“Total Disappointment”
I stayed at Sunset Beach hotel this summer and I thought is was ok even though my son's tennis bag and equipment was stolen. On this trip 15-17 December I booked 2 nights only. On arrival I did not get a safe key as they had none available. I requested a room on a low level and was allocated a room on the 6th floor. On the 2nd night they had the entertainment quite close to the block we were staying in so my daughter who was tired and wanting an early night was furious as she could not sleep due to the loud noise. She went down to the reception desk to complain but nothing was done. The entertainment went on until around midnight. There was also some form of chemical smell in the room as well as the corridors which made it difficult for us to sleep. I was glad to leave Sunset Beach. We went on to the Holiday Inn and had a wonderful time. The cost of staying at Sunset Beach was twice the amount we paid per night at the Holiday Inn. The holiday Inn provided free Wifi connection which we had to pay for at Sunset Beach.
“Sunset was AMAZING! 5 STARS!!”
Hotel was marvellous, absolutely fantastic hospitality. Staff all lovely and friendly, food amazing! We were treated like superstars and I am hard to please. Will definitely be returning. I'd recommend 100 times over. Note - had the opportunity to visit the other Sunset resorts, they're all amazing but I definitely preferred Montego Bay's Sunset.
“Will go back”
The staff at Sunset Beach Resort was awesome. They were extremely friendly and service oriented. The beach front balcony view was spectacular. The beaches were nice. The food was very good, especially the buffet. The eating areas were very clean. This is a family resort with the waterpark. There were some kids, but there is plenty of space if you want some privacy. If you expect wild partying night life, this is not your place to stay. But there are several bars you can grab a cocktail and relax. The only disappointment was the cappicino machine was not functional. Overall our stay was a pleasant one. The resort is a little older than some others, needs a little updating, but it appeared they were working on that..
“Good but not great”
The Sunset Beach Spa and Resort was beautiful on arrival. The initial take on the hotel was that it was different. I liked the decor and outside inside look of the place. It took awhile to confirm our reservations because we used expedia so make sure you have copies of your itinery with you. The front desk check in ladies were not really cordial but it was busy so that could be understood. But everyone else was extremely nice and accomodating. The room was nice but it had bugs. I never saw a roach but my friend did. I did see several small little crab looking bugs in the bathroom and near the tv. I also killed a hopping spider. They even had signs up about taking plates to the rooms because of bugs. So they have major pest control issues. The water park is fun but it is like the other reviews I read. It needs to be remodeled and painted. There were several areas of the water park closed because of repair issues. It could be great with just a decent paint job. The food was another issue. The restaurants have to be reserved 24 hours in advance so make sure you try out the dining area on the first night. We tried the Italian and Jamaican restaurants and did not like either. The dining area was great, especially the BREAD PUDDING! The overall atmosphere of this hotel was great. But the pest control problem seriously gives you some cause of alarm. Would I go back there, yes but i would definitely bring my own bug spray! lol
“Nice for the price”
It was a standard all-inclusive. The only real let down was the daily buffet. It was 95% American food. No local cuisine or fruits.
“Can't wait to go back!”
Everything about this Hotel is awesome. While we were checking in, they handed us a non-alcoholic beverage. The only thing that was slightly off, was that when we got to our room we had 2 beds. We only needed one. They said we could check with the office in the morning to get a 1-bed room. Once we opened the curtains, we did not want to change rooms. (we could only afford a garden room, we got an ocean view in the tower). It is all-inclusive and you think..."meh the food isn't going to be very good" or "there aren't going to be that many choices" but that was not the case. I recommend right after check in you make reservations for the restaurants though. I also recommend Rum Cream and pulling one of those fancy beach chairs they have into the water just so that your feet are submerged.
“Not what I expected”
Check in was quick, but I had booked one king bed room and they gave us a room that had a lousy view and two full size beds. When I asked for a room with a king bed they told me they did not have any available. The buffet was okay if you like Jerk Chicken every day. The 3 restaurants were very good but you could only eat at all three of them one time during the week. The beach was not impressive and you could not swim out too far bec it was all grassy and muddy. My husband wanted to go out on the small sailboats and everytime he asked, the staff told him the currents were too bad. Entertainment was not what I expected, but not too bad overall if you like just listening to the same band all week. Went to Margaritaville one night which was empty at 9;30 pm and when we left and walked up the strip to the bus stop, we were harrassed by guys waiting outside to sell you drugs or prescription drugs. OVerall the resort was okay for the cost, but would have rather stayed somewhere else better.
“Good Stay, not overly impressed”
My husband and I stayed for 3 nights (midweek) at Sunset. Our goal was a relaxing getaway before baby #2 comes. Our goal was accomplished. This is overall a nice resort with spacious rooms and beautiful views. However, we would probably caution people prior to recommending the hotel. 1. Close to airport - 15 minutes from Montego Bay Airport which was very nice. We booked a shuttle online for $10pp and with tips, we paid $49 round trip. Book Round Trip...very important. 2. Clean Rooms - the rooms were spacious and very clean. My recommendation - book the OCEANVIEW. We upgraded on our second day and it was well worth it - we left our balcony door open for 48 hours straight and loved the sounds of the ocean. Tuesday is a BBQ and so it may be noisy, but other entertainment is on the main stage and you can't heaar anything. 3. Food - ** 2 STARS - my husband and I both agree that when they made chicken, it was good. Everything else was below what I would think is standard. My hospital cafeteria and college served tastier food. It wouldn't take much to improve the taste and quality. 4. Be prepared to tip (and be asked to tip) - not at the resort except for holding your luggage. Overall, we had a nice stay - the resort is small, but we had plenty of time to relax and enjoy ourselves. If you know what you are looking for and aren't picky, stay here - worth the savings. Just pick a local place for an evening out or use the resort's reserved dining.
“"It was nice"”
It was nice. Old hotel, rooms need some upkeep.. lots of things to do.. nice staff.
“Not impressed at all”
I was not impressed at all. The food was horrible, cold, not much variety or choice. When my friends checked in they had to be moved because drug paraphenelia was found in the drawers in their rooms after they checked in. The drinks barely had any alcohol in it. When i asked the bartender for a drink he looked like he didnt even want to serve it. The plumbing made an awful sound anytime anybody in the rooms around me used the bathroom or showered and it kept me up all night. Breakfast at the buffet was HORRIBLE. Once again the food was COLD. The staff was NOT as friendly. If you are considering staying at Sunset Beach resort....DONT. Just spend a little bit extra money and stay at Secrest resort just around the corner. Its more expensive but well worth it. Another thing about Sunset Beach is that its a much more open setting so security was an issue for me. And there is NO ROOM SERVICE. Also this resort doenst have much of a beach by it. Oh and did i mention the food was HORRIBLE AND COLD. Worst resort i have been to by far
