Dont believe the hype

Posted 23-Dec-2014
Pros: Everything not mentioned above was as expected: beautiful communal areas, stunning lobby, great breakfast (but crowded), great service downstairs.
Cons: Rooms need a refurbish
We have just completed a whirlwind tour of 4 places in India, staying in a 5 star hotel in each of Cochin, Delhi, Jaipur and Mumbai. All hotels were similarly grand in name, reputation, guest ratings and price. Sadly, this hotel was the worst of the tour. It was like many in New York, a stunning lobby and poor rooms. All other Indian hotels so far have had nicer rooms. 1. Shower hot and cold. I found myself having to step out of the water every few seconds. Very annoying. The first hotel this happened in. Also the lowest flow rate of any shower so far. 2. Free Wifi con. Yes there is free wifi but it works by blocking many websites in order to force you into their premium package. Websites like bbc news! We also found it dropping out frequently. Two of us at breakfast found ourselves losing connection for 2 minutes at a time, both at the same time, like their link had gone down. Finally annoyed by this I upgraded to premium where the problem persisted and the speed was no faster! 3. Grim dirty tired old Carpet in the room 4. No marble in the bathroom. All the others did, and I would expect this from five star. 5. No socket by bed, blocked by the bed itself. 6. Smelly pillows. Damp mildew smell from all four. 7. Smallest room so far. Not a problem in itself, it's an old building. 8. View is caged. There is a wire bird net over the balcony. You cannot get out of the door onto the balcony. Ruins the sea view. Feel caged inside. Clearly it's Selling on its brand alone.

Taj is not just an hotel, but a symbol of western presence in Mumbai. Be prepared on its history to better appreciate it

Truly a palace

Pros: Everything. Gourmet restaurants, lovely facilities. Everything was perfect.
Location: Right at the Gateway to India, where one can get boats, tours, etc.
and we were treated like royalty. Superb facilities and staff. A 5 plus. Really an oasis in Mumbai.

Amazing way to celebrate the end of a trip!

Posted 12-Dec-2014
We bought our parents 2 x nights at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai as a gift for them to celebrate their 30th wedding Anniversary. I asked the staff if they would be so kind as to try and make it an extra-special stay for them both and they did just that and more. My parents had nothing but amazing feedback and I was a little jealous at their experience. Thank you to the staff at the Taj Mahal for making this such a special experience for them! We truly appreciate it :>

Taj Palace Hotel

Posted 08-Dec-2014
Pros: Location Service
Cons: For ther new tower rooms - they are quite small for the price - even when the price was already heavily discounted
The location is both supremely convenient and spectacular. Service has to be the best in India. The new Tower Rooms are quite small. Surprisingly drinks are very competatively priced compared to similar venues, but food and other services - although absolutely excellent - are all very highly priced.

Great piece of history and art.

Excellent stay. Beautiful facilities. Gorgeous Art Work by Indian Masters. In trying to serve guests the staff at times were too intrusive and did not catch signs or comments to back off.

Hotel is very nice but hotel staff is not good.

Posted 26-Nov-2014
Pros: Only cleanliness. and location.
Cons: they have to improve their staff.
I had a stay with taj mahal palace and seriously very bad experience in my life. I never refer this hotel to anybody. Hotel staff is giving importance to only rich people who can give money in tip to them. I paid 4 thousand USD for Grand Luxury suite room but i have not feel like i am staying in the suite room. Other hotels are very good better than a taj.

Pretentious and soulless

Posted 25-Nov-2014
Pros: Nothing really. Will never stay there.
Cons: Lots. Management to apply consistent policy for all room types, make senior staff more engaging and responsive, make reception, pool area more Indian!
Location: Nariman point is a good place for walking, shopping, street food. Trishna is a great seafood restaurant.
Originally we were booked to stay at the Oberai but after watching the BBC programme, we decided to change for Taj. Big mistake. When we initially checked in, we got shoddy smoking room that reeked of smoke. This was changed after some complaints. The other room was slightly better, but not suitable for a 5 star flagship hotel: the bathroom tiles and general appearance was not what I like to say as premium. The place has a number of no go areas, "tea rooms" reserved for those who stay at the upper class part. I felt really conscious of where to go and where no to. The pool area is mediocre, but the service is dreadful. When you complaint they acknowledge the problem but carry on as if nothing has happened to fix. Finally the gym is tiny.
