“Always good to be back”
Not my first time at the Catalina Hotel, and the place is always very pleasant, convenient and welcoming. This time around I stayed at the Maxine building. The room was quite different from the other ones I've stayed at, more like asian style and a bit claustrophobic, but since we stayed for only one night, it was fine. This room was on the first floor, and the noise was unbearable... once again - one night stay was ok. The roof-top pool is great! Non pretentious atmosphere like other South Beach hotel pools, never too crowded and perfectly designed. Warmly recommended.
“Pleasant stay”
Room looked as advertised, nice staff for the most part, and good perks (airport shuttle, happy hour, towel service). Elevators are small and dirty though (saw a roach once), and concierge wasn't very helpful when needing a pass to the local gym. Lower level pool doesn't get much sun during the day, but provides a nice place to be with a special someone at night ;).
“Could use some updating”
Hotel is convenient, but could use some updating and rooms could be cleaner.
“Go there... Excellent location”
The Catalina was a very nice place to have stayed at. Located on South beach, the convenience of this hotel was very nice. The beach is literally a 3mins walk. The downside is the $32 valet parking. Service was prompt and professional. Did I mention that the beds are SOOOOO comfortable? Yes... I slept like a baby. As for the people complaining about the noise coming from the life band, I slept just fine. Good place for the price.
“Loved the Happy Hour!”
My room was not the nicest, although my friend also stayed and I LOVED his room.
“HELL NO”
I reserved a king and I got a queen. If I wanted to upgrade, the charge is more than the $32.00 day valet charge. I was willing to relocate but they would not let me out of my 3day (king bed) reservation. Go stay at motel six and get a cab. Ridiculous. Oh yeah, the shower flows from ceiling which floods, so pop a few painkillers after you slip....
“Good location and cute boutique hotel but would not stay again...”
I got such a great deal on Expedia for the Catalina that I could not pass it up, so I can't complain on that but would have been more upset if paid full price. They put us in room right above the Maxine bar. The room vibrated with music the entire time. I called at 5am once to ask them to please to turn it off so I could sleep (which they did turn it down). Very cute decor throughout the rooms and 3 buildings but the rooms are extremely small. No drawer space what-so-ever (not 1 drawer) and closet wasn't big enough for clothes to hang all the way. Our window leaked from the rain and safe did not work. But we did love the temperpetic beds (if wasn't for those I would have never slept from the loud booming music downstairs). Good location and walkable to most anywhere (close to Lincoln Rd Mall) . Prob would not stay here again unless I got an incredible deal.
“Plenty of other options for the price”
There are plenty bad hotels in south beach, this is one of the really bad ones, if you are on a budget rent a car and stay in downtown Miami.
“Great Location”
We enjoyed ourselves and had great location to everything shopping, beach and Ocean Drive. Only draw back is pool area managed by outside company who can be rude and not consider you are guests of the hotel.
“good value”
The free shuttle service was not identified with the hotel name. Guess what nobody told us about it so we had to wait 2 hours and 2 phone calls later from Miami airport to get the correct i.d. of the bus . A photo of the bus for future users should be e-mailed to them. The fridge was also quite noisy. Apart from that a nice pool and stay.
