Needs updating
First af all, i want to give them props for service, really good. Kept our luggage after check out, gave us a room to shower also. Otherwise, the breakfast needs to be updated, also the hotel itself. There were a lot of ants in the room. Could need a proper “spring cleaning “. Nicely located.

The hotel with that extra touch...
Fantastic location. Great customer care from the bellboy to front desk to room service to the managers to the bar. There is a very clear ethos in this hotel and this kind of attention and care is what hospitality is all about. The room was perfect and an ode to old Bombay. I cannot recommend this little gem enough.

Friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are older, but charming, comfortable and clean. Renovations were ongoing during our stay which made it slightly unpleasant, but I'm sure it will look great after its done. Very close to Mumbai Gate and in a safe area.

Many thanks Hotel Godwin management and staff
Building renovations created delays using the lifts but that caused us more laughs than stress. Management and staff were extremely obliging assisting with cars, taxis and recommendations. Rm801 was extremely suitable for 3 adults with ample room for everyone. Restaurant food in Terrace Bar was delicious especially for the cheeseballs and buttered chicken. Hotel Godwin is close to the Taj Hotel and Gateway to India. Great street market nearby. Definitely would recommend and offer a vote of thanks to all staff. I will stay again

There were live slugs in the sink drain
The room had a veneer of quality. Closer look revealed deep embedded dirt in every corner, bubble gum stuck to walls and mounds of pigeon droppings on the window sills that have never been cleaned. The highlight was a bathroom drain full of live slugs and a breakfast buffet that was so badly served it looked like someone became sick all over the table. India has many options. Better choose something else.

In the middle of a facelift
I have stayed at the Godwin before and, although not glamorous, it was serviceable. I think that they are going through renovations and an upgrade at the moment, but that meant that a lot of hotel was substandard in the interim. Breakfast was uninspired and more meager than I remember, and we needed to call twice to get enough towels. Frankly, I think they rates should have been reduced drastically while renovations were underway.

The hotel is situated in a prime position, if a little bit of attention is given to the cleanliness, it could be a very good hotel. They should start with the staff training and appearance, that uniform looks so untidy. Depends which room you get, some rooms are worse than others in how untidy it is, the walls are dirty, the toilets are stained. There are renovated rooms, and there is no maintenance it will soon be like the old rooms. The sad part is, that it is in prime position.

Nice place!! Wonderful breakfast!
Hotel Godwin was really wonderful place to be. If you are in Mumbai for a short time, really recommend this hotel. Close to the gateways and boats to Elephanta Island. Restaurants are everywhere near here. Also the breakfast on terrace was very nice. They have different menu each morning, they are indian style and continentals. Everything was so tasty!!

Nice budget hotel central location of mumbai
One of the best location of mumbai walking distance to gateway of india etc,etc,very clean hotel staff were very nice and very helpful especially the morning shift receptionist name Ramesh super nice guy he helped me to print out something from the computer also after I checked out he knew my shuttle will pick me up after few hours he gave me a room to rest and relax and offer ed me drinks and tea good job Ramesh also the turban guy is very nice and they are very welcoming.But when I arrived for check in on 16th of march after 3pm.there was another 2 middle-aged guys not very welcoming and had mean looks after I asked them what time was the breakfast served he told me the time but I could sense it he gossip ed to his coworker that I am very concerned about eating stayed in so many hotels never seen this attitude .

Good base hotel.
Stayed 5th to 16th December. Used as a base for cricket. It was an adequate hotel. But the staff were very good, very helpful and as for Mr Singh at reception he was excellent.

