“OK, but not for the price”

The staff was friendly and helpful and the room was big. I didn't care for the mildew in the shower or peeling paint on the bathroom ceiling. No free wi-fi and the connection was very poor - I had to log back on every few minutes. Location is great for arrival by train, but there's not much else nearby. Very limited and expensive hotel restaurant menu. Free breakfast was a plus - good variety, but mediocre quality. Overall, not terrible, but I wouldn't choose it again.

“Excellent value for money”

We travelled with 2 adults and 2 children - nice spacious room, very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was nice as well and staff very polite and helpful.

“Nice location to train station!”

The hotel was very close the train station and this is the reason we chose it. I do however feel the price was a little high for what you get.

“Excellent base”

The Una Hotel Century is literally 5minutes walk fro the Central train station so very convenient for transfers and public transport. On arrival reception staff were friendly and helpful, recommending local restaurants and offering maps of the city. The room was spacious with a seating area and bedroom area separately, tea and coffee making facilities and a pleasant bathroom. Everything was clean and freshly changed. Breakfast was good - everything from fruit and yoghurt, pastries and cold meats and cheeses to bacon, sausage and egg. Overall we were very pleased with the hotel and would recommend it o other travellers.

Area recommendations

The area around the Duomo is the most interesting with historic and shopping areas . The Brera area is pleasant to walk through, it's bohemian with pleasant cafes and shops.

Getting there

We used the malpensa express fom the airport, very good value for money and leaves every 20 minutes or so to the central station.

Getting around

It's easy to walk although there are trams and the Metro. Some sights/ treasures are well hidden and take some searching out, but are well worth the trouble.

Must see

You must get the lift or walk up the stairs to the roof do the Duomo, it's fantastic. Also have a drink or meal on the terrace of the department store opposite to Duomo, the views are spectacular. It's great for people watching too. Don't miss the Last Supper, but you must book ahead. We incorporated it into a walking tour which showed us much more than we would have seen by ourselves.

“Unexpected Find”

This hotel was conveniently located 2 blocks from the Central Milan train/metro station. We were surprised to the long list of complimentary toiletries that were available to us upon request. My fiancee was especially excited that the hotel offered shaving gel and razor especially since we did not carry any luggage with us--only carry-on. After a long day of walking, it was very nice to be able to step into the hotel-provided slippers. Some cons. The same items were served at breakfast each day and we wished that they would change the menu up. There is charge for wi-fi use. Tip. Macchiato and espresso are not available from the coffee machine in the breakfast room. If you put in the request with one of the waiters, they will make it for you in the back.

Area recommendations

Duomo in every Italian city is a must-see and that is true in Milan as well. The Navigli is a great area to hang out in the evening for happy hour and/or dinner. See my recommendation for Nighlife below.

Getting around

The metro is very easy to take. There are also bus maps at each bus stop showing what bus or light rail you can get from one point to another on.

Must see

We stumbled upon Parco Sempione since we had no intention of going there. I read in another tourist review to go to Castello Sforzesco and as we walked through the castle, it lead us to the park. It's a very beautiful and nicely maintained park. It's spacious, clean, and my fiancee and I just spend a few hours on one of the afternoons just relaxing on one of the park benches.

Shopping

The area surrounding the Duomo is the big shopping area. The map that was given to me shows that the shopping areas include Corso Garibaldi and Corso Vittorio Emanuele and their surrounding streets.

Dining

If you are heading to the Navigli for dinner, make sure to try the Homemade pasta "trofie" served w/ curled octopus in tomato sauce & crunchy breadcrumbs in fennel flavour at the osteria Posto di Conversazione.

Nightlife

The Navigli is a great area to hang out in the evening for happy hour and/or dinner. It was recommended to me in a tourist review that I read and we stumbled upon a great restaurant there. Make sure to walk along Ripa di Porta Ticinese between Via Valenza and Viale Gorizia/Vilae G. d'Annunzio. It's a short walk from the Porta Genova metro station. If you walk along the other direction of the Navigli, which we erroneously did given the lack of direction, it's feels a bit sketchy.

“Great location and VERY helpful, friendly staff happy to answer questions. Also great English :)”

I was very pleased. The breakfast was a REAL full breakfast with all kinds of well-stocked goodies. Meats, cheeses, eggs, coffee, tea, juice, pastries, toast, jellies, cereals, a lot of variety. Also, the breakfast room is not near the rooms so you can actually sleep in. :) One of the best hotels I have ever stayed at.
