“Good Enough to Want an Extension!”

The resort is beginning to show its age, but is still able to deliver a good time. Toiletries in the hotel room (shampoo, conditioner, soap) are not refilled/replaced daily, but that was not a huge issue. Beds were a bit soft for my taste, but did not get in the way of a good night's rest after a day in the sun. Water park is small but has everything you need. I imagine that it can get super crowded pretty quickly during the busy season, but we had no problem with access and finding beach chairs during our visit (12/04/2011 to 12/08/2011). Quality of the buffet food ranged from "passable" to "excellent," depending on the offerings. Best breakfast buffet food was from the omelette bar; best lunch was from the beach side cafe (jerk beef patties); and best dinner buffet food was from the pasta bar. We had dinner at the two reservations-only restaurants, Three Palms and Luna Mare. I was a bit disappointed with the Three Palms steak, which was not worth the extra $20 I had to pay for it, so stick to the all-inclusive meals. Luna Mare served an excellent potato soup and spaghetti with lamb meat balls, but the service was so S-L-O-W!! I felt like we wasted a good amount of time there. Our stay was 5 days & 4 nights, which went by QUICKLY. I believe a stay of about 7 to 8 days would have been ideal, with two days spent off-site, perhaps at Negril or Ochos Rios. As it was, we spent the entire time at the resort, with a brief two-hour outing to a nearby shopping center.

Area recommendations
We did not have a chance to spend much time outside the resort. With regard to outside shopping, we went to a place called Holiday Village, where we bought instant Jamaican coffee, keychains, t-shirts, and spices. There are definitely deals available outside the resort, but check the resort store first to compare prices. I found a Jamaican soccer jersey at the resort for $28; the exact same shirt at Holiday Village had a price tag of $54. The salesperson offered a discounted price of $38 and lowered that to $30 as I was walking out of the store. I ended up buying the jersey at the resort. If you do go out to Holiday Village, be prepared for very aggressive sales pitches and price haggling.
When to go
Pick a non-busy time of year. I was told that summers (June to August) and winter holidays are very busy (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year). We went between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and we had absolutely no crowds, including on the plane flights!

“No Hilton Points”

I loved the hotel and the service. The pools were great! The spa was great. The service was great. The bed was comfortable and the view (ocean view) was perfect. Negatives: Don't bother with the all inclusive package, as it is pretty mundane fare - filling, ok variety, etc. but not fine dining. The "fine restaurants" are only OK, nothing special, and you will want to go out to get local fare which is much more interesting, so why spend the extra. Taxis were expensive and the hotel is way out. Seems like I spent $70-100/day on them. Many excursions were hard to book, as not enough people signed up, which is nuts, as I got a taxi, went to locations and got in easily. I was really looking forward to sailing on the beach, but the claim was it was too rough. On 2 days it was, but one day was fine. I felt like they didn't want to bother. Last, I booked through Expedia, only to have the Hilton say they wouldn't give me any hotel point credits since I didn't book directly with them. Considering what I spent there, this was not acceptable to me.

Area recommendations
Go to the Hip Strip (Glouster Road) to the local restaurants and night clubs. There are many nice ones and they have a local flavor, unlike the resort.

Hubby and I stayed at the Hilton Rose Hall for our anniversary! Upon arrival staff was very friendly and helpful! The room was very clean and airy! Food was awesome..didnt go to the reserved restuarants because we really enjoyed the wonderful buffet assortment at Fresh! There is always food and drink available..Mangoes is good also Loved the jerk chicken they serve..sea side grill wasnt open for food when we went they only offered drinks but that was ok. Overall we loved this hotel and all it had to offer!! Will definitley be returning!!!!!!!!!!!

“Beware...”

The island of Jamaica is beautiful and the waterpark was a lot of fun. But the staff and service was poor. The employees were just that...employees. Nobody seemed the least bit happy with their job or the fact that their job was "customer service". The food was not the best to serve at a place that is "family" oriented.