Be very careful if booking and staying here
I will start with the pros: Good location for local restaurants, sights, transport links. And the manager (owner ?), Mr Singh seems pretty genuine. Cons: I had booked well in advance through Expedia. I receieved confirmation of my booking. However, when I arrived at the hotel, I was informed by the duty manager that I would not be staying there. But instead, next door at the Garden Hotel. They were full ! So they had taken my booking, but could not accomodate me. I was advised that this was because a family who had been staying there had not vacated as planned. Anyway, I went along to the Garden Hotel. And instantly got the feeling that this was not the same standard, even though the manager had told me so. I went back to discuss this. And was told flatly that they had no rooms and I had to stay next door. After discussing with the duty manager at the Garden Hotel, he let it slip that his hotel (although owned by the same people) was in fact a 2 star. And the Godwin was a 3 Star. So, I was getting a lesser standard hotel for what I had paid for. Only after presevering did I get the promise of a transfer the next morning, and to be fair they gave me dinner on the house. The room I did get however, was on the 2nd floor and was shabby. Windows don't close properly, The hotel has a bar and restaurant on the roof. But for 2 or the 4 nights I was there they had booked it out for a private function. No hotel residents allowed. Overall I would give this hotel a wide berth.

The hotel is in a good location. The breakfast is pathetic. Attention needs to be paid to the cleanliness. The rooms walls are dirty. The workers should have clean decent uniforms and they should NOT be allowed to use sandals or there "chappals".

Solid hotel, terrific service, amazing location
Hotel Godwin has an amazing location and provides immense value for the money. The room was spacious and well-apportioned, with a good view of South Mumbai. The daily breakfast buffet was delicious and had good variety. A lot of local Indians and tourists alike were staying here. Service was good and helpful; the manager is charming and funny and took great care of us. He even gave us a tip on how to get to Pune Rooftop bar was popular among locals. Also, the box of bottled water you can buy from room service for Rs 200 is a great deal!

This is my third stay at the Godwin. The staff are all amazing characters and dedicated to their work. Location is right near the busy shopping but the hotel is in a quiet leafy road. Beautiful roof top garden with views for miles. Best curry in the city served at the roof top garden. Love this hotel. The following has nothing to so with the Godwins great service Only downside was I booked through Hotel.com and paid directly to the hotel. Expedia sister company to Hotels.com also booked me at the hotel. After many emails and phone calls Expedia admitted they had messed up but I see Expedia have withdrawn over a thousand dollars from my bank account. Get your computers sorted Expedia/ Hotels.com

Nice enough hotel for a short stay in Mumbai
We've stayed at the Godwin a few times over the years since Shelley's closed and remains that way. It's OK for a moderately priced hotel right in the Colaba area. Colaba is a pain if you are in and out of Mumbai very quickly due to the distance from the airport but it's worth going in if you're in town for a couple of days. Godwin staff don't speak much English apart from the desk guys. It is generally clean and has a nice roof terrace which is great to get away from the hussle and even catch a bit of a breeze up there. Beers are typically and relatively expensive. Food is OK but there is better around. Inclusive breakfast is buffet and functional. There's always some taxis hanging around to make things easy to get about. The Radio Club behind the hotel can be a bit noisy but a room on the Taj Hotel side is generally quieter and has the better view.

Disappointing and overrated
I know it is India and not New York City. But my expectations from the reviews had me "looking forward to staying at the Godwin". And I need to give credit upfront to the unbeatable location. Colaba is the bomb, but for me, the hotel bombed out. The gentlemen (are women allowed to work there?) at the front desk upon arrival set the tone. I am trying to think of an adjective to describe the two of them....."unpleasant". Has anyone reupholstered the chairs and sofas since 1959? Incredibly not spectacular. I would say that you cannot beat the location. BUT, there is at least one nicer hotel on the same street......The Ascot. Disappointed from Miami Beach

Location and the condition of the hotel - clean, renovated room, comfortable bed, roof terrace with nice view across Colaba makes the hotel very good. Naturally not comparable to 5star hotel, but also no 5star price

We stayed here for one night for a stopover. Close to Gateway of India and Colaba Causeway but the room was quite dirty and the walls were very thin. There were lots of students staying who made a lot of noise and took over the restaurant and no staff asked them to be quite after 11pm, despite hearing a customer complain the day before. Staff didn't go out of their way to be friendly or helpful. Not what I expect for £80 per night.

