“Will go back, beautiful beach and great location..”

Hotel staff needs to more courteous, especially breakfast host, housekeeping was great....Security was very unprofessional, came back late one night ,waited five minutes for the guard to remove the chain, then had to use the car headlights to see if anyone was there, only to realize she was sleeping..,She then woke up and remove the chain, but her face look like she she wanted to kill us for waking her up....

“no problem, ...in negril”

After seven days spent at Rooms, Negril, I returned home realizing I enjoyed a pretty perfect vacation. We (I traveled with friends) were delayed about 1hr at the airport before transfer to hotel (Jamaica Tours). We waited for others, switched buses, & inhaled fumes. Our driver was great. Check in quick. My room was clean, comfy, cool, w/ balcony ok. Bath/ shower great. Pool (basic)inviting, bar/restaurant drinks/food and staff great!!!! Beach nice. Vendors galore; a firm, friendly, no thanks works, for most; security good. Enjoyed local restaurants/bars (many close) & cliff side dining (west end by Ricks) Rained daily, not much sun, air temp nice. Enjoyed return bus trip to airport (same J.T). Last views of the beautiful Jamaican countryside.... perfect, just as it is. With that being said, other guest had no hot water in shower and trouble with room key. One complaint about steak at restaurant being bad; pretty sure staff would offer new selection. Travel smart; lock up all valuables/use deadbolts. One guest caught maintainence red-handed in room with pocketbook (police called). It can happen anywhere. Don't let it happen to you. If you plan on booking this hotel, I would. Be sure "Rooms" in "Negril" is what and where you want to be on your vacation;I don't think you will be dissapointed. The possibilities for your days spent there are endless. Relax, the staff takes care of you. Enjoy the freedom of a non-inclusive property Think sun, I will too!

Area recommendations
I would recommend staying in Negril, non all-inclusive. You can walk for a long way on the beach and experience the great parts of Jamaica. It's fun!! Vendors, restaurants, shops, bars, & water sports are all there for you to enjoy, or not. Its up to you. Jamaican all-inclusives are awesome too; you will be well taken care of. The non-inclusives, however, allow you to explore alittle more. It may not be for everyone. You have to be a bit street smart; friendly, but firm with the vendors. The benefit is having the opportunity to chat with other travelers or the Jamaicans to get recommendations on restaurants, places to see, things you would like to do, etc. Its really relaxing and your vacation is just like a present that you open slowly. The best part being you get to put whatever you want in the box! Doing that in Negril is a sure thing because the Jamaican people are very down to earth, authentic, & lovely. You just need to be able to appreciate their tourist agenda as part of their culture. No problem, mon! Get past that and enjoy time well spent. I would also recommend dining and /or staying in the west end on the cliffs in Negril. The setting is very unique. It is beautiful and not to be missed.
Getting around
Getting around Jamaica is a serious subject. If you have never been; prearrange transportation through a reputable source. Always use care when you travel. While on the island, use taxi's with red license plates; they are insured. Keep the business cards of "red" plate taxi's for future trips. The taxi drivers are great! They customize your travel, and watch out for you. Get information from other travelers and your resort. Know where you are going and use a taxi. If you do want to walk in the resort areas, at night, never walk alone on the streets, or the beaches. Seriously!!!!!! Never stop to talk to Jamaicans at night, between resorts or from restaurants. They have no business with you. Jamaica people are smart and have an agenda. You need to be smarter!! Day time walking on the beach is okay, but requires caution. Be firm and friendly with vendors, "no thanks, etc.", & keep walking. If you do want to do business & negotiate (day time) that's okay. Be friendly, and respectful, & you will do okay.

“Great Location, Mediocre Service”

The hotel was on a very nice stretch of 7-Mile Beach. The location itself was perfect, but the local vendors started to get annoying about the 3rd day. We stayed behind the wall, which security enforced Non Hotel Guests from coming across the property lines. The security guards were great! So was Gem, a local Craftswoman hired by the hotel. The food was lacking. I only ate there once, other than the Continental Breakfast. Jermane at the bar was friendly and attentive. We also really liked our housekeeper, who's name I cannot think of. The front desk staff I did not trust. The price of a bottle of water changed from day to day.

Area recommendations
Go to the Canoe Bar up on the West End Cliffs for some great food.

“Almost Paradise!”

The pictures really captured the resort! It is a lovely place and we are definitely going back! It is a pretty place and brings a sense of calmness to you. It felt and looked safe too. Loved the gardens! The continuental breakfast was rather boring so we added other items. wished they added cornmeal porridge to the menu! Oatmeal was boring & not made JA style! Prices weren't bad, but Kayuba has a fantastic breakfast! Enjoyed Sweet Spot's bbreakfast too! The sectioned beach was perfect & we really enjoyed our time thout there. Our room size was perfect. We thought we needed an extra chair in the room but we ate on the patio which was VERY private. Select a room on the ground level - more privacy! The bed was so comfy & the shower big enough for two!!! We got a peek at a room used by a group of college students! It was huge with 3 beds! Even though the were next door to us we saw and heard nothing, even though there were a lot of beer bottles outside their door each morning! The staff were great! Very pleasant and made you want to smile!! We liked the fact that they recorded when we left the property and when we returned. We have stayed at a number of hotels in Jamaica and this was definitely one of our favourites. We are definitely going back!

