Lying in the heart of South Africa’s premier wildlife province, Hippo Hollow is a scenic country estate tucked away on the banks of the Sabie River. In a country rich with cultural, history and tradition, Hippo Hollow embraces the heritage of its surroundings and invites guests to experience the magic of Africa!

At Hippo Hollow you can find some of South Africa’s favourite meals on the menu at our fabulous a la carte restaurant. The restaurant itself has a cosy inside seating area with elegant wood finishing for an intimate candlelit meal. Seating outside on the terrace looks out over the Sabie Rabie gently flowing past. Local hippos are regular visitors to the nearby banks of the river and their grazing at night can be an extraordinary sight during your dinner!

The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Breakfast is a lengthy continental buffet as well as a generous assortment of cooked items prepared by our local chefs. Breakfast is served daily from 7am to 10am, a perfect start to a day full of excitement in the African bush.

Lunch and dinner is an a la carte menu that leaves guests spoilt for choice. With a sprinkle of local flavour, the menu’s gourmet cuisine is prepared by the highly regarded chefs at Hippo Hollow who are constantly improvising new ways of presenting local meals. Lunch is served between 10am and 6pm and is an excellent opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal and spot Kingfishers and other beautiful water birds.

Our bar is open from 12pm to 12am and is a perfectly relaxing way to enjoy the sun setting over the river. Our cocktail chef from the Congo is ready to create one of his many special thirst quenchers for you – from traditional cocktails to exotic flavours. You can also take you drink with as you stroll along the banks of the river, or pull up a chair right on the water’s edge.

Dinner is served from 6pm to 10pm and besides the excellent food, Hippo Hollow also has an extensive wine cellar containing some of South Africa’s finest brands. After the sun has set behind the nearby hills, the bush comes alive with the sounds of wildlife and the laughter of nearby hippos. Immerse yourself in the African experience on the restaurant terrace as you enjoy an excellent meal under the night sky.

After enjoying some of the many activities in our area, Hippo Hollow will ensure that your dining experience is as pleasurable as your days of enjoying the local scenery.
