“OK stay but with shortcomings”

The Clarion Hotel Monterey is OK for the price. Our room was reserved weeks in advance to keep an appointment in Monterey. We had chosen the Clarion for location, relaxation and for complimentary breakfast. Two issues to mention. After we'd unpacked we wanted to relax in the Jacuzzi. How disappointing to find the metal drain plug broken off so that the tub did not retain water. Since we found it detached, sitting in the center of the tub, we must conclude that hotel staff were aware of the mechanical problem prior to our stay, and knowingly, had given us a problem room. We got over it and went to sleep. In the morning, we were disappointed to find that complimentary breakfast service would start at 7:30 AM, not 7:00, as noted on the engraved plaque in the office. (Another cost-saving measure?) By 7:30 AM, there was a crowd of guests gathered, waiting outside the breakfast room. How could we get through the line in time? We were obliged to skip breakfast in order to get to our 8 AM appointment, with no opportunity to for food until noon. If neither shortcoming bothers you, you will appreciate the Clarion. Good price, good location.

“Not impressed”

Room was small and cramped, woken up early each morning by trash or gardening service and could hear the tv/people in the rooms around us. Continental breakfast was decent.

“A great stay”

Clarion is fairly easy to find the first time. Motel is senior and handicap friendly. Parking is great especially the covered. The office ladies are prompt and extremely helpful. Excellent free maps of local. Did not use computer in office or web or indoor pool. Continental breky much better than average. Second floor walk up room was to die for. A king, queen, furnished balcony, working fireplace, large kitchenette, cable tv, roomy. Bathroom / closet facilities much better than average. Safe, well lit, roomy. Aircon works. No neighbor noise. Street noise not bad.

Excellent economical hotel. Rooms smallish, but cosy. Nice breakfast.Close to attractions. Pleasant and helpful staff.

“would stay again”

We stayed for two nights here. The fireplace was nice,parking was free and easy. The pool was great! the kids loved it. It's pretty big and deep for a hotel pool. The hotel was a short drive to the wharf and cannery row. I would stay there again.

“Cant wait to go back, it was excellent”

My husband and I went for our 20th anniversary and the hotel was in a nice place, clean and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was great with lots of pressure which is so nice. Would definately go back. The continental breakfast was great, they offer alot more than the usual fruit and muffins. Highly reccomend.

“Best Motel for Kids, great pool, separate rooms, close to everything and Great Value!”

My daughter's favorite pool and motel. We spent spring break touring Northern CA staying at different hotels, but each having an indoor heated pool. This motel was her favorite. The two queen beds were in separate rooms with a door between them. My daughter had her own room, a big plus for Mom and Dad, plus the pool was fantastically warm, ~90-95 F (like bath water). The pool is deep. When were back in Monterey will definitely stay here. It was a great value.

“Nice Surprise”

The Clarion Hotel Monterey deserve more stars than it is given. We had a comfortable stay, in a clean, spacious room and at walking distance to downtown. Only complaint is that the tab water is overly treated with too much chlorine.

It was just a very nice small hotel with friendly staff. It was in walking distance to the Wharf.