“Very clean”

The hotel was very clean and well maintained. Our room had a new flat screen tv and modern bathroom fixtures. There was a small gym with all the necessities for a workout. I was impressed with the 24 hour security provided. I was very pleased with my stay there.

“As Advertised; good value”

Hotel was as advertised, great location and a solid value. Breakfast wasn't much but it was serviceable. Lunch / dinner items were decent. Beach was great; nice area to get away from the vendors if you'd like. I'd go back

“Decent but skimpy”

We really enjoyed our stay in Negril. You can't beat the location. There are lots of restaurants close by and this hotel is pretty well centered on the 7 mile beach. The only negative things we can say are: 1) The continental breakfast is very skimpy. Two-half pieces of toast, one-half piece of pastry, one-half piece of banana bread, one small glass of juice or coffee/tea, and a very small bowl of cereal with lukewarm milk(cereal is only served if requested). 2) The front desk staff were not very friendly, but the security guards made up for it. Really, would it have cost them that much more to give a decent breakfast? It would have added so much to our overall impression of the place and then we would have felt better recommending it to our friends and family. Our room was quite comfortable. Bed was good, bathroom was big, shower was great. Cleaning staff doesn't always do a great job of cleaning the nightstands and dresser tops, and you never know when they'll show up at your door wanting to clean the room during the day. It seems to vary day by day. The beach is unrivalled anywhere. Best sand I've ever had the opportunity to enjoy on a vacation. You couldn't sift a sand beach any smoother than this! Overall, a decent hotel at a decent price in a fantastic location.

Area recommendations
I would definately recommend this general location to enjoy Negril. As previously mentioned, loads of close-by restaurants and a perfect location on the beach. Lots of shopping nearby as well.
Must see
If you want any time in a boat, be it snorkeling, sunset cruise, banana boat ride, or whatever, make sure you talk to Captain Moses. He and his crew (Lobster and Gino) were amazing, and we felt like we became friends with them (Lobster in particular). Amazing people who were more than fair with us, both in pricing and in the way they treated us. You'll see them on the beach by Rooms. Mayfield falls was definately worth going to see. You get to see the real Jamaica and our guide was so good.
Dining
The Sweet Spot Restaurant has amazing food for great prices. It's pretty well right across the road from Rooms. Also Niah's Patties is worth trying out. Authentic Jamaican food at it's best.

“Great inexpensive hotel!”

We just returned from our stay at Rooms and I would recommend it to anyone doing a non all-inclusive! There was a group of 8 of us that stayed for 6 days. My husband and I were first given a room that we weren't happy with (1st floor, a bit dirty, weird smell, view of utility shed) but after asking for a different room we were given a beautiful 2nd floor room that was immaculate. Nice flat screen tv in the room (although our remote didn't work), super nice bathrooms and comfortable beds. We loved this hotel. We did have a problem with not having water for hours on end for a couple of days, but we were able to use the showers in a different room since we had family in other buildings on the grounds. (It was building 7 that had the water outage) Staff is very friendly and helpful. I read many reviews on other sites complaining about the continental breakfast, but I thought it was perfect! I looked forward to it every morning. Definately enough food for the average appetite. The resturant/bar ran out of misc. food/drink ingredients at times. But it wasn't the end of the world.. No worries mon! The pool and beach areas were very nice. They provide beach towels which was a plus. Contact Captain Moses if you want to go on any boat tours! He is great! Went out of his way to drive us to Ricks Cafe in his own car after the water was too rough to dock the glass bottom boat there for us to get off safely! Check out was a breeze, only took about 30 seconds. I will be coming back!

Area recommendations
I recommend going to Myrnas Convenient Store on the beach for your Red Stripe and snacks. About half the price of the hotel bar for the beer. Also, try Shamrocks grocery/convenience store for harder to find food items. After searching endless shops I finally found some Guava Jam/Jelly at Shamrocks! Alfreds Ocean Palace was a great place to eat. Good prices and excellent fried tilapia. And also the Italian Cafe across from Merrills had great food! I recommend the lobster pizza, but be aware that they don't take credit cards.
Getting there
We booked our airport transfer through Reggae-Tours. I would recommend them to anyone! They are by far the best priced transfers out there too. They were so professional and courteous. After submitting a question on their website someone responded to me within a hour! And also followed up with me a couple days later to make sure my question was answered. Our shuttle driver (I think his name was Clive?) was ready and waiting for us with a cooler of cold Red Stripes and water as soon as we landed. He was a great shuttle driver. He was really knowledgable about the landscape and cities we drove through. The shuttle from the airport to Negril was one of the highlights of our trip. It was such a personalized experience, he even stopped at a wayside rest for us to use the facilities and a Red Stripe refill. When it came time for our return pickup at the end of our stay, Clive pulled into the hotel exactly on time, 9am sharp! (After being on Jamaican time for a week I was a little worried about what time we would actually get picked up) If only all companies were as professional and customer service oriented like Reggae-Tours. The very best!
