“I'd go back again.”

The motel was convenient, clean, and a good breakfast for the price. I asked a specific room when I checked in and my request was dealt with in a very friendly way.

“Gutes Hotel in weniger spektakulärer Umgebung”

Das Hotel liegt direkt am Highway und ist daher sehr schnell und einfach erreichbar. Trotz der Lage hielt sich die Lärmbelastung in Grenzen. Das Zimmer selbst war recht groß und sauber. Es roch zwar beim ersten Betreten etwas muffig (evtl. durch die dicken Teppiche überall), war aber akzeptabel. Der Service mit gratis Internet (1 Platz im EG) und Continental Frühstück inkl. war auch gut. Das Frühstück war von der Auswahl her besser als man es oft anderorts vorfindet und kann daher auch als gut bewertet werden. Der Weg ins Zentrum von Midland sollte aufgrund der Entfernung mit dem Auto zurückgelegt werden - lohnt sich aber auch nicht wirklich. Insgesamt ist Midland eher als Übernachtungsort für eine Durchreise zu empfehlen, da vor Ort so gut wie nichts Interessantes vorhanden ist. Evtl. noch eine Bootsrundfahrt - das wars.

When to go
Wir waren insgesamt 3,5 Wochen (20.09. - 14.10.) im Osten Kanadas (Ontario) unterwegs und konnten die Schilder mit der Aufschrift "Closed for Season" nicht mehr sehen. Weil Ende September/Anfang Oktober in Kanada die Ferien vorüber sind schliessen auch sehr viele für Touristen interessante Dinge - ohne Rücksicht auf ausländische Urlauber. Es wird zwar sehr viel und oft der "Indian Summer" beworben und als tolle Reisezeit beschrieben, aber es wird sich in dieser Zeit nicht mehr wirkklich für die Touristen interessiert. Um auf eine, in verschiedenen Reiseführern beschriebene, Insel zu kommen, die normalerweise von einem Daytripper-Schiff angefahren wird (und um 20 CAD kostet) sollten wir (weil closed for season) für ein Wassertaxi hin und zurück zusammen knapp 150 CAD zahlen. Und das ist nur ein Beispiel (hier in der Region um Midland) für ähnliche Erfahrungen innerhalb unserer Rundreise.
