“Way above average.”

Hotel staff extremely helpful and friendly. Location convenient to public transportation, but not many walkable sit-down, non-chain restaurants in the neighborhood.

Area recommendations

I would stay in the Plateau or Mont Royal neighborhoods next time, because there were a lot more family-friendly, local restaurants and activities for young children.

“Great Hotel in the heart of Montreal!”

Beautiful, charming, luxurious boutique hotel. Lovely staff. We had a great, relaxing weekend...you must try the couples massage in the spa!

Old montreal is fantastic. Great restaurants and shopping...feels like you're in Europe. No trouble at all for English speakers as most everyone there is bilingual.

“Great place to stay!”

The service was great and the Concierge (Simon) was a 10! He helped with dinner reservations, places to see and do etc. When we made the reservation we accidently made it with a Queen size bed and we were upgraded to a King at no charge and with no attitude! We will definately go back to the St. James.

“old world charm and service.individual care and very well trained help.”

This hotel surpasses most others in its attention to details and meeting the needs of their guests from check in to check out. It's location is in what is primarily a business area that is becoming more residential. It is very quiet at night and yet many good restaurants are in the vicinity of the hotel. "A class act".

“Unique classy hotel”

The service was outstanding. The hotel was beautiful. the reason why we rated a 3 for condition and maintenance was that our T.V. wasn't working. They fixed it and then it broke again the next morning.

“Terribly overpriced, not woth it.”

So disappointed. Booked on expedia arrived at hotel and was given a closet as a room. Had to pay much more to get a "jr. suite" which was a little smaller than a room at any standard US hotel. Decor was out dated. XO restaurant at the hotel extremely expensive and quality very poor. This hotel has a famous name but way overrated. Not worth it at all. There are other hotels in the area that are much nicer and offer better value. Do your self and your wallet a favor and book elsewhere.

“Excellent hotel in a perfect location”

Everything was perfect about this hotel! The staff was so friendly and helpful. The location was perfect and was in a great neighborhood. Our room was exactly what I expected. The restaurant was gorgeous and was perfect for breakfast. We didn't eat dinner there only because there were so many other cute places that we wanted to try. And, finally the spa was one of the nicest spas that I have experienced. We had the couples changing room with private sauna, steam room and shower. The ambiance of the massage room was so perfect and so relaxing. Overall, the Hotel Le St. James was a perfect place to stay in Montreal!
