Dining

Russky - This traditional restaurant serves Russian food from the time of the Tsars. As well as a buffet breakfast and daily dinner, this venue has a Sunday brunch/dinner which runs all afternoon and evening. Guests dine to the sound of Russian music in a room decorated in midnight and powder blues.

Talavera - The hotel's popular Mediterranean restaurant serves lunch, dinner and snacks - signature dishes include Blackened Tuna with Cilantro. Decorated with cheerful frescoes in yellows and greens, Talavera hosts live Latin guitar every evening.

Sumosan - Spilling out into the lobby, this Japanese restaurant looks like a traditional Japanese garden, complete with Shinto screens, bridges and ponds full of koi carp. Serving lunch and dinner, Sumosan offers a wide range of fresh-made sushi as well as teppanyaki dishes.

Café Amadeus - The hotel's lobby café serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, cakes and drinks from a European/American menu. Burgers and hot sandwiches are a specialty. Guests can use the café's gaming machines or watch the comings and goings in the lobby.

Lobby Bar - Deep, blue leather armchairs and frosted glass tables under cool, dim lights make this an easy place to spend an hour or two sipping vodka martinis. Hot and cold American-style snacks are served in the evenings to groups of businessmen.

“Good basic quality hotel experience”

I have to preface my review with some background. I normally don't stay in higher end, more expensive, or brand-name hotel. I prefer guesthouses, pensions or other mid-range options. The problem is Moscow has a shortage of mid-range hotels, especially in the city center. I was in Moscow 4 days and stayed in 3 different hotels. After the first 2 disasters (one hostel that double booked me out of a private room and a mid-range hotel with a nightclub in the lower floors that pounded music until 10:00 a.m. the next morning), I finally decided on the Radisson, and it solved my hotel problems. Regarding the hotel - the Radisson is everything you expect from a higher-end brand name hotel - good service, large room, clean, expensive mini-bar, etc. The best part of the Radisson is the free wi-fi (wifi internet). It is strong and reliable. I compared many high-end hotels and almost all the others charge a significant price for wifi, so when you add the wifi to the room price - the Radisson was the best deal. The hotels location is not great but there is a subway next door (and I recommend learning how to use the subway - it's tricky but cheap and very efficient) and a bridge that takes you to a good neighborhood. All in all, I can recommend this hotel not so much because this hotel is so wonderful but because the other options in Moscow are not very good.

Area recommendations
Moscow is not the most charming city in Europe (I doubt that many tourists fall in love with the city) so I recommend to get in - see what you want and get out - especially given the inflated costs of hotels and the lack of midrange options. Then - if you want to spend a more leisurely time in Russia - spend it in St. Petersburg. The sights in St. Pete are better (and there are lots), hotels are cheaper and the city is generally more tourist friendly. I spent 4 days in St. Pete & 4 days in Moscow and wish I had done 5 & 3. My other big recommendation for Moscow is to learn the subway. It's tricky but cheap and efficient - very efficient - trains come every 3 or 4 minutes. The challenge is reading the signs and figuring out where you are - but be patient and it will pay off. One last thing - Red Square is pretty at night and there are nice views of the Kremlin from the bridges so check it out at night as well as during the day.

“Old style and not reflecting the cost”

Nice from outside, and all facilities inside. But - it is worn. It does not meet my expectation of a Radisson nor a hotel in that price range at all.

“Slavyanskaya for a hearty Slavic experience with a contemporary flair.”

Staff were very helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and very efficient. The hotel looked clean and well cared for by various staff members, from security guards to porters and concierge, to desk and bar staff. There are lots of exclusive boutiques on site, as well as a number of restaurants with different cuisines, and a bar. Room service ranges from tasty but inexpensive TV Burger (featuring premier quality beef burger, fries and a coke/beer) to full gourmet menu. Good first impression, followed by consistent subsequent impressions and actual service. The hotel is conveniently located right next to Kievskaya Metro station (on the Ring Line), with connections to all Metro lines and within minutes of the heart of the city (Kremlin, Bolshoi, Kitay Gorod) as well as key business (Moscow City) and cultural locations. Kievsky Train station is in the same spot, making train travel to Moscow from the West a door-to-door affair, and enabling travellers to use the trains from many of the train stations located on the Ring Line. There is also a very upscale new shopping and leisure centre on the hotel's doorstep, and there are excellent views of the city and the river front in the evening. Two drawbacks - 1) slightly crowded around the train/metro station (despite the travel benefits these offer); 2) the finish and detailing of the hotel is getting somewhat dated (though no impact on convenience).

