“Hotel Prim meets value of low budget per night.”

Hotel Prim has nice service. An older, not updated hotel which was very basic. Firm bed, no A/C, no screens in window with some occasional noise and mosquito. Take a fan and you'll be okay. Bathroom was good. Good place if you plan to spend most of your time touring Mexico City. At low budget price per night it met the value of US hotels in similar condition.

Area recommendations
Polanco is a trendy more upbeat area with great restaurants. Very good sites to see are Chapultepec Castle and park, the Great Pyramids (impressive), and the authentic/traditional Floating Gardens (enjoy the boat cruise like Venice Italy). A few excellent restaurants are Meridiem in Chapultepec park, Morton's steakhouse (USA franchise) and Sejofra in Chapultepec (excellent Churros with hot chocolate).

“Not a good experience, not repeating.”

The only good aspect of this hotel is some people that work in it, that's it. Not recomended. Avoid it.

“Great INEXPENSIVE no-frills choice”

Great area, nice employees. Forget the free breakfast it is a scam to upsell and it takes forever for the poor undermanned server. Although it is affordable and good. I just pick up tortillas at the metro Cuauhtemoc stop a few blocks away. Use the internet-centers at the Insurgentes glorieta one metro stop away. Walk to the Alameda, Ciudadela, Zona Rosa. Take the MetroBus along Insurgentes. Have the hotel flag you a cab cheap and easy at night. Neighborhood is safe, though night and day. Pick up big bottles of water at the Oxxo down the block and also use the complimentary bottle of water in the room. Hard beds, thin lumpy pillows, thin sheets and small mismatched blankets, but completely worth it for the low low low Expedia price. Hot water, basic tv. No AC. But comfortable enough. I recommend it for those who just want an affordable, safe, clean enough place.

Area recommendations
This Colonia Juarez near the Cuauhtemoc Metro is ideal. Walk to the Alameda, Paseo de Reforma, Zona Rosa. Take the Metro or MetroBus everywhere. I love DF. It is no more dangerous than any world capitol. The drug violence from the border is not present here. Mexico City has more public art, museums, culture and architecture than most cities around the world.

“BEWARE! DO NOT STAY HERE!!”

I've been in cheap hotels before, but this one tops all of them. I paid extra to get a Junior Suite, as they described it as modern. NOT AT ALL MODERN! The room looked as if a prostitute had just left the room! To make my point even more clearer, there is a sign by the bed that says HIV/AIDS affects me, you, and us. The room was red velvet all over and the sheets and room looked dingy and dirty. There wasn't even a remote control or iron in the room - in order to get those "luxuries", you must put down a $200 peso deposit for each and sign a paper for them. There is no free flowing air because the all windows are facing either brick walls or other windows to other rooms. I checked out after two nights in the hotel and found another one for a better price and although it isn't luxurious, it's clean!

“A very good low price hotel”

The room was comfortable, clean and quiet, the continental breakfast was excellent, the staff was friendly, the subway was within walking distance, and the price was right. There were really only two problems: there was no view to the outside since the window gave onto a very small courtyard, and the smell in the bathroom was quite unpleasant ( it seemed like a mixture of disinfectant smell and sewer smell, the bathroom itself was always very clean). I delt quite successfully with the unpleasant smell by always keeping the bathroom door closed. I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone wanting good value for money.

Area recommendations
I spent 12 days in Mexico City. I particularly enjoyed the historical centre, the Museum of Anthropology, Chapultepec park, the University, Coyoacan, the many museums and other sites containing murals of Diego Rivera and others. Travelling by subway is easy and quite cheap. I also walked a lot. I am a middle-age woman and never felt unsafe. People on the streets and in the subway are very friendly and helpful. However, anyone travelling on their own would greatly benefit if they know some Spanish, because most people cannot speak English.
When to go
I went to Mexico City in mid-September. The streets were very crowded the first weekend because they had just celebrated their National holiday. After that, there were few tourists. Before my departure from Canada, the weather forecasts on the web always mentioned rain. In reality, it was always sunny till about 3:00 pm when it looked like it was going to rain any minute: in fact, it only rained three times, and each time for less than an hour. So, I would say that Sept. - Oct. is the right time to go; the daytime max. temperature was always 22 - 25 degrees C, quite comfortable.
Getting there
Look for specials, you may be able to find much cheaper airfares if you forego a non-stop flight.
Getting around
After Mexico City I visited other cities within a 200 km radius. First class bus service is outstandingly good, buses are very frequent, inexpensive, and depart at the advertised times. There are several bus terminals, but one can often find buses going directly to and from the Mexico City international airport, bypassing the problem of having to transfer from one terminal to another when visiting several cities.
Must see
Do not miss visiting the Zocalo, the cathedral and the National Palace in the historical centre. Also, if you are at all interested in ancient civilizations, go to the Anthropological Museum and make a day trip to Teotihuacan. On a sunny Sunday afternoon, walk in Chapultepec Park, enjoy the sight of the Mexican families, and visit the castle. The most accessible Diego Rivera mural is in a dedicated museum in Alameda Park, you should see this to get a feel for that great art.

“Mexico trip 2010”

I went to meet my girlfriend that was met through online service. She showed me as much as possible in the time I was there.Mexico City was far beyond anthing I was expecting. Is a wonderful and beautiful city.Even though I was foreign, everyone worked well with me and my horrible spanish.City is so clean and safe. I was out late walking everynight...and yes Mexico City is very romantic at night and during the day to.I will be going back to Mexico City in 2011 January/February ....is possible that I plan to move there in 2 years.

Area recommendations
Zone 3 ( pink ) I think is where I was.Was in a great area close to the busy part of the city. Everything was walking distance. for the most part. about 2 blocks from the main road system for the bus, taxis are everywhere, subway was close as well.

“Basic amenities, centrally located, affordable”

The hotel is centrally located in one of the best neighborhoods in the city. It is not by any means a fancy hotel, but has all the necessary basic amenities. It includes a decent restaurant and also within walking distance: an argentinian parrilada restaurant ($14 all you can eat steaks) and also a local fast food joint. Metro: about a 10 min walk. Area is very safe overall.

“Great Location, So So Hotel... w/Great Customer Service”

When we arrived at the Hotel it was as seen in the pictures, the location was Great for the price... just a block away from one of the most important streets in Mexico City. The Hotel itself is old and needs renovation but the service is excellent. If you are looking for an "ok" hotel on a budget, consider this one as a top pick.
