“Cheap hotel in Muscat”

This hotel is one of the least expensive hotel in Muscat. The building is old now and dark inside. Luxury should not be expected. The room is cleaned, but I felt uncomfortable walking without shoes. Also, the cover of the bed was old and didn't look clean. Air conditioner worked well but was old and noisy. The sheets and the pillow cover were clean, but due to the old bed, I didn't feel good and couldn't sleep well. Onsite parking is available, but it is full in the evening. I guess it is due to the local customers visiting the restaurant at the hotel, as there were few cars in the early morning. If the parking is full, cars can be parked on the street but it is also difficult to find. The elevator at this hotel is the old style (the door have to be opened manually). The key of the room is actually a "key" and must be returned to the front desk when going out. Hair dryers are available upon request only. Wifi is available at charge. The hotel is located on the right side in the direction towards Mutrah area. It is difficult to make a u-turn on the street, so it is important to drive slowly and find the hotel. But the location of the hotel is convenient to access the business district, Ruwi and Mutrah. I stayed at this hotel because I just needed a place to take shower and take a short "nap" after coming back from a tour to a desert and before going to the airport very early in the morning.

Area recommendations
If travelling with a car, larger hotels located between downtown and the Airport are recommended.

“Clean, comfortable budget hotel-motel”

Check in service was fine, as was check out. No surprises. Location is tricky to find, though, on a divided road that goes on and on before you can turn around. The hotel and room are older, and the decor is very dated by Western standards, however, everything worked in the room. The AC was easily adjustable. Our King bed was 2 twins together, and that worked fine. Nice modern clean comfortable, floors and bath, all clean. They have a loud disco, it seemed, downstairs. I asked about noise when I booked, and they siad it was not a problem....Well, with the AC on, and on the 4th floor it was quiet enough, but, I am sure I would NOT stay on any lower floors at this hotel. The free buffet that was supposed to come with my reservation was not a buffet at all. They brought a plate with eggs cooked to order and hot dogs and toast, and coffee. The Indian server's English was very limited--so if you don't like the breakfast--well try somewhere else. Like the Sultan Center Buffet upstairs. It is very reasonable with a large selection. 10-15 minutes by taxi. Just a hint--get your taxi at the other side of the road, to save time. Taxi's are cheap in Oman, but ALWAYS AGREE ON A PRICE FIRST. No meters, and they love the tourists wallets. Don't ever accept "don't worry about it" from a taxi driver in Oman. 5 to 10 minutes should never be more than 1 Rial. on the highway, less than 1 Rial takes you 100km. I had a good sleep here, a nice hot shower, and I accept this hotel for a 2 or 3 star.

Area recommendations
Older part of Muscat with some character. Access to the waterfront and historical buildings--long walk, or short taxi ride.

“Clean hotel but a long walk to the souq”

The hotel was ok...as a world traveller it was neither excellent nor poor - clean and good. The staff were helpful and pleasant, the indian inspired breakfast buffet was good, some parking and there was a small bar for room service. On the other hand, the hotel was a bit far from the center of Muttrah (20 min walk in the heat), the room AC was struggling and musty on our 3rd day with 40c+ weather (its still not yet hot), and the shower water pressure was weak...good for dip and pour bathing with the provided bucket. The centre of action is on the Corniche waterfront among 5 other hotels...

Area recommendations
Corniche along the waterfront...
Getting there
I had wanted to take the bus from Abu Dhabi to Muttrah but there are no longer any direct easy rides...after a lot of calling around and researching you either have to bus to Dubai (switch to an Oman bus) or Al Ain (cross the border and then take an Oman bus). We booked the room with the plane trip...flying was easier but less of an adventure. It worked out well given the heat in Oman was about 15 degrees warmer (humidity and heat) than Abu Dhabi felt like.
Shopping
The souq, Corniche, the local architecture and local dress where all refreshing after a months in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Muttrah had much more sense of place than most towns in the AD UAE. I would go back to Muttrah and stay on the Corniche. We also went to Seeb to see the beach and the souq (Lonely Planet)...relaxing laid back but Muttrah is nicer.

“Good budget hotel”

Great hotel. Staff was extremely helpful. Good food. I've stayed at another hotel in Ruwi that was 3 times the price and not as good.

“Not so great, but it's a fair price for what you get”

Quite an old hotel, they claim it's the oldest in town. Very basic services, nothing fancy, but cheap enough to make it a fair deal for the money we paid.

“Good hotel”

The hotel is very clean, well located and service is excellent. And in relation to other hotels in the city, it is relatively cheap. The restaurant is also good and reasonably priced. On the downside, the hotel is a bit old.

Traveller's tip
I would recommend it to young couples.
