Hotel Excellent is exactly that. Small and comfortable with 11 rooms Carlos and his staff make it your home. With a delightful restaurant attached overlooking a small lake on the outskirts of the old town this is a great home away from home. The restaurant food is good and thoughtfully priced. The only drawbacks are no air conditioning. Most of the time due to the climate this is not an issue. If you are looking for Ritz Carlton luxury this is not the place. If you are looking at staying at a quiet small hotel that treats you as a special guest while visiting their country it is.
A warm and cozy vist from start to finish. Walking distance to everything. Helpful hosts. Comfortable rooms. Yummy Breakfast, even a sprinkling of snow whilst we drank our gluwein at the markets. A lovely medival city to see.

Excellent location in the nicest part of Lubeck old town, no convenient parking close by though. Rooms are ok and were clean, overall the hotel was a bit dated. And paranoid about guests using their WIFI which required registration by passport and was limited to one device for the room.

Hotel room was pleasant, there was coffee and tea for guests. Hotel parking is disapointing - covered, next to lift, but really small (for 12-14 cars maybe). Near hotel was another parking, but it was hard to find a place to park and had to pay extra for this. Bathroom was disapointing - in our room the ceiling was dirty and the part of a bathtub was dirty too (looked like mold to me). I think it shouldnt happend in a hotel like this, especially when traveling with small kids. Was very uncomfortable bathing kids in such bathroom.
I booked my stay at this hotel for a weeks business trip to Luebeck due to my usual hotel not being available in the height of summer season.
For my business I needed internet connection in my room and was led to believe by Expedia's description that this would be available in room but would incur on surcharge on use - I was happy to book of this basis. However on arrival at the hotel I enquired about the internet set-up procedure and was told that this was not available in my room and that they could not change me to another room with internet. The reason for the lack of internet coverage in some rooms is that the hotel has an "extension of rooms" sited in a separate building some 100 metres up the road from the main building. I complained and the hotel advised me that they had received other complaints of services not being available due to misleading descriptions on booking websites. I stayed in the hotel for 2 days until I could find an alternative.
After the disappointment at check-in and the small trek to the separate building (past boat showroad, pizza shop) I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and cleanliness of the room, albeit a little on the small size.
When booking I would recommend that you check that your room will be in the main building - as the internet is only available there, breakfast is served there, the hotel reception is only manned in the main building and the rooms do not have phones so it is a short trek to ask about anything.
