“Not Sure About This Hotel”
The hotel itself was clean and up to date in decor, but did not meet our expectation of the upgrade to the Palace resort vs the Club resort. For the most part, the staff was nice. The king size bed in the room consisted of two double beds pushed together, so that was a big disappointment. The food at the buffet was good for breakfast, just OK for lunch and dinner. However, the specialty restaurants were wonderful. Great service, great job on the food. The pool and pool bar were good. The beach was beautiful but we were constantly approached and asked if we smoked. We still had a lot of fun and we did relax, but as much as we like the Riu chain, I don't think we will go back to this one.
“Awesome beach...terrible beds.”
It was a great week staying at the tropical palace. The beach was the best I have ever been on. Awesome. Food and everything was pretty standard for All inclusive resorts. The main complaint was the king size bed was actually two double beds put together. My back was sore all week. I would have rather had a queen sized bed or something else. Major draw back. I will go back and stay again. I will just pull the sheets off and sleep on the beach.
“Honeymoon”
Great time at RIU with amazing hotel staff, beaches, and water. The food situation was not great, however. The hotel requires you to get up every 2 days at 8am to wait in line to try and get a dinner reservation at one of the 4 underwhelming restaurants. Most of the time only the 9pm time slot was still open. The buffet was great and very diverse, but the other restaurants were a HUGE negative.
“second time back”
We had visited this same resort about six years ago and had such a memorable vacation that we were always thinking we want to go back. It is small and very comfortable, the staff is always nice. I wanted to make it a little more special and get an ocean view, but it was pretty far away looking through trees.I heard the trick is say ocean front.(next time) The rooms are clean and the mini bar and and frig are a plus. I would diffinitly reccomend if you love a nice beach no shells, stones ,seaweed just beautiful soft sand.(that doesn't get hot) And the water is clean, clear ,calm and warm just the best. it was 85 everyday and I'm loving my tan.Missing that weather it is 30/40 degrees here. Heads up if you go, find out about dinner reservations right away. Go early when it is time to reserve,it is very hard to get reservations at the restaraunts. They don't take too many people
“Great Place”
Went there for my sisters wedding left with another great trip to Jamaica great memories safe travels and great food. Felt safe , everyone was great and nice.!
“Great times!! Very romantic!!”
Me & my husband had a great 7 days at this resort to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. The food ranged from good to very good. The 1st room they put us in smelled a bit like mildew--but when we told the front desk they were very nice & gave us a better room. The views are stunning, beach is amazing, water is so blue & clear. The employees do everything they can to make their guests feel welcome & happy. I seriously can't wait to go back! We've been to Jamaica a few times--and will definitely stay here again soon. So relaxing, romantic, beautiful & has everything you need. Loved the refilled minibar--it was filled daily with bottles of red stripe, liquor & mixers. There are some beach hustlers-but if you politely say no thanks, they are very nice. Since it's the end of the rain season it was kinda buggy. Our bug spray didn't seem to work as we got very bit up. But, we had an amazing time!!! Hope to be back for another week soon!
“Exceelent service...WORTH EVERY DIME!!!”
i had a great time at this location a nd the staff was very helpful and friendly esp Dane that works at the front desk! the food at the different restaurants was great. the rooms are very comfy...i look forward to going back next year!
“If you don't expect luxury, you will not be disappointed. Overall..Ok.”
Overall I had a good experience at the Riu Palace Tropical Bay. The positives: beautiful beach, attentive staff, great pool area, good cocktails. The negatives: All rooms are smoking. I had to change rooms 2 times to try and get a room that did not smell of smoke. I would in the future only stay at a hotel that offers non-smoking rooms. The hotel said they would spray and change the drapes...but every room still reeked of smoke. Gross. The rooms are not luxurious by any means. Out-dated decor, hard beds...truly 3 star. The food was not very good. It is all inclusive which means there are buffets with a bunch of mediocre choices. The a la carte restuarants were not very good also. How do you serve imitation crab? The seafood were not fresh. Otherwise I had a nice time because the people were so friendly and the weather was awesome.
“The Better Negril Riu”
Very nice and a pleasure to stay. Beach was awesome and grounds were great.
“It was OK”
It took me a day to get used to the manner in which the hotel operates. They advertise as having several restaurants; however, they do not keep all of them open every day. Even if it is open, you have to make a reservation first. Finally, you can't just call or stop by at any time to make a reservation. You make reservations at a certain desk, which is only available every other day at 8am. This did not work out well for us. We arrived on Tuesday, which happened to be the day we could make reservations, however, we did not arrive until 3pm. Since the reservation desk was already closed, we had to wait until Thursday to just make reservations. This means, we could not eat at any restaurant the first two days of our trip. This buffet was our only option. Then we had to wake up to be in line at 8am. Waking up early is not something I planned to do any day of my vacation. We took two excursions, which we were told were only about an hour away. In reality, the trip took 2 hours each way. We took excursions on two days so we wasted much time riding on the bus.
