“great location, hotel needs refreshing”

Mennagio is bar none the best town and best location on the lake; best piazza with shops, cafes, restaurants and ambiance. The hotel and staff are charming. However our room was austere and cramped. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. I would recommend staying here however be sure to reserve an upgraded room with a balcony and not a standard room.

“Would return to this hotel”

we had an excellent stay. Hotel well situated and well maintained. Staff very friendly and helpful, food excellent. Only slight draw back was noise from a neighbouring bar over the weekend, but this did not detract from our overall enjoyment.

“Great hotel a liitle on the geriatric side”

Clean room, comfortable bed, bath had no shower but did have hand-held rinse and jacuzzi tub worked great. Excellent views of lake. Menaggio is quieter than Bellagio. Good breakfast buffet. We stayed 3 nights in early June. The hotel was almost fully booked by an English tour which added a different European feel to the Italian setting. The porter Amaris is a kick....Check him out. He recommended a good local trattoria.

“Superb location but lacking a four star service”

The hotel is in a fantastic position and one of the few hotels that's lucky enough to actually back out onto Lake Como. It's also next door to the boat service which takes you across the lakes to the other little villages scattered around the water. First impressions are very good as the hotel lobby, restaurant, bar and outside space appear to be in fantastic condition. The basic priced rooms, however, aren't quite to the same standard. The bathroom in our hotel had a leaking shower and was without a screen and curtain which meant that everytime you washed the whole bathroom would become flooded. Service is mixed with some of the staff proving to be warm, welcoming and helpful while others came across as aloof and unwilling to help. We visited in May, out of season, and the hotel was pretty much dominated by British travellers. The average guest age appeared to be about 65+, which may be something some younger guests may not warm to if they're looking for more of a lively, loud atmosphere.

“Will definitely stay there again”

Excellent location. Contrary to other reviews, the close proximity of the ferry did not bother us at all. In fact it was quite handy to have the ferry terminal so close to the hotel. The hotel had the best views of all the Grand hotels in the surrounding areas. Hotel itself was very good but could have been even better if the outdoor pool was heated and the staff were a bit more friendly. Food in the hotel although pricey was excellent. Would strongly recommend booking the St Moritz excursion through the hotel. The journey on the Bernina express through the Alps was breathtaking.

“Best Hotel in Mennaggio, stay here!”

Wow, wow, wow, what am amazingly wonderful hotel experience. We loved it! The hotel is beautiful and ultra elegant and romantic. The views are breathtaking and the pool and outdoor areas sublime. Fabulous indeed, go here!

“A great place to explore the Lakes.”

This was our first trip to the Italian Lakes so had no experience of regional hotel standards or position. I can only say that we had a great time, the hotel is in a great position, close to the Ferries which is important - the ferry announcements (I'd say once an hour at most) didn't bother us one bit. All staff were very friendly and helpful. The front desk gave us some great advice and answered all of our questions. Pool was great, not too crowded considering the time of year. Plenty of natural shade from the trees and bushes - so easy to escape the sun if you wish. We only had breakfast in the hotel which was fine/adequate - dinner seemed expensive at 38 Euro per head - just head into town for some great food - 5 minutes walk. Supermarket next door - it's an Aladdin's cave of products!! We had hoped to go to Milan for the day - just felt it was too far to travel.

“Not Impressed”

On arrival after a 5 hour transfer from Malpensa airport Milan the check in was fine, room very nice, had paid for a lakeside view & that was worth paying for. Day 2....Thought we would have a restful day around the pool! no sun umbrella's! there were trees but we were not allowed to put sun loungers on the grass & as it was 35deg shade was needed. No waiter service around poo.Every morning the pool man would put towels on 4 sun loungers for guests that were staying in what i think to be private hotel residence! of course this was in the shade & only 2 persons ever used this area! We ate once in the a la carte dining area, food was very poor. After our one experience of eating in the hotel we decided to eat out. We found the The Hotel Corona service was excellent as was presentation of the food it was of a very high standard & could not fault it. The Grand Hotal Menaggio could learn alot from them. Overall comfort of hotel good, staff we found unhelpful & not at all friendly. In fact quite rude at times. We would not return to this hotel for that reason. Lake Como is a very beautiful place to visit . I wish i could say the same about the hotel.

“Excellent location with old world amenities”

We enjoyed our stay at the Grand Hotel Menaggio. Its location right near the ferry dock made travel to other Lake Como towns easy. The hotel had old world amenities combined with very recently updated decor. Make sure to book a room with a lake view or you will be facing a busy street.
