Great b&b but beware of the steps!
Leo and Lou were really friendly, chatty and accommodating. They clearly go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The steps were a bit of a shock for us on arrival as I'm 6 months pregnant and the steps were a bit much with no railing, however, like the other reviews, the view was incredible. When we mentioned to Leo about the steps he did offer to pick me up after our day trips which was very nice of him but I didn't want to make a fuss! The room was really clean but we lacked privacy in the room we had as it opened out onto the terrace meaning the bathroom shutters remained closed for the duration of our stay making it very dark, and people sat on the bench directly outside of our bedroom window to get wifi and the view. There was no tea and coffee making facilities in our room, no full length mirror and no shelf in the shower for shampoo etc which is a little more difficult with a bump!! If we were to return, we would opt for different room despite the fact it probably has the best view! :-) My husband found the cats a bit much! This place is great if you want a quiet get away. It's seems like it attracts like-minded people, everyone was very friendly and polite. There was no TV in the room but plenty of books to read. We would recommend a drive to Sestre Levante for both evening and day. It's a 30 minute drive but well worth it. We also had a lovely lunch at Vera Napoli in Chiavari - definitely a must!

Thank you very much for your helpful review. We are really glad you enjoyed your stay with us ...I do agree that that bench attracts people and we are sorry you felt your privacy was compromised. Feedback taken on board and we will be changing the light bulb for a a brighter one .....& throwing the cats down the valley ( JOKE!!) Leo is upset you didn't want to make a fuss about the steps ...he would have been more than happy to ferry you up the lane and does so regularly for the ' physically challenged' :) . Wishing you well with the rest of your pregnancy & hope to be able to welcome you again one day !

Beautiful location, wonderful people!
Leo and Lu will send you directions on how to get there... follow the directions! :) If you follow the gps you may have an unexpected adventure. The gps will get you there but you will go up the mountain side on a single lane road that isn't paved or much wider than your car (Leo and Lu are quite adept at this road). If you are in for a particular adventure, you may follow the gps and do this after a very heavy rain and the hard wash down the road. Whew! Anyhow, if you just follow Leo and Lu's directions instead of the gps you will have a lovely drive up the mountain side with very road friendly locals. Our experience was fantastic! Our hosts, Leo and Lu are wonderful, warm, friendly people with a great sense of humor. We also got to meet and chat with a family from Belgium and a friendly couple (congratulations on your journey to parenthood :) ) from Germany. The view of the valley and surrounding mountains is beautiful. The air is fresh and clean. The room we were in was immaculately clean, spacious by European standards, and did I mention the lovely view. We had many exciting and busy major cities on our trip and starting our morning with the delicious breakfasts (a fantastic dinner is often offered for a reasonable cost as well), the surrounding vineyards, and fireflies in the evenings was a very enjoyable break. Lu can tell you about things to see and do in the area as well as how to get there and the best places to park.

High Adventure
Did not realize how scary the drive would be or how tough the climb up the steps would be, but once we arrived at the top, the view was amazing. The house is perched atop a hill surrounded by small farms. It's very quiet and peaceful but day trips tend to be difficult since the road up and down is difficult. Breakfast was great as long as you could keep the cats at bay. They steal food right from your plate.

Great place to stay
Lu & Leo were friendly and welcoming and did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable.. Lovely fresh breakfasts and had two evening meals with them which were good too. Great place to 'chill'. Very nice outside area for eating/relaxing.

Room with a view
Castagnola is tucked away and offers visitors complete peace and quiet with views of the mountains around it to savour. There's a classy restaurant at the bottom of the mountain and if want to experience a bit more of the towns, head down to Chiavari and catch a train to Santa Margarita and Portofino. The rooms are comfortable and the pizzas that host Leo makes are amazing. Breakfasts are fresh and it's quite something to eat on the terrace and overlook the valley. Prices are reasonable too.

séjour agréable et conviviale. mais par contre un accès difficile et pour ceux qui on le vertige s'abstenir. Ainsi que les derniers mettre pour accéder au B and B sont difficiles pour les personnes âgées car il faut monté au moins 50 marchés très dure. sinon le détour vaut la peine.

Dette sted er helt unik
Vi var forberedt på køreturen op af bjerget via anmeldelserne ...og det var hele turen værd. Så unik en perle og menneskerne der driver den. Her får gæsterne et værtspar, der driver stedet med sjæl og kærlighed. Aldrig har vi følt os så velkommen. Vi kommer helt sikker tilbage. Fantastiskt boende i Ligurien. Utsikten och personalen är mycket bra. Vägen upp är smal och lite tuff att ta sig igenom men det är absolut värt det. Rummet helt ok och frukost helt ok. Om du meddelar dig kan du få middag på kvällen som var mycket gott. Någon kväll så startades stenugnen och hotellägarna bakade pizza. Mycket trevligt och gott.

