“Excellent hotel”
Beautiful location in downtown Monterrey and wharf.
“Portola Hotel”
It is a bit big, and finding our room took several twists and turns. And though we were in room 348 we were on the ground floor and couldn't leave our door open. The people were overall very nice and helpful. It was about a mile and a half walk to the Aquarium.
“Love this hotel!”
I stay at this hotel every year for a conference. Even thought the Marriot is the "official conference hotel", the Portola Hotel is attached to the conference center and very convenient. The hotel is great and I alway enjoy staying there.
“Pleasant stay”
Two things we were not totally satisfied with although we knew when we booked. No air conditioning. There was a fan on the ceiling. Thankfully the timing of our trip was in October so it was a little cooler. Dread to think what it would have been like it was during the peak summer season. Charging for the car parking. Convenient location, good service, comfortable stay.
“Choose a different hotel...”
Pros: Very comfy room, private patio & cookies at check-in Cons: The proximity to the wharf area was more circus-like than relaxing vacation. Parking was an extra fee & could be a hike from your actual room. I would choose something in the older section of Monterey, or Carmel next time for a more calm & quiet experience. You could get an equally nice/nicer hotel at a better price.
“wonderful!!”
We really enjoyed our stay. Perfect service at every moment. :) The kids club things were a favorite for our family for sure!!
“3”
very nosy,room too small!
“Portola”
The hotel was extremely difficult to find! Sleep was not restful due to mechanical noises all night. Possibly a sump pump or something similar . . . On a positive note, the lobby is beautiful; the wharf is only a few steps away; and the back exterior is impressive.
“Monterey lovers”
Had stayed 5 years ago and said we would return - hotel, room and surrounds as pretty as we had remembered. Resort quiet so not many people ate breakfast in hotel - as a result we had too many staff fawning over us - even bigger issue was that the staff used the area by our table as a thoroughfare! This is not a major issue because there are lots of great eateries within yards of the hotel itself. Only surprise was that we had to pay for self-parking but that aside if we were ever lucky enough to be able to stay in this part of California again, we would consider it.
“portola getaway”
We thought this hotel was great. Although our room wasn't ready when we checked in, everything else was fine. The hotel eventually changed our room so we could get checked in. The location was ideal. We walked easily to Fisherman's Wharf, and two days in a row to the Aquarium. The Spa was also very good. Over all, a great location and very comfortable rooms.
