Pretentious and soulless

Posted 25-Nov-2014
Pros: Nothing really. Will never stay there.
Cons: Lots. Management to apply consistent policy for all room types, make senior staff more engaging and responsive, make reception, pool area more Indian!
Location: Nariman point is a good place for walking, shopping, street food. Trishna is a great seafood restaurant.
Originally we were booked to stay at the Oberai but after watching the BBC programme, we decided to change for Taj. Big mistake. When we initially checked in, we got shoddy smoking room that reeked of smoke. This was changed after some complaints. The other room was slightly better, but not suitable for a 5 star flagship hotel: the bathroom tiles and general appearance was not what I like to say as premium. The place has a number of no go areas, "tea rooms" reserved for those who stay at the upper class part. I felt really conscious of where to go and where no to. The pool area is mediocre, but the service is dreadful. When you complaint they acknowledge the problem but carry on as if nothing has happened to fix. Finally the gym is tiny.

Very Nice Hotel, But...

Posted 14-Nov-2014
Pros: Great location, cleanliness, comfort
Cons: Include internet service in the price
Location: Gateway of India, can see sunrise and about 1 mile away (walking distance) see the sunset. shopping, restaurants...
I had a great experience staying in this hotel. Well laid out, friendly staff (probably at a cost), great food, clean comfortable, great location (across from Gateway of India). But internet connection is ₹600/day, transfer to the airport quote I got was ₹3,500 (Meru Cabs does the job for ₹500 including toll). I would recommend this hotel, but be prepared for the high priced nickle-and-diming.

A perfect hotel! The facility is beautiful, the food is truly delicious (and not just tourist tastes), the location is fabulous, and the staff--the staff is the Best you will ever encounter. Ask any question, make any request, and they will make it work for you. And they are so very sweet and welcoming. If you can possibly afford it, just stay there! Do not stay anywhere else. Their sterling reputation is more than earned. Staying at the Taj is one of the great experiences in life.

the best hotel we have stayed

Posted 12-Oct-2014
Pros: They treat the guests really well. If you need something they respond promptly and. Always with a smile
Location: The location, South mumbai is perfect for shopping both for branded goods from Colaba and for ethnic goods. If u r prepared to walk Crawford Market
We booked for a week, it was partly business and partly pleasure. We have stayed in other five stars hotels in Mumbai, we found the Taj way ahead of the others. Everything from checking in, breakfast, room service, politeness of staff was excellent. In particular I was impressed by the breakfast services provided by Melwyn and his team. They were aware of our choices and made perfect masala tea for us.