Heaven on earth
Ett helt underbart smultronställe med underbart värdpar som drivit stället i 14 år. Ett ställe för lugn och ro och natur. Minus för väldigt många trappsteg upp till hotellet och för mjuka/slitna sängar.

Fantastic place in the mountains. Very friendly hosts, delicious breakfast at terrace with astonishing view, cosy and clean room. Overall great experience. This is a really amazing place. The view is stunning, Lu and Leo are really friendly, the kids loved the pool and the cats. The room was nice. We will for sure come back to Farmhouse Castagnola 64!

site magnifique calme où on a pas l'impression d'être à moins de 15km de la mer. les hôtes qui vous reçoivent sont vraiment très gentil et accueillant et vous servent le matin un bon petit déjeuner pour bien attaquer la journée. Attention ne pas suivre votre GPS sinon vous êtes perdu.

Quiet and relaxing
We had a wonderful time at Farmhouse Castagnola! The road up to the house is indeed a bit scary, especially when you have a cheap and weak rental car (although it is a good thing to have a small car up here), but once you're up the view is stunning. Because of the tricky road it's therefore a good idea to shop for food (if you want for lunch and such) before you get up to the house. Lu and Leo were very nice and accommodating and made us a very nice dinner the night we arrived. The nature around the house is beautiful and vivid, and full of rare butterflies! Down the hill there's a very good restaurant where we ate the second night, it took us about 25 minutes to walk there. The walk home was lit up by fireflies! This place is perfect for a quiet (except for the occasional barking dog) and relaxing vacation, we spent our two nights here reading by the pool and taking walks in the area. Next time we will definitely stay longer and hopefully conquer the road so we can do day trips with the car!

Ubeskrivelig fantastisk plass
Ubeskrivelig opplevelse! Ganske skummelt å kjøre opp til Farmhouse B&B, men vel oppe var det verdt adrenalinet. Enda mer sjarmerende og spektakulært enn det man kan se på hotels.com. Veldig hyggelig betjening og en plass jeg aldri vil glemme!

Nous avons passé dix journées agréables dans cet hôtel original. Situé en retrait de la côte, il s'accroche aux pentes montagneuses et la route pour y accéder est étroite et escarpée. Le couple d'hôteliers est sympathique et leur accueil est très cordial.

Ein einmaliges Erlebnis !
Für unsere Durchreise von Italien nach Frankreich wählten wir Castagnola 64 - und sind restlos begeistert ! Die Strecke zum Farmhaus ist für jeden halbwegs fähigen Autofahrer leicht zu meistern. Belohnt wird man mit einer einzigartigen Location. Die Gastgeber haben sich fantastisch um uns gekümmert, die Atmosphäre kann als familär bezeichnet werden. So waren auch sowohl Abendessen als auch das Frühstück sehr lecker und mit viel Liebe und Verstand zubereitet.

Hôtel très très éloigné de tout. Perdu dans les collines, les deux derniers kms même plus de route : un simple sentier très étroit. calme car en pleine nature si c'est ce que vous rechercher. Si comme nous vous vouliez visiter la Rivièra : beaucoup de route (environ 30mn par autoroute pour aller à Santa Margueritta). Attention nos hôtes parlent à peine français mieux vaut avoir un bon niveau d'anglais ou italien. Attention pas de repas le soir il faut penser à tout prévoir avant votre retour à l'hôtel car une fois arrivé, on a pas envie de reprendre la route le soir!!!! côté piscine: elle n'est pas entretenue d'où une déception des enfants. Pour le même prix on peut trouver beaucoup mieux ailleurs et plus près de la civilisation.

Oh dear ! How awful that you were SO disappointed with our location!!! Our location is shown on every booking site and is even clearer on our own website which we kindly ask guests to read before confirming their arrival. No mention of the rooms or views so I'm assuming these were very much to your liking. Didn't quite understand what you meant about the pool but have had no other negative feedback regarding this. Our location is VERY clear and of course we are in nature, that is the whole attraction for our guests that want peace, quiet and healthy air and to those who bother to research where they choose to stay. Why on earth did you choose us and not an alternative closer to Santa Margerita or some other busy tourist location ? We are very sorry that you didn't choose elsewhere but thank you for taking the time to write a review and hopefully this will hinder other like minded people inorder to save room for the adventurous and nature lovers who frequently remind us how beautiful our home is and what an effort we make to try to make people feel welcome. Our apologies if you felt disappointed with your own choice.

