“Romantic Hilltop Getaway”
My husband reserved this as a special romantic getaway. Other than getting lost on the way to the hotel, it was the most wonderful weekend. The staff were beyond friendly, giving us directions and even recommending places. We stayed n the 2nd floor and had awesome views although next time I would like to stay on the 6th or 7th floor. The rooms are smaller but the history is immense. Some rooms even have original frescos. WIll be going back for sure!!!!
“San Fransesco”
Excellent hotel, lovely staff. Brilliant view over Nalples. Only downside it is at the top of a very steep hill sp be prepared for walking or taxis.
“So glad I did not cancel!”
After reading other reviews about this hotel, i nearly cancelled and re-booked a different hotel, So glad I didn't. This hotel ratings may be incorrect, more like a 3/4 star really and yes it does need a little bit of TLC here and there but it was clean and the view we had of the city was second to none. The pool area is located on the top floor and again has this wonderful view. Breakfast was ample for me but maybe not for a larger appetite. Located at the top of the hill, its quite a walk up but take the underground cable car which runs late for only 1.20 euros and save your legs. I suggest when booking you ask for an upper room to ensure the view and don't expect a 5* modern hotel. Visit this hotel for its character and friendliness not to show off your Gucci bag! My only problem is with Naples itself. Naples is in need of a complete make over and clean, Looks very sorry for itself and is very expensive to eat out. 100 euros for 2 courses with drinks down near the docks was far too expensive for 2!
“Reconverted monastery on the hights of Naples”
This hotel is a missed chance. The building has caracter, some of the rooms are charming and the view is stunning. However condition of the hotel is bad, finishing unexisting, bathrooms dirty, maintenance bad. The attraction of the hotel consists of the view you have, amazing terraces and the small pool. A lot of improvement has to be done in terms of cleaning, finishing and maintenance. With a few accents and a good management this place has a lot to become one of the best interesting hotels of Naples.
“See Naples and die”
The rooms we saw were not well maintained, and the beds not particularly comfortable. Our room had non-functioning safe or television, and the drains were smelly. Having had a recent theft from a hotel room on first night, we asked to be moved to a room with a working safe. As the next room had no television, we selected a third. It was not till the middle of the night that we discovered that the toilet did not flush! These trivia did not spoil our stay. The staff were all very friendly, and we enjoyed dinner and breakfast on the restaurant terrace with its magnificent view, and enjoyed the overall historic atmosphere of the hotel.
“Beautiful hotel with stunning views”
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff were all polite, friendly and helpful and spoke very good English. Breakfast was excellent and the restaurant has stunning views across the whole of Naples and the bay, right across to Vesuvius! Although it was too cold to use the beautiful pool in the rooftop garden, we enjoyed wandering in the garden and enjoying the view. It's well worth going for an explore as the hotel is full of surprises, some of them clearly dating back to its days as a monastery. The hotel was clean and well-kept throughout, and we would definitely use it again if we returned to Naples. Although the hotel was halfway up a very steep hill, there are funicular railway stations within five minutes walk in either direction (along the flat). If you are staying in Naples for a few days, it is well worth picking up an "artecard" from the information centre at Garabaldi station, which allows you to visit lots of museums and attractions (including Pompeii and Herculaneum) and use unlimited public transport for three or seven days, depending which card you buy.
“Stunning views”
The Hotel San Francesco Al Monte was generally very satisfactory. It was atmospheric and the historic parts were very sympathetically absorbed into the fabric of the hotel. The restaurant on the fourth floor had the ultimate view over Naples and Vesuvius and good use has been made of the space – an ambient seating area, pleasing indoor / outdoor restaurant and delightful outdoor eating area. The pool on the 7th Floor was spectacular: - the views, the lovely pool itself and lots of semi private seating. Plants and garden areas on both this and the fourth floor were well kept and attractive. Our room was small but pleasantly decorated although perhaps the chairs and shower were rather shabby. However the air con meant it was beautifully cool and bedding and towels were changed frequently which were all very much appreciated in the extreme heat. We would be very happy to stay again. The staff were particularly helpful and friendly and deserve high praise for it enhanced the happy memories we have of our stay.
“A santuary in a chaotic city”
Arrived early to a warm reception in advance of room being available, not a problem, our bags and valuables were looked after and we were provided with both map and directions to explore the city. Returned later to an excellent room with our bags and coats awaiting us. Hotel restaurent was excellent, panoramic view and good food. Our request for the waiter to select a local wine resulted in good quality at the low cost end of the wine list. We found Naples chaotic but fun, the hotel became our sanctuary, the staff welcoming and charming.
“hotel fine disappointed with conditoin of Naples i e graffiti and street cleanliness”
fine hotel great views of bay of naples only criticism lack of no draw space in our room so lived out of suitcases but despite that would have no problems recommending this hotel
“Quiet Luxury Just Minutes From Downtown”
We chose this hotel based on other traveler reviews, and it was even better than we had hoped. Naples is everything we'd heard: noisy, frenetic, and lots of fun, but by the end of each day we were so happy to retreat to such a lovely hotel - much nicer than the supposed luxury accommodations near the water. Rooms and service were top of the line, especially considering the reasonable rates. Everything was luxurious - the panoramic view of the bay from our window, the enormous breakfast hot and cold buffet, the immaculate rooftop gardens; we felt like we were in a movie the entire time. The late-evening trip on the night we arrived by train made us nervous, especially the short walk from the Montesanto train station to the funiculare; Recommend arriving during daylight hours if possible.