The walls of the room in Hotel (Room202) was very dirty. I requested staff to open safe (which was locked on arrival) which did not happen during my entire 3 day stay even after numerous requests. Location is good, but staff could be more helpful.

been coming here for many years
I always stay at this hotel when i visit Mumbai. The location is excellent and it has a wonderful roof garden to wind down the day with ice cold Kingfisher and a panoramic view of the city. Great place to watch both sunrise and sunset,

Hotel Godwin good location
The hotel is very conveniently situated near to the Gate of India. Rooms were very basic and none of our requests for double beds were met, the sheets were grey and really need replacing. Shower could do with a bit of a makeover as well. Breakfast was ok but I have had better. All in all a bit overpriced!

The Horror!
I checked out as soon as I saw the room at 2 am. The sheets were filthy, the towels had dead flies stuck to them, there was a leak in the bathroom and a huge puddle on the floor, roaches coming out of the drain when the lights were out, food rotting in the stairwell, and a bucket filled with dirty water in the shower. The hands down most disgusting, unacceptable room I have ever seen that ,Alex me wonder if India has a department of health at all.

Thanks Goodness for Mr Singh! We stayed at this Hotel twice during our 5 week trip around India but due to the numerous difficulties we had with our Hotel bookings made and paid for with Expedia over 6 months ago it was only due to Mr Singh's help we acutally had accomodation in Goa. We used the laundry services at the hotel, but some items were returned wet and ruined. The rooms are basic and clean but the hotel is centrally located in Causeway. All the staff were helpful and friendly, and Mr Singh allowed us to leave a bag at the hotel to collect upon our return. We were there for my birthday and due to all of the stress of trying to sort out our hotel bookings and loosing a day of our holiday trying to resolve thses issues, Mr Singh arranged for some flowers to be sent to the room - many thanks Mr Singh for all that you did, it was very much appreciated.

Breakfast really poor, tabels dirty not enough room to eat. Location is perfect. I was in room 107, street side but hardly any noise. Room was big, 2 sohvas, double bed, lots of windows. But... a bit dirty, dust here and there, little dark hair around etc. But overall it was all right. Would stay there again. Lovely roof top restoran-great view.

Hotel Godwin, Gardens Road, Mumbai.
En route to Goa we decided to stay in Mumbai for 3 nights/2 days. We arrived very tired from a long flight at 2.30 a.m. and found the staff friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the buffet breakfast was delicious. It is very central in Colaba and they organised a very good taxi/tour guide for one day who spoke excellent English and knows Mumbai like the back of his hand. We were taken to everything worth seeing, including an interesting visit to the slums. The roof garden is beautiful with 360 degree views of the city, bay and sunsets. We ate there all 3 evenings as the food and the service are very good. After long days sight-seeing it was great to relax. It is an old hotel but has been kept in good condition and we would recommend this Hotel to anyone visiting Mumbai.

Short Stay
We only stayed 2 nights but the room was clean and the bed smelt fresh and the white sheets were white. The bathroom was a little tired but it was all clean and we had plenty of hot water for showers. The room was on the first floor and looked out on the back of other buildings, so could not open the curtains, but we were only in the room at night, so not desperate. There was a good selection of food at the buffet breakfast and the rooftop restaurant looked nice but there was a private party on so we couldn't try it out. The hotel is in a wonderful position - quiet road and yet right in the middle of all the action.

Garden Street Refuge
The backstreets of Colaba are an oasis of calm from the crazy energy that is modern Mumbai. Hotel Godwin, located in aptly named Garden St, is an ideal base from which to explore the city. A quiet, unfussy place with friendly helpfull staff who went out of their way to make our stay a pleasant one. Close to restaurants, shopping & attractions. We will defintely return.
