My sister and I were looking for a quiet retreat to begin the healing process after the death of her husband. The Hotel Pacific more than met out expectations. We were given a beautiful upgraded room with amazing views. It was quiet and comfortable, just what we needed. We took our breakfast up to our room and enjoyed it on the balcony. The staff was very helpful when I discovered I had left a bag with shoes in the room. The young man who took my phone call followed up with housekeeping, let me know they had found the bag right away and arranged to get it back to me. I would definitely stay here again.
Sat slightly above the boardwalk, close enough to see all the sights (most from our room or the balcony that wraps around) but far enough away to be quiet and away from the crowds.
Great overnight stop although we wished we could have stayed longer.
Nice to have breakfast included as well as the wine and cheese in the evening, very welcome after a car journey.
The pier is less then 10 minutes walk and has a huge selection of restaurants to choose from and our selection, Fire Fish Grill, was great food and at reasonable prices.
Check out the sea lions along the pier, great entertainment!

We stayed for two nights and everything was great except two things: no elevator and we were on the third floor. Stairs are hard for me and so we asked to be moved to a lower floor. Nothing was available. Not even a freight elevator in the building.
The second thing was no parking. We could buy valet parking for two days for $14.00 per day including in and out privileges or use the city garage for $7.00 per day with no in or out privileges. So $7.00 every time you wanted or needed to drive somewhere. This was two blocks away. Valet turned out to be great but I wished the hotel had a lot to park of it's own.
Other than those two things, we loved our stay. Location was fabulous and so was the farmers market on Tuesdays. It went from 3:00 until later into the evening. They sold many things besides produce. And it was right in front of the hotel, with a few blocks in each direction. Restaurants were abundant. I even got a wonderful massage for $15.00 at GG's. Ciba had a great happy hour for drinks (even blended virgin ones) and appetizers, and was right across the street. Continental breakfast was good too.
Despite the pitfalls we loved the Monterey Hotel. I asked at check-out when the elevator would be fixed and she said six months but it will probably be more like a year.
Get there early to make the most of this wonderful hotel / B&B. The staff were really helpful - good leads on restaurants and activities. The location is perfect to explore Pacific Grove, a block from downtown, 2 blocks from the bay and the bike trail - so bring your bikes.
The staff was very helpful and friendly. We were greeted with an invitation to have wine and cheese which we had each afternoon we were there. The location is a few blocks from Cannery row and with in walking distance of fishermans wharf and down town. A walk along the ocean trail was very enjoyable.