Accueil peu chaleureux, Sourire très forcé de la propriétaire C'est dommage car le lieu est très agréable Du coup, on était soulagé de poursuivre nos vacances ailleurs Le séjour de 4 nuits était trop long, 2 nuits suffisent amplement car le lieu est difficilement accessible et éloigné des principaux sites touristiques du coins

oh dear, we are sorry you felt that way. We are not sure which one of the owners you felt was ' false' as we are a husband and wife team ! I'm pretty sure it must have been purely a personal feeling as we pride ourselves on being professional at all times and usually receice feedback from all our guests to that fact. It's a pity you hadnt researched and read the information fully as our location and accessibility are clearly stated on both hotels.com and our personal website. Most people actually choose us for the peace , quiet and stunning views. You really should have checked out early as we certainly wouldnt have charged you if you felt SO uncomfortable staying with us. As you left an anonomous review it's impossible for us to apologise personally but here we say sorry that your stay was not as you expected.

Wij verbleven er even onderweg naar huis vanuit Toscane. Goeie bereikbaarheid van de kust vanaf hier. Unieke en mooie locatie. Minder goede bereikbaarheid wordt gecompenseerd door goeie service (ophalen valiezen)

Superfint boende i bergen
Vi hade en jättebra vistelse på Farmhouse Castagnola där vi bodde i två nätter. Vi uppskattade lugnet, utsikten och den hemtrevliga känslan. För att komma till boendet behövde man åka en smal bergsväg. Första gången vi körde upp var det väldigt läskigt men när man åkt ett par gånger vande man sig. Men det var absolut värt det med tanke på utsikten. Ett boende nära naturen, inget för de som är alltför bekväma eller som vill bo i stadsmiljö. Men uppskattar man den här typen av boende, vilket vi gjorde så är det helt perfekt.Det enda man hör på morgonen när man vaknar är fågelsång. Leo och Lu är väldigt trevliga och gjorde allt de kunde för att vi skulle ha en perfekt semester. Vi passade på att besöka cinque terre när vi bodde här. Då tog vi bilen Chiavari där vi åkte tåg till Riomaggiore. Därifrån vandrade och gick mellan de andra byarna för att sedan ta tåget tillbaks till Chiavari. Väldigt smidigt. Bästa betyg för det här boendet.

Superbe vue calme très accueillant
Propriétaire très sympa parlant français. Un peu isolé pour les différentes visites mais le paysage vaut le coup.

Un nid d'aigle inoubliable
Situé sur les hauteurs de la riviera ligure du levant, l'environnement naturel de ce gîte est tout à fait exceptionnel. La maison se trouve en-effet accrochée à flanc de montagne, à 25 minutes de l'embranchement d'autoroute de Lavagna (petit déjeuner en terrasse avec vue sur les montagnes, dans le chant des grillons et les arômes menthe sauvage). Idéal pour des vacances au calme, dans une chambre aux couleurs pimpantes. Très bon contact avec les propriétaires du gîte.

En perle i bjergene
Fantastisk, sjælden beliggenhed nær en bjergtop med skøn udsigt og natur. Spændende dyreliv i omgivelserne. En Fortræffelig service fra de venlige indehavere. Bemærk at den prisbelønnede restaurant La Brinca med mulighed for enestående italienske gourmet-oplevelser kun ligger 3 km fra dette sted.

Intet mindre end fantastisk dejligt. Det kan anbefales, hvis man er til ferie hvor der bare er RO og STORE oplevelser. I nærheden ligger en fabelagtig restaurant; La Brinca, som SKAL besøges, når man er der. Værterne Lu og Leo er begge engelsktalende - og MEGET gæstfrie. Morgenmaden er virkelig skøn, og man kan tilkøbe hjemmelavet aftensmad., hvis man ikke orker at køre ned af bjerget og finde en restaurant. Eneste minus er køreturen dertil, som ikke er for folk med højreskræk. Det er små krogede veje, hvor der KUN er plads til een bil - ALT andet er absolut anbefalelsesværdigt. Alene udsigten fra soveværelset er hele den krogede køretur værd.

Cozy and beautiful location
We stayed at Farmhouse B&B one night on our way from Milan to Tuscany. The place is located on top of a mountain with a wonderful view. The place is a bit tricky to find but we were given good directions. Lu and Leo are really nice people and takes good care of their visitors. We would strongly recommend Farmhouse B&B to anyone visiting the area.
