“Lovely views, shame about the room.”
If you want beautiful views over the bay toward Giardini Naxos and Etna beyond, you won't be disappointed. Unfortunately the room felt very dated and the house service, despite their enthusiasm to turf us out to clean the rooms didn't seem to be making much impact. The room suffered a bit from damp as there was no extractor fan from the en suite bathroom, which in itself probably wouldn't be a problem in high season with the searing temperatures but we visited in early October when the warmth of the day just didn't dry things out enough. The maids also didn't replenish our stock of shower gel or shampoo despite our stay of three nights. We resorted to using the stuff we brought with us so it was no big deal. But really you shouldn't have to ask for this, especially when you're paying over a hundred pounds per night. Which brings me to the breakfast, a buffet affair which was a bit lack lustre to say the least. They couldn't even serve milk that was properly chilled, or granola that wasn't soft.. Free WiFi made up for things slightly even if it was restricted to their communal lounge but then I'm a techy and I had been starved of internet access for over a week until we arrived here. So overall, I can't recommend this hotel and I won't be returning any time soon.
“Excellent service, friendly place”
A beautiful location with breathtaking views of both mt Etna and the sea. Lovely terraces and clean, unfussy and comfortable rooms-fresh sheets and towels daily. Large salon for sitting in and free internet access and use of computer. Lovely staff- go all out to help you. Lovely breakfast served till a reasonable hour. Extremely quiet and a short walk into town. Close to steps leading down to the beach of Isola Bella (though this is a bit of a walk) which is very beautiful. Highly recommended. we would definitely stay again.
“Average hotel, but amazing views!”
Bel Soggiorno is a charming old fashioned hotel; furniture is old, building is old, the whole place reaks old and musty, like an Italian Fawlty Towers. The beds were really bad and the bathroom looked like something from a hospital, but the staff were lovely, the breakfast was plentyful and the view was amazing. Location was good on the main road with approx. 10 min. walking to central Taormina. Note that they offer free parking and internet and there is no tea & coffe fac. or fridge in room. With its faults I can still highly recommend Bel Soggiorno as it is romantic, pretty and again, the view of Etna and the Naxos bay was spectacular (room 9). If you want modern with pool, go elsewhere, if you want old family mansion charm, then it will do the trick. And price is OK compared to alternative offers in the very expensive Taormina.
“Great Experience”
My family and I loved this hotel. Carlo, Luigi, and the other staff members were all very courteous and helpful. The views from the hotel are magnificent. The breakfast was consistently good and the views from the dining room and patio overlooked the sea. There is a tradeoff in the walk up the stairs to town, but every time we returned to our room and that view, we knew we had made the right decision. Even if you take a taxi into town, the cost is easily offset by the savings on the cost of the room. Considering what you receive in the awesome view and quality of service, when compared to the prices of the hotels in the main area of Taormina, this hotel is an absolute steal. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who comes to Taormina.
“Beautiful views from a lovely peaceful hotel”
Taormina is a wonderful place to visit and the Bel Soggiorno an ideal place to stay to enjoy it. The hotel has excellent views over Giardini-Naxos with Etna as a backdrop. Save a large taxi fare from the airport and take a coach from there (blue operated by ETNA) for E5.40 per person. It passes by the hotel and about a half mile further on in the same road (after a few more hairpins) terminates at the Taormina bus station. You can walk back from the bus station along the road (about a 12 minute walk) but take care as for much of it there is no pavement! Our room was always kept immaculately clean and had a large double bed. Whilst the bed was firm it was still very comfortable. Our room opened onto a very large shared terrace looking over the sea and had a large round table, two chairs and two new sunloungers. Breakfast, served immediately below us, was always varied and there is a choice of sitting outside or in the large breakfast room. Don't expect good TV (local Italian programmes only). The staff were all polite and very helpful. To get to the town is an energetic walk so you need to be quite fit. After climbing out of the hotel drive, a short walk to the right leads to a series of steps that take you away from the main road and into the centre of Taormina, a great way to start the day. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and not having a restaurant for evening meals in the hotel is no disadvantage as there are many restaurants to choose from in Taormina.
“Amazing views and great hospitality”
Albergo Bel Soggiorno is a gem! Carlo and his staff were gracious and accommodating. The hotel is full of charm - from the incredible views to the lovely breakfast (with fresh figs from the garden!) our stay couldn't have been more comfortable. The rooms are generously sized and spotlessly clean. If you're wondering why the cost of this hotel is less than most in Taormina, my guess would be that it's because of the location. A bit "downhill" from the town center, guests must climb a particularly long set of stairs to reach the main streets. We were jokingly referring to them as the Spanish Steps of Taormina. For what it's worth, I worked off all the food I ate (constantly) and didn't gain any weight during our visit. Cab rides into the town center aren't practical as there's a set 10 euro fee and, for a 3 minute ride, it's a very poor value. Were I to stay at Bel Soggiorno again, I think I'd rent a scooter.
“clean & friendly”
You need to have some fitness as the hotel is a good walk from the town centre, all up hill. 10 euros by taxi. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Excellent views from your balcony.
“Very pleasant”
The clerk at the desk was very helpful in every way, helping park our rental car and turning it around in a tight space in the morning, giving excellent directions. The dining room is lovely. I was very pleased with this hotel.
“Loved this hotel in Taormina”
We LOVED this hotel, once we found it. Taormina is tricky to navigate with a car. The hotel is very old world, yet the lap top with free internet was a bonus. All rooms open out to a terrance. The views are spectacular...the Meditteranean is in front of you and Mt. Etna is to your right. The rooms are very simple, but clean. Our room had an upstairs sitting room, which we never used, but handy if one wanted to read or watch TV. Breakfast on the patio or in the dining room was a delight....a good assortment of fresh fruit, yogurt, cornetti ( Italian croissant), honey, granola, meats and cheese. The hotel is located a little down the mountain from Taormina, but a "short cut" up a hidden flight of stone steps takes you to the English Garden. Another short walk takes you to the center of town. If you do arrive by car, there is parking on site. The hotel is quiet, which was great because Taormina can get very noisy with all the visitors. Would go back in a second.
“Hotel Bel Soggiorno: comodo al centro di Taormina”
Hotel di un tempo, ma con un certo fascino: ottimo il panorama sulla baia e sull'Etna. Molto gentile e disponibile il personale.

Taormina, Italy: A balcony setting on Mount Tauro with a sweeping view of Sicilys coastline and Mount Etna gives Taormina its lasting appeal. It is Sicilys only truly international resort, much-favoured by celebrities. The old quarters steep, narrow alleys are filled with window boxes and painted pottery, and best explored on foot. Main sights are the classical remains and Renaissance palaces. The Greco-Roman theatre is still used for concerts and festivals.
