“Nice room but not ready for customers”
We stayed in the Grand Palace part and the rooms were lovely. Other guests had to upgrade to this part of the hotel as their rooms were too small. Only one of the pools was open in april and they were cleaning the other and making a lot of noise. Food choices and quality was awful. We complained and got a full refund of our dinner. Went out after that. Staff very helpful, but they definitely hadnt got used to having guests around - maybe because they had only opened 2 weeks before following the winter shoutdown.
“lovely-but needs tweaking”
Beautiful location and views, although couldnt get to the shore so tantalizingly close because of main road and railway line! free shuttle to beach was good, but beach a bit disappointing...lovely hotel, great design especially descending to pool area. Only real critisism was room service/communication, my partner was ill so we needed room service a few times, had to try lots of numbers and each contradicted each other, said a different menu at different times and sometimes refused altogether!
“not what it promised”
Beautiful scenery and pleasant room were spoiled by a series of disappointments. The 'spa hotel' as we had booked it said the manager had shut the spa - no explanation, just no, you can't go in!Very disappointing as it had been a reason for booking. Service was curt throughout - on arrival we were told - go up 6 floors, across a bridge and up another 3 floors - with that the receptionist walked away and the 'porter' legged it! The shuttle service into taormina was much reduced - go at 12 or 4, rather than hourly as advertised. The restaurant was appalling - school dinner food - nothing like the fresh meals you would expect or as were advertised.
“A very disappointing experience”
Despite the name, this hotel is nowhere near Taormina but a good 15 minute drive away. You are therefore reliant on the shuttle bus service which is, to be fair, very reliable. This is a relief because the last thing you will want to do is spend very much time here. The food is disgusting. The chef literally could not boil an egg. Breakfast was a truly depressing experience. We had little option when we arrived but to pay for the evening buffet - which was 1970's works canteen food at 32 euros a head (without drinks). I did not think it was possible to eat such badly cooked, cheap and nasty ingredients in Italy. Plastic parma ham anyone? Or risotto with uncooked rice? Or even some other diners' leftovers!! This was galling because the cheapest local restaurant in Sicily will sell you a decent meal for a fraction of the price. Service at the hotel was begrudging and the staff seemed bored and uninterested. They do nothing unless you chase them two or three times. The final straw was when they forgot our wake-up call on the last day - luckily we didn't trust them to remember so had set our own alarms. The hotel seems to be designed for coach parties of pensioners who require the minimum of attention and, presumably, have very low expectations. If we went back to this part of Sicily, it would be cheaper in the long run to pay a bit more to stay in Taormina itself (one of the more expensive towns in Sicily but not even there would they try to sell you a can of coke for 4 euros!)
“Greart disappointment”
The Hotel reception staff were very unhelpful when I asked if possible on the first day to change our room, due to the mould in the shower and hard mattress. Our room never had the floor swept for one week. Would suggest to book a room ONLY in the recent new building. Hotel food good. Drinks expensive. Very far out from any centre. Not able to walk anyway as situated on a main busy road. Shuttle bus took 20 mins: into town; runs infrequent times and you must book your seat in advance as there are only 12 seats.

Area:
Taormina, Italy: A balcony setting on Mount Tauro with a sweeping view of Sicilys coastline and Mount Etna gives Taormina its lasting appeal. It is Sicilys only truly international resort, much-favoured by celebrities. The old quarters steep, narrow alleys are filled with window boxes and painted pottery, and best explored on foot. Main sights are the classical remains and Renaissance palaces. The Greco-Roman theatre is still used for concerts and festivals.
