“French Secret”
We stayed at the Hotel Dauphin Downtown Montreal early November 2011 for two nights. I will stick to the basics for this review. Parking - though there is parking available at the hotel, there was no room for our vehicle (I believe they only have 6 or 7 spots) so we were directed to park at the Congress Centre underground where you are charged a flat rate per 24 hours with no in and out privileges. We were able to park in front of the hotel to unload our stuff to our room. The parking is on the next block and more convenient than we originally thought. And it's quite nice to walk through the Congress Centre. Definitely not a set back as everything was within walking distance to the hotel. Rooms - Our room was immaculate. A king size bed with updated linens, comfy pillows, a large bar fridge and a large electronic safe that was easy to use; the TV and DVD player were modern. On the nightstand was an iPod dock/alarm clock which was a nice surprise. The bathroom is also updated, a bit small but the shower stall was large and there was enough counter space for all of my feminine necessities. Definitely sufficient for the two of us. The breakfast included boiled eggs, Fairmount sesame and plain bagels, white and brown bread (with ample toasters), yogurt, apples, bananas, cheese, peanut butter, jam, cream cheese, cereal, juice, milk, tea and the awesome espresso machine for specialty hot beverages (lattes and cafe au laits). Will definitely visit again.
“Great choice.”
Like others, I read the reviews & chose this hotel based on their remarks. I booked in the off season, so the price was excellent. This being a relatively new hotel, the first thing I noticed was that my room was immaculate. Everything worked perfectly, therefore I had little opportunity to interact with the staff. The hotel is within walking distance to anything you could want to see downtown (including Chinatown and Old Montreal). The only downside is that the immediate surroundings, at this time, are mostly 'for rent' office buildings. Gazing out my window did not offer much of a view, but that's not what I was here for. Those of you who feel security is an issue, will appreciate that the elevators only operate using your room key card (as well as the room lights & electricity). I couldn't have asked for more .
“first stay at this hotel, very impressed”
Great location, wonderful hotel
“Good hotel nothing spectacular”
Overall was satisfied with the hotel, central location, nicely sized king-size room. The complimentary breakfast consisted mainly of toast, bagels, cereal, coffee, juice, not a deal breaker though.
“Great place in Montreal”
Small very clean hotel near Chinatown and old Montreal.
“Brand New”
We were delighted with the fresh clean look of the hotel. Excellent location. Walk to train station and town. Best hotel out of 10 we used on our trip.
“Will surely use this hotel again”
very nice indeed .... there were 4 of us in the one room ... ample room, comfortable beds, computer with free internet in the room .... very pleased.
“great hotel for great price”
We spent 2 nights and were very satisfied with the hotel, great big and clean rooms, everything new, big fridge and nice bathroom.Hotel is in a great location, right next to the chinatown and few blocks from old Montreal and down town.We walked everywhere, exept for the Botanical Gardens oratorium St.Joseph.Good brekfast-3 types of cereal(Kellogs,Fruit pops), orange and cranberry juice, good coffe , milk, toasts, jogurts, am.cheese, jams, banana, apples-enough for us.We will stay there again!
“Saruisfied with a qualifier”
We like the hotel a lot in most respects. However our comfort was significantly affected by the dingy lrevel of lighting in the room and, particularly the fact that the lights on the two sides of the bed were on a single switch, so if one person wanted to stay up, for example to read, the light on the other side of the bed, right by the person sho wanted to sleep, had to be on. This seemed a remarkably cheap-o touch in what was over-all a nice place for the money.
“Great location, great value!!”
The hotel was within easy walking distance to old Montreal. We had our two young children with us so it was nice to be close to the old area but not right in the middle of all of the fuss. The hotel is very clean and well kept. The breakfast was an added bonus-great coffee!! Will definitely go back!!
