Expedia accepted the booking without informing me that the hotel is virtually closed for winter.
Reception left the key out for me on arrival Sunday afternoon
There was no restairant or bar - and nobody to book a taxi for the next morning
On Monday I left before breakfast (on Tuesday breakfast was good)
I paid on departure, but wanted to pay the previous evening - reception desk was closed even BEFORE the time stated..... could have been very difficult to pay if I had an earlier departure
Room large, clean and comfortable.
Hotel by lake is probably very nice in the sunshine, but I only saw it in te dark
Sweden is an expensive country, and the hotel rates reflect that. So for the rate you pay, this isn't a bad place, but there are several things to consider. First, the front desk is only manned part of the day, so if you arrive after 8pm you'll have to call the number on the front door to get the code for the little key vault on the door with your hotel/room key in it. The person did answer the phone promptly though and was courteous and spoke English well. The hotel is right across the street from the train station, but Swedish trains (at least here) don't make a lot of noise- none of that obnoxious whistle blowing like in the US but if you're a light sleeper it may be an issue for you. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean and while small, no smaller than most hotel rooms you'll find unless you spend a lot more money. However, there were no tissues (a minor point, but a notable absence), minimal towels, and no phone in the room which means no wake up calls though there was an alarm clock in the room. There was a flat screen tv and it was fine. Breakfast consisted of a few cold cuts and various clod cereals and rolls with slightly bitter tasting orange juice (coffee was available but I don't drink it so no info there, sorry). This is in stark contrast to most other Swedish hotels (even the ones in this same price range) where breakfast is a veritable feast with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and 8-10 other cold items standard. If you're nearby, ok for the money.
I like that the room rate includes a basic evening meal (one choice, buffet style, hearty Swedish food). The rooms are quite small and basic but comfortable. The rooms have most things you need, such as an ironing board. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is happy to provide a bagged breakfast for those who have the misfortune to be on one of the 06:10 flights out of Linkoping airport.
The hotel was nice enough. Clean with friendly helpful staff. But many in Sweden are like that. What sets the Ekoxen Hotel apart for me was the food in the restaurant. I live in Central London and vist really good restaurants regularly. The food here was at least as good as the top end of what I've had in London. Amazing considering the location of the hotel. If you're in Linkoping then stay here and EAT here !

It was perfect in every way but one - music in the square outside the front till late. But I was on a side street and so the music that infiltrated my room was bearable - and I had a good book. But I am an old chap and I like the quiet. And the hotel had that in abundance. I very much enjoyed my stay. Thank you.
