It's a great hotel if you are deaf...

Nice hotel. Very accommodating staff. Absolutely noisiest hotel I've even stayed at...& I've stayed A LOT of places!!! We were actually having conversations with our neighbors- through the walls. Not sure if it's because it's all wooden floors...?

Great location!

Posted 02-Sep-2014
Pros: location, room size, friendly staff
Cons: breakfast
Very pleased we decided to stay at the Hotel Pacific. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Our room was HUGE and lovely! The location was only a 5 minute walk to Fisherman's Wharf and some of Monterey's historic buildings. Cannery Row was only 1 mile away, but we decided to drive as this was on our way out of town. Only minor complaint: breakfast was fine, but I've paid less at hotels and received more.

Great location but.........

Posted 02-Sep-2014
Pros: Location, easy on/off major street into Monterey, good parking facility (although $20/night!).
Cons: Add air conditioning, upgrade breakfast a bit.
Location: Hotel is easy walk to all "downtown" Monterey (lots of restaurants, etc) and walkable to Cannery Row (about 15-20 minutes).
My wife and I decided fairly late to go to Monterey for Labor Day weekend. I did searching and decided to try Hotel Pacific since we knew the location (normally we stay at the Marriott just down the street) and the rates were good for Labor Day at least. After booking I read some of the reviews and was pretty amazed at the real diversity of opinions! Lots of really good and really poor reviews intermixed. I was a little uneasy as my wife can be very picky about our rooms. However, I must say we didn't see much at all of the "bad" comments. The hotel is an older property and it shows in the overall design (narrow hallways, small elevators, etc) but the property was clean, including the basement garage. The room was quite big (we did upgrade to junior suite, which may make a big difference) and on the back side. The lack of air conditioning is the biggest single minus to us, as it was warm and the window opened out into a very small outer space so breezes were pretty much non-existent. You can tell this is wood construction because there is little sound deadening, although it wasn't really objectionable during our two nights (other than family with young kids that were a bit noisy in the hall, but you gotta expect that!). The breakfast is pretty limited, but it is "continental" so you can't expect eggs and bacon. Overall this is nice older hotel in great location. Staying in cooler months would solve the lack of A/C. Upgrade to the Jr Suite is my recommendation!

Great room, but beware of hidden fees.

Posted 02-Sep-2014
Pros: The room, the maid staff.
Cons: Be honest about the parking fee, or just include it in the room cost. Some members of the front desk staff need training to be more professional.
The first thing you need to know is that they charge $20 per day for parking at the hotel. This is not stated anywhere on their website, and when you pull into the underground lot they don't disclose a charge. So, you park, you go to check in, then they tell you that unless you want to move to street parking (which has a two-hour limit) you will need to pay $20. The lady at the front desk just said "$20", so I was again surprised at check out to discover it was actually $20 per day.The whole thing seemed underhanded, especially since the cost wasn't disclosed during booking. The woman I checked in with was the same one I had spoken to on the phone when confirming the reservation. Even though I had told her we needed a king bed and a couch in our suite, she had us booked in a double queen suite. Fortunately, there was another family checking in at the same time who needed two queens and had been booked for a king, so we switched. But the fact that neither of us were getting what we had booked, and the disinterested demeanor of the clerk I was dealing with, made me think this happens a lot. All that said, we LOVED our room. We had one of the unremodeled suites, which features a low bar that separates the living area from the bedroom. The TV swivels so that you can watch it in either room. This was absolutely perfect for traveling with a small child. I hope that if they remodel these rooms, they keep the same layout. Also, the maid staff was really great.

Comfortable Stay for families

Posted 02-Sep-2014
Pros: Good location for walking to the pier for restaurants. The free trolley to the aquarium and cannery row stops across the street from hotel.
Cons: Offer free parking
We had a junior suite (2 double beds) on the second floor that was very comfortable. Breakfast is good with fruit, cereal, bagels, eggs, juice, milk and coffee/tea.

Over priced

Posted 01-Sep-2014
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Everything, especially the mold in the bathroom.
Location: Near the fairgrounds
Overpriced cheap hotel. We paid over $200 for something that should be $60 a night.

NOISE!!!!!!

Posted 01-Sep-2014
Pros: The staff was really great. The rooms are pleasantly different from others I have stayed in. That's why I picked it.
Cons: Noise problems.
Location: Within walking distance of Fisherman's Wharf and the trolley's to Cannery Row.
This is the loudest hotel I have ever stayed at. Room noise was okay, people above or below me. Cobblestone hallways...really bad idea!! My friend in the room next to me was kept up till early in the morning. The noise was overly extreme. Noise continued even after the guest was told about complaint. When moved to another room the next night the people next to her checked in at midnight and kept her up while partying till early morning hours. Signs should be posted everywhere about consideration for your fellow guests. Guest comfort should be priority! Unfortunately I will not be staying there again.

Comfortable and quiet

Had a lovely suite with fireplace and comfortable seating. Small deck to outside was a welcome respite to read and relax. A wonderful stay - didn't want to leave! We will definitely be back.

Just A place to stay

Posted 27-Aug-2014
Pros: Beds and bedding.
Location: Very convenient to beach, pier, tourist areas, aquarium and parks.
Hotel check in staff unfriendly when I arrived; friendlier as time went by. The common areas tired, worn and looked slightly unkempt. Needs a frshening up of floors, paint, furnishings and window treatments. Rooms had nice bedding and beds, but tile floors looked dirty. Rooms were roomy enough with lovely individual private balconies.
