“Perfect Taormina Hotel”
We keep an eye on the old and new hotels in the town but haven't found one to match the all-around amenities of the Diodoro. Pretty much every year we return to the Diodoro for our holiday in Taormina in late August and early September. It is an establishment of quality and refinement well placed in Taormina, not in the centre but a pleasant walking distance from the town proper, through the botanical gardens. We especially appreciate the large pool with its small cafe that's perfect at lunchtime.
“Hotel position”
The hotel was in a beautiful position. Views overlooking the sea. Also you could see Mt Etna in the distance. The hotel was right next door to a beautiful small park. If booking this hotel a balcony is an added bonus.
“best location and fantastic views”
wonderful location, we had views across the sea looking at Etna couldn't have been better. The hotel is in a great location for going into town and eatng in fantastic reataurants. The swimming pool wasn't open but we were able to swim in the sister hotel's indoor pool. The pool will be lovely as the views are amazing.
“Attentive staff”
Excellent views across bay and of Etna. Short distance from centre of old town and main attractions. Cable car to good beach. First class restaurant.
“Not quite what I had expected”
The photos on the website are better than the actual hotel - to be fair this should be qualified as the pool and bar areas are better than the photos with a stunning view and lovely helpful service. The dining and internal areas are a bit tired and the bedrooms ? The photos on the site are def not of a standard bedroom. The bathrooms was huge the rooms space was tiny in fact the bathroom was probably bigger or as big as the bed space basically with two twin beds we had to step on and off the bed to get round. The hotel seems more geared to conference business than tourism and whilst the restaurant staff were helpful any of the pre booking information agreed with the reception was ignored so basically I felt like I had wasted my time communicating with them. I really am a no complainer type normally but I love my holidays and work really hard for them moreover I had taken my Mum who is 73 - she is the age where treats like this are really important and I feel like the hotel let us down. Perhaps our expectations were too high ? Don't let it put you off Sicily though its a great place and good for a long weekend and if your on the type of trip where your hardly in your room then the price and location and good breakfast and views from the common areas should be enough for you to book this hotel.
“Nice Hotel with good location, Pity about their poor reception/concierge service!”
The location was central and the views in (certain) rooms were beautiful. However the reception staff where unhelpful to say the least. On checking-in late night we were given the only available room, which had no views, no balcony and little natural light on the lowest -2 level. When we asked to change the room we were told to wait till the morning as there was no night manager. In the morning we changed at an extra fee since we booked a classic room, whereas the rooms with the view were the "superior" ones. Although my impression was that the room booked would have a view, we accepted to upgrade. The higher level room was recently refurbished which looked much nicer and modern, the view facing Mt. Etna was fantastic. However we had a problem with the Climate control A/C as it was not cooling. Funnily enough the reception told us it was not yet summer to complain for heat! Nevertheless they did not bother much or at least provide a fan! Certain room amenities which have been advertised were not provided but the biggest joke was that the "superior" rooms do not have any internet access. According to the reception they are out-of-range from the router (Ironically the classic rooms have internet!). Parking is very limited and very tight and I was somehow reluctant to leave the keys of an expensive sports car to the hotel. Breakfast was good & waiters are helpful. All in all if they fixed these issues it would be highly recommended mainly for its location and views.
“Wouldn't Go Back”
Good location, good pool and sun terrace(although shuts at 6pm) This isn't a bad hotel and is in a good spot but it is not as good as it thinks it is and some of the staff haven't realised this. It is convenient for going out in Taormina, the breakfast was ok (staff a bit bossy). Room was adequate although it wouldn't class it as superior, but it did have a good view of etna, with a good bathroom I'm not sure how it compares to other hotels in Taormina but it seemed a bit expensive for what you got.
“Might become a 4* once the major refurb' has been completed”
Bathroom had bad drain smell which also made the room smell. Had to be moved twice to to broken bath, window which covered the wall so anyone could have access from outside(low level room), broken hairdryer etc etc! All 3 rooms we stayed in had bathrooms which were mouldy with broken and missing tiles. Major building works going on, the whole floor above us was closed as the workmen carried out refurb'. The outside gardens and terrace were littered with tools and rubbish, yeelow bins dangled down the outside of the hotel. Get up early if you want breakfast from the buffet as staff don't replace the food once its been eaten and don't clean the tables. If you want cutlery I'll save you the hunt -theres a dark wooden cabinet at the back of the dining rooms - check the top draws. Awful experience!!!!

Area:
Taormina, Italy: A balcony setting on Mount Tauro with a sweeping view of Sicilys coastline and Mount Etna gives Taormina its lasting appeal. It is Sicilys only truly international resort, much-favoured by celebrities. The old quarters steep, narrow alleys are filled with window boxes and painted pottery, and best explored on foot. Main sights are the classical remains and Renaissance palaces. The Greco-Roman theatre is still used for concerts and festivals.
