was lovely. There was a problem with the television, and sometime their were this terrible smoke coming from behind the apartment and you MUST be very carfeful crossing the street to the receptionist or vice versa. Apart from these three issues, I had a lovely time and would recommend this hotel to others.

    Area recommendations
BE VERY CAREFUL WALKING ON THE WEST END. WALK BEHIND EACH OTHER AND PAY ATTENTION TO THE CARS IN BOTH DIRECTIONS. Once you follow these simple but very important instructions, then they are so many great places to eat at very reasonable prices. Xtabi great for morning tea, Push cart opens after 3pm, Choices OMW the food is fantastic and the prices are very good, one business to the right of Choices is another great place to eat, and if you like pizza then Samara, oh, I almost forgot DeBar, Sips and Bites and just before the center of town, go to the Corner Bar around 9 pm. Then their is Catch a Falling Stars, great for a drink but dinner is very expensive and just ok, but the sunset is worth the price of dinner, better than Rick's CAfe which is so touristy. Then on Saturday night if you are there, go to Seastar for a lovely buffet and live entertainment. There is also a great Jamaican resturant where the locals and those of us who stay in Negril long enough call Sweet Spice near the Texaco gas station. Eat Jamaican patties, and have a Ting with JB. Please walk the seven miles beach it is fantastic and a great accomplishment and when you get to Cosmo stop and jump into the ocean and then have a real Jamaican rum punch before heading back to your hotel.
