My wife and I stayed here for two nights and despite our initial difficulty finding the place were really happy with the hotel. Close to the ferry and St Marks Square it is an ideal place to base yourself for a stay in Venice, the rooms were spacious (for Europe) and clean and the staff could not have been more helpfull. My only advice s make sure you have a map before you arrive in Venice or you might find yourself dragging a suitcase through miles of narrow streets, no fault of the hotel it is just a bit of a maze in Venice.
Very courteous desk staff and throughout. Quiet location. Fabulous view on the lake and the French Mountains. Exquisite breakfast spread in a wonderful dining room. Very reasonably priced. Will definitely go there again
I love this hotel - you get a Riviera Card as part of city tax and this gives you free bus/tram rides to town centre, but meanwhile your base is quiet, on the lake and serene. All rooms have balconies and mountain views.
I would recommend, unless you are rich, a trip to Migros grocery store in Montreux market centre where you can get good value and delicious bread, cheeses, biscuits, fruit, Parma ham, etc. I only had one restaurant meal per day, and since this is 30-50 SFr per person it is an advantage to graze sometimes.
Both times I have been to Montreux and stayed at Hotel du Grand lac Excelsior, it is so difficult to leave that the only way to console myself is to book a definite return - the town, the vibes of the people who live there and enjoy it, and the surrounding countryside are just perfect in my eyes. But I did go early June and late September - would not fancy it in super high season crowded hot summer time.
Take advantage of the blending of chill-out and activity - strolls along the stunning and generously long lakeside avenue of flowers are always fun, and check out the thermal spa Les Bains de Lavey. Train trip to Chateau d'Oex and Gstaad is cool. Next time I want to visit Gruyere as well.
Water babies will enjoy the hotel pool too. :)

"Excellent, Convenient, Spacious - 4.5 Star Hotel"
This is an exquisite hotel for those spending time in Montreux. It is very spacious for a European hotel and does give you that touch of elegance. Linked to the 5 Star Royal Plaza hotel, you have access to all its facilities including the pool, gym, spa as well as its multiple bars and restaurants. Definitely check out the Royal Plaza if you plan on staying in this hotel, just to see what you're getting. The only downside to this, is that, Villa Toscane does not have any facilities of its own. It only has rooms. There isn't even a reception - everything (apart from your room) will be located in the Royal Plaza across the street. I didn't mind this, apart from check-out day when it was raining and I had to drag all my luggage across the busy four lane road (there is a traffic light/pedestrian crossing).
Apart from this though, it was a very comfortable stay. The staff at the Royal Plaza were polite, friendly and helpful. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the Main Montreux railway station as well as shopping centre. There is easy access to the lake side for spectacular views of Geneva and the mountains, and the 201 Bus stop will take you to Chateau Chillion and the main Montreux city areas (apart from the station - though there is an up escalator from one of its shops to just opposite the station).
I highly recommend this hotel to all types of travellers, for its comfort and convenience!
Great location, opposite the train station. A short walk to Lake Geneva. I booked a comfort room with extra bed. The room is quite spacious even with the extra bed. Very clean and comfortable. Friendly staff.

We stopped in Montreux to visit friends and found this hotel delightful. It a walkable distance from the train station and reasonably priced. The staff were very helpful and there was a great coffee and confection shop across the street.
