Very convenient location, only 10 minutes walk from the metro in either direction, and less than 20 minutes walk to the Kremlin. Staff were very polite and helpful, spoke English and went out of their way to help. I'm not sure about an American diner in the middle of Moscow, but the food was good and plentiful, with friendly service.
We were cautiously optimistic when booking this hotel considering the adverse comments regarding the wedding events that cause controversy at the hotel. We stayed for two nights in May and there were no wedding events being held. That being said we could not have had a more pleasant stay. The reception and staff - wonderful; the facilities - 18th century elegant and superb; the location - a 5 minute walk through an upscale area to the metro. The buffet breakfast made you feel like a Tzar; crystal, silver and wonderfully decorated. Say here - we were wonderfully pleased.

The location of this hotel is amazing given the price, right on the old Arbat and only a 15 minute walk from Red Square. The room we had was small, but there are communal rooms too - including a kitchen where you can make tea and coffee for free. The decor was really good - loved the little black cats on the walls! - and the hotel has certainly made the most of the small space it has. Finding it can be hard - its round the back through the courtyard - keep going until you think you can't possibly go any more!

"If you're very tight on budget, then it's for you"
Really hard to find. Hotel occupies a couple of floors in residential building with a locked entrance door. No signs that hotel is located there. Even if you find the right building & the entrance you have to spend time, effort & money to make a call to their reception so that they can give you a code to door lock so that you can enter. Considering poor reviews you may wanna first check out the facilities because even on tight budget there is no guarantee that you find the rooms & facilities acceptable & you better do that with your luggage downstairs because it'll be quite a hustle (depending of course on your luggage weight and size) to take it upstairs and downstair (if you don't like it) because there is no elevator. So if you arrive there on taxi there will be additional cost for a taxi waiting for you. So if you sum up all of the above then most likely you'll be better off at another hotel with a bit of higher rate
