“One Step up from a Hostel”

Room very basic - no down comforter or pillow and carpet old and stained. Location was great, but this is more like sleeping in a dorm room. There was a school group on our floor that was very noisy late at night. You can hear everything going on outside your door. We were advised to park in a garage a block away which we did only to find out on Sunday when we were leaving that the garage was closed on Sundays. The management should have notified us of this if they were referring this garage. Breakfast was good and hearty but the dining room can get crowded and you may have to wait to get a table. I would recommend this hotel to young people on a tight budget who want to stay in a safe, convenient area. We ended up leaving a night early because it was really just one step up from a hostel.

“great place”

The location to everything in the downtown area is great. The staff is always helpful. The rooms are a good size for a holiday stay. After all, are you really spending that much time in your room while in Munich? Very good & filling Breakfast. 3 thumbs way up; 10 gold stars; crowd going wild. Great place, great value. I've stayed there 4 times at least in the last 3 years.

“Solid 3 stars, good value for the money and convenient”

I stayed at this hotel for two nights only but if I ever go back to Munich I would definitely consider staying there again. Great value for the money - no flashy perks, very basic but clean, convenient (right smack downtown, 5 min walk to Marienplatz), very nice staff, breakfast buffet, free internet in the lobby. The hotel clerk recommended getting a room facing the courtyard and it was a good advice as the street can get noisy. The view from the room was superb - the old city with its churches, cathedrals etc. I defnitely recommend this hotel.

“Herzog-Wilhelm”

It is conveniently located and the price is perfect. The breakfast was amazingly impressive from display to quality. The room was very clean including the bathroom. The only awkward thing was having to exit the hotel and go around the corner, after check-in, to another building to access our room. It seemed more like an apartment building where you let yourself in, but the free breakfast is set up there too in a very nice dining room. Our room was for three people and was a very good size, even by American standards. Marienplatz is a 15 minute walk away but there are other squares to visit in between. When I travel to Munich again, I'll most definitely stay at the Herzog-Wilhelm Hotel again.

“Location!”

Our room was very small - the double bed was up against a wall so one of us had to climb over the other to get to the loo. The stand-in shower was OK if a little on the primitive side. Otherwise this was a really good place to stay - a good buffet breakfast with the usual choices and only ten minutes walk from the main station and from Marienplatz. We would stay here again.

Area recommendations
Marienplatz is the centre and buzzing with people and churches and shops. The food market was really interesting with loads of stalls. Don't miss the Hofbrauhaus - great fun, with superb beer, decent food and a brass band for added atmosphere. The Residenz was good if you like old palaces - how the other half lived.

“Would recommend and wil go back!”

After the initial disappointment with small rooms was sorted (next morning) we cannot do anything but praise this hotel. Our second rooms were great - indeed fantastic. Breakfast choice was very extensive with lovely, helpful staff. Extra pillows were supplied cheerfully and we were even allowed to keep one of the rooms until our departure time. Reception staff were excellent advising on attractions, travel and eating places - they were brilliant. For visitors who want a very reasonably priced hotel, with super staff and a great location this comes highly recommended from us.

Getting around
Ask about the travel tickets which allow for a group of up to 5 to travel very economically. Excellent tram, bus, train and underground systems and easy!

“Perfectly Adaquate”

We had a nice stay. No frills but clean and completely adaquate. Breakfast was good. Location was good to the trainstation and Marienplatz. We had some trouble at checkout because of a language barrier. We prepaid through expedia but we had to repay at checkout. Then later, hopefully, we got the second payment refunded.

Area recommendations
Good location, easy walk to Marienplatz and trainstation.

“Would recommend and use again”

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to family and friends. It was basic ( you get what you pay for) but clean, tidy, warm, free use of the internet, good buffet breakfast selection which was constantly replenished and had friendly staff always willing to help. The hotel is ideally located for the main square and the main train station, both within a 10 minute stroll. Its is also a few minutes walk from the local U and S bahn stop.

“Great hotel”

This hotel is near-enough perfect. The outside is a bit dull and concrete looking and the rooms aren't huge, but everything else makes up for it. The location is very central, corridors, room and bathroom were bright and clean, and the breakfast was super. Pleasant helpful staff too.

Area recommendations
We went to see the Christmas markets which were great and located in various parts of the city. It's definitely worth staying within the city centre rather than the other side of the ringstrasse.
Traveller's tip
Get the Lufthansa bus from the airport to the central station. It's very easy.