“Considering going again”

I stayed at the Radisson and was impressed by the hotel. The staff spoke good english and was courteous and quick. The exchange rate for dollars to rubles from the atm at the front desk was good. The metro is a quick walk and the security was good. Conceirge was quick at making reservations for restaurants in Moscow. The taxi service at the hotel to the airport was decently priced but should leave at a decent time due to traffic. The only thing I would work on is the beds seemed stiff and could have been softer. The stores and restaurants in the hotel were excellent, the Russky restaurant had a good breakfast buffet and worth the cost. The rooms that were in the fron of the hotel and right side had a good view of the Russian White House and Moscow River. The room service was quick whe food was ordered. If you want to get water, drinks, or snacks I recommend going to the small stores next to the train station and buy it there, it is about 3 times cheaper than getting it from the minin bar. Would stay there again.

“A good choice in Moscow”

The room was modern, clean and functional. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows are better than home. Had a great night sleep and felt rested. Also the fitness center and pool, sauna helped feel refreshed. Suggest you eat out since the bars and restaurants are horribly expensive and not good value for money. The Europa Shopping Center is 200 meters away offering good choice of restaurants.

“Great hotel - but Moscow Prices”

The hotel itself was very pleasant, and everything one would expect from a 4*. Yes the Health Club and pool were a little dated - but they had all the equipment you wanted and they were open until 10pm. The location was excellent - next door to Kievskaya train/metro station and the Europe shopping mall (largest in Moscow). However the prices were phenomenal!!! "Cinema prices" is the only way I can describe it - it's not a case of paying £14 for a bowl of pasta in a fine dining restaurant, but paying £14 for a bowl of pasta that you could get at Bella Pasta for £6.50 (or £1.50 in Icelands). It wasn't just the hotel though, ALL of Moscow is like that - to the point where eating at the airport with "ordinary airport prices" seemed reasonable! We would definitely recommend the hotel and Moscow, (and also suggest that to reach there from the airport you take the Airport Express to Paletskaya, do a brief subway walk to the metro (5 mins) and then the circle (brown) line round to Kievskaya instead of taking a taxi - £8 for public transport rather than £40 for a taxi...) but advise everyone to budget their trip very carefully first!

Area recommendations
I would recommend Arbat Street - which is walking distance from the Hotel - and very convenient if you are walking on to Red Square. It is a lovely passage of shops and restaurants and market stalls.
Getting there
You need a Russian Visa - approx £75, however, in order to get this you need to fill in the obligatory forms (available online from the Russian Embassy) but also you need a Visa Letter from the hotel. Hotels in Russia are used to dealing with this and the whole thing can be done by email, but no-one told us that it was the Russian end that needed to deal with it not the UK end. Just contact the hotel and they will sort it out - the Radisson has a specific section on their Hotel website for this 9and it CAN be done by email not fax)...although the person in the Radisson central office (UK end) didn't seem to be aware of any of this himself!!
Must see
If you are going now - there is a great Ice Sculpture display in the park which hosts the Aeronautical Museum.

“Outdated Hotel”

Conveniently located near a metro stop but the gate around the hotel makes you walk in a big circle to get there. Don't ask hotel for a taxi because they are triple the price of flagging one on the street (we flagged a taxi on the street and it cost 500 Rubles compared to what the hotel quoted us at 1500 Ruble). And I have never been to a hotel where the housekeeper left a half a cup of tea sitting and an empty beer can (from the night before) sitting by our bedside. We experienced another bizarre experience when asking for help to book our tickets to the ballet. There was a glob of White Out on the place where the price of the ticket should be located. I was able to scratch it off to see that the ticket cost 800 Rubles though we paid 2000 Rubles. Lastly, the furniture was long outdated, both in the rooms and in the lobby. On the positive side, the receptionists at check-in and check-out were lovely and efficient.
