    “British Colonial Hilton”

The staff at the Hilton was extremely friendly. The restaurant, Aqua, and the lounge, Bullion, were amazing. The beach was clean and nice to relax. One of teh biggest detractors to the hotel was that it really needed some maintenance. It was mising all kinds of clay shingles, the facia had been torn up by the wind , the lobby roof leaked, etc... The photos on teh website were from when it was in better shape. We only had one major issue. We had ants in the room. As soon as you set a plate down, they were on it. My fianl gripe was that the room was a little small for the price.

    “Very nice hotel”

The hotel is wonderful, the private beach it has is a little small but very well maintained, we loved going out there and sunning on the lounge chairs or reading under the umbrellas. Also, if the ocean isn't your thing, they also have a pool right next to the beach for less sandy water fun. The area around the hotel is nice; there are a lot of restaurants, notably Senor Frog's, an nice laid-back restaurant to get food and drinks. Also, if you don't mind a 10~156 minute walk, it's very close the the fish fry, a chain of restaurants including the famous Twin Brothers seafood & steak house and their world famous daiquiris. it's also basically right next to the straw market, for all your shopping needs, and about a five minute walk from the ferry terminal, which can take you anywhere else you want to go, like Paradise Island. The only thing that went slightly off was one day the maid caught us in our room while she was going to clean; she claimed she would come back after she did a couple more rooms on the floor, but when we returned several hours later we found it was never done, and remained messy for the day. Every other day, though, the room was impeccably cleaned. The concierge was always willing and able to give us very clear directions to the fish fry, ferry terminal, and anywhere else we wanted to go, and all the staff was polite and friendly. Would definitely stay there again if we returned.

    “Nice hotel, but....”

The hotel, landscape and overall service was nice. Check-in and check-out was a breeze. I have visited both Nassau and Freeport in the past, but enjoyed Freeport much better. The people are more friendly and sincere. Customs entering Nassau was a nightmare. Not enough customs officers and a very slow attitude. On this trip, I traveled with my daughter and 4-year old grandson. We booked a king bed, however upon arrival, we were provided a room with what appeared to be a queen size bed. I immediately brought it to the attention of the hotel manager and was told that the bed I had was Hilton's version of a king bed. So, for five nights we slept crunched in this bed. On the day of our departure, I happen to past a room that was being cleaned, and noticed what appeared a "real" king bed. I inquired with the maid and was told that yes, that was a king bed, but the bed in my room was not. I brought this to the attention of the manager upon check out and was told that according to their records, my room contained a king bed -- and perhaps housekeeping had switched beds without informing management. Now, this would require removing the headboard from the wall and transfering both the bed and headboard to another room. How ridiculous!!. But at this point we were leaving and there was nothing that could be done. This was not the only instance in which we were given bogus information. Needless to say, my next trip to the Bahamas will be to Freeport, not Nassau.

    “Great Bahamas Hotel”

We were very pleased with the hotel. It was clean and comfortable. The room was very nice for the price. We got a good package deal that included a very nice breakfast buffet. This saved us money. The hotel was very centrally located, within walking distance of the downtown shops and restaurants. We had a great time at Senor Frogs next door. We saved money by eating outside of the hotel. It was a fifteen miinute ferry ride to the Atlantis for $12 roundtrip per person. The Atlantis is amazing but very, very expensive with lots of people and lots of kids. We had more serenity at the Hilton. Overall, it was a great vacation. I would stay there again.

    Area recommendations
This was a good neighborhood by the Hilton as everything was close by. Staying at the Atlantis would have cost more to take a ferry or taxi back and forth. It felt safe at night.

    “wonderful time”

My husband, daughter and I had a wonderful time staying in this hotel. There is a mixture of business people and vacationers. We had the Executive package which gave us access to the Executive lounge which was a fantastic value. They serve a substantial continental breakfast (you can upgrade to the full breakfast in the dining room if you prefer for a small fee) high tea in the afternoon ,and then in the evening have complimentary cocktails with high quality hordeouvres. The lounge overlooks the water and you can see Atlantis on Paradise Island and the cruise ships. The staff in the lounge and the front desk were wonderful!. The beach is small, but very clean and the water was clear and clean. The grounds are nice and there is a nice pool as well. If you like long walks on the beach it is just a short walk to the Water Taxi station that will take you over to Paradise Island to Cabbage Beach. You can book all your excursions at the concierge desk and the tour operators will pick you up and drop you off.at the hotel. If I had a negative I would say that the room could have been a bit more updated, but it was very clean and comfortable. Had a great experience and would definately stay there again.