“not sure about the star rating”

We stayed here for a break last week and whilst there was nothing particularly wrong with the hotel I think it is more of a 3 star hotel then the 4 star it states. The rooms are adequate but could do with a refit sometime soon. The staff were friendly and we couldnt fault them. It was interesting to see that the only time we had the 'extra' touches added to our room was the night before we left, so maybe the hope of a tip makes a difference! The sea was very cloudy for the first stretch and only became clear once it got deeper. There is a lot of seaweed. The beach is cleaned daily to try to help this though. We dined at both of the restaurants that have to be pre booked and the Italian was awful with poor service, but the Three Palms restaurant was very diffferent with excellent food and service. One last thing to watch is to be very careful of the charge for children at the hotel as despite paying your amount to Expedia the hotel will charge you $70 per night for every child who shares a room with you, so this makes a big difference to the total holiday cost.

“Good times were had by both”

It was our first trip to Jamaica and our first time travelling together. Despite a potentially stresssful 'situation'...we had a wonderful time. The hotel was a mix of families and couples....lots to do for all generations. The beach, or lack thereof, was really the only disappointment. The pools, lazy river, water slides, accessibility to kayaks, catamarands,..diversity of restaurants and the food offered was great, as was the nightly entertainment. Since we're not golfers we didn't take advantage of that but its wonderful to have it available. We were only there for 3 days so we had limited time to take in much else other than the hotel. We did go on afull-day excursion which included Dunns River Falls and the Tramway. We enjoyed it all. Climbing the falls was the highlight but bobsledding, ziplining and the chairlift were great fun. Did I mention we were seniors and took part in everything without a problem?

When to go
We travelled at the end of November.....the weather was perfect. We expected the evenings might get chilly but it was not the case at all. Also no bugs....we loved that.
Getting around
Difficult, except by cab, which can be expensive. Nowhere to walk, except around the hotel grounds or on a busy road, and nothing to see once you got out there.
Must see
Dunns River Falls....tons of people but lots of fun. The guides were great. Well worth the visit.
Outdoors or beach
No beach to speak of, and what there was wasn't appealing. Murky water due to churned up sand and lots of accumulated plant material at the shore to wade through. The hotel staff try very hard to keep it under control, but its definitely an issue. The lazy river, water slides and pool options at the hotel more than made up for the lack of beach.

“Fantastic Family Vacation”

We had a small "family reunion" at the Hilton Rose Hall and had a wonderful stay. Most of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We all had fun on the Lazy River and the water slides. There was something for everyone in our party - ages 5 to 69.

“FABULOUS”

This was my husbands first trip away and how fabulous it was! IT was an amazing hotel so friendly (Iwas sad to leave the staff) so easy to get around ocean view in whichever room you stay in and most important so much fun! It is perfect for couples and families as well! The lazy river is amazing my husband and I spent alot of time in it and never once were we annoyed with children being around, you never noticed and the kayaking and sailing on the ocean were fun (and free)! So many activities and so beautiful to even just to go walking in the evenings! Entertainment was great and the food amazing! I cannot wait to go back! My other family stayed at the grand pladium in Jamaica and they disliked it! It was so big that it took you for ever to get anywhere and the pool was big but boring and most of them got belly aches if you know what I mean we spent the day there for the wedding and I agree with them it was too too big and tireing! I also liked this hotel because it was in the middle of everything, the airport, negrill and ochis rios, the tourist places you must see!

Just so much fun!

“A wonderful getaway!”

I spent a long weekend at the Hilton Rose Hall Resort and Spa. I hope to be able to return in the near future, as 3 days here wasn't enough! The staff were personable, friendly, and extremely genuine. I traveled alone for a solo getaway, and they took very good care of me. Check in and check out were a breeze. The pool and water park were relaxing (lots of adults enjoying a run --- or more --- down the slide at the water park!), and the water at the beach was very clear and warm. Quite a delightful trip, indeed. I would recommend this resort to anyone!
