“Overpriced and far removed from the main pay of downtown.”

The Holiday Inn Minneapolis Metrodome is a nice looking building on the exterior. The interior of the rooms is a bit dated. There.s a small section of town with restaurants and pubs across from the hotel, but everything else is a hike. Rooms were overpriced in my opinion, as this was more of a UM hotel instead of a downtown hotel. Most of their parking is UM students. Other similar sized hotel chains in that area for less than half the cost. The staff were friendly and helpful.

“Would probably look elsewhere next time.”

Staff was extremely pleasant even though they couldn't answer some of my simple questions. Hotel seems a little behind the times - breakfast not included, no wi-fi in rooms and only one computer (with 15 minute limit) for guests to use near the front desk and no free shuttle to the airport. It was my first time in Minneapolis and after driving around, I realized there would have been a lot more convenient hotels. But overall I wasn't unhappy with this hotel...in general it was "fine."

“Close to U of M west bank and Guthrie”

Fine but rooms seem ready for facelift. Tub faucet leaked. Heating system didn't work well. Hallways cold. Room service didn't answer but once we finally connected they were very friendly - comped us some ice cream. Quiet.

“Scamming guests on "taxis"”

The night before I left I asked the desk to arrange a taxi to take me to the train station the next morning. The person who met me in the lobby explained that, although the car did not look like a typical taxi, they had been arranged by the hotel to take me to the train. When we arrived at the station, the driver asked for $25. The trip to the hotel from the train had been $11. After I got home I spoke to the hotel manager, who told me they had been using this 'town car' service for 25 years; and that I had made a "choice" to get into the car. (This is at 7:15 a.m., when I need to catch a train.) This really is an abuse of customers' trust on the hotel's part. If they want to offer a towncar service, they should mention that to customers who ask for a "taxi". If one asks for a "taxi" one should get a taxi -- with meter.