    Area recommendations
Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island is nice. It is a bit crowded near the entrance, but if you just walk further down the beach away from the crowd you can find a nice quiet spot.
    Family-friendly activities
Had a wonderful time with Stuart Cove's 1/2 day snorkeling trip. They take you to two different reefs to snorkel. Even better was the Flying Cloud all day sail/snorkel trip to Rose Island. You sail on a catamaran and snorkel a reef close to Rose Island, then you anchor and are served a really good barbeque lunch with rum punch. You are free to take your lunch on the beach, or have it on the boat. That was fun. They also have 1/2 day sail/snorkel trips with no lunch.

    “Lovely place”

The hotel was very nice, the staff are extremely pleasant and helpful, everyone has a welcoming smile and 'have a great day' attitude. Food service was a little slow. Would definitely opt for 'breakfast included' in your hotel room price, like we did, as the price for the breakfast buffet was a bit steep. The beach is small but adequate, the pool is nice. The cruise ships coming in and out (mostly in the dead of night or early morning) are more a fascination than a nuisance. The first day they did run out of towels for the pool and beach, and despite assurances that new ones were coming, they did not. The kitchen was closed for renovation(?) the last night, when we wanted to eat in, and a buffet was provided, but was not very appealing. Easy to get taxis to and from everywhere, taxi rank right inside hotel driveway.

    “Great Hotel”

The staff at the Hilton British Colonial were very helpful and friendly. Everyone from the concierge to the maids always greeted me with a smile. The room was overall clean and comfortable. Some of the light fixtures were not working and the drains were full of gunk. The hotel has a great location in the downtown area. The bus which is a great way to travel was right in front of the hotel. Overall the Hilton British Colonial was a great place to stay and I would definitely stay there again.

    Area recommendations
The downtown area, where the Hilton British Colonial is situated is great location because you are right in the heart of Nassau. There is a great variety of shops and restaurants in the area. For the economical traveler, the hotel is a short walk from Arawak Cay in which you can find affordable and delicious meals in restaurants such a Goldie's House of Conch.
    Getting around
The best way to get around Nassau, Bahamas is the public bus system. You can wave them down and a single ride will cost you $1.25. For a little extra you can ask the bus driver to take you to out of the way places. You can even ask them to take you to the airport for a little bit extra.

“Had a wonderful time, already looking to go back!”

This hotel is in a great location, close to the Straw market, the fish fry and all the shops - Everything is in walking distance and only a short $11 cabride over to Atlantis - It was fantastic to sit on the private beach and watch the Cruise Ships turn around at the port. Buffet Breakfast was nice, too. Only issues was that the hotel would really benefit from some kind of evening dinner buffet as not much choice for an evening meak besides Hard Rock Cafe or fast food, Free internet would also have been a plus. Room (181) was opposite the Gym - Could get noisy at time (people leaving the gym and standing outside at room at 6am was not my idea fo a wakeup call) but it was a large room, very clean, good choice of tv channels etc. Definately would recommend and use this hotel as a base when visitng Nassau again - we're planning another trip because we liked it so much..

    Area recommendations
Paradise Island, Atlantis and Cable Beach are a must! Take the $3 ferry fromn the port over to Atlantis rather than the cab ride one day - although its extremely cramped and more of a small fishing boat than a ferry the narration from the locals is great!!
    Getting around
Ferry to and from Atlantis - $3 per way / per person Cab to Atlantis - $11 plus 41 for the toll bridge

    “Nice Place in Nassau”

The British Colonial Hilton, recently renovated, is a good choice when in Nassau, Bahamas, especially if you want easy access to the city and shopping and want to avoid some of the pricier and very touristy all-inclusive resorts like Atlantis. The hotel still maintains some of its colonial-era charm, even if Hilton has transformed it in some ways into a rather typical business hotel. The rooms are a touch small, but otherwise very comfortable and well-appointed. The hotel has a first-rate concierge service that will even arrange day trips (scuba/snorkeling, etc.) for you.
