“we were so impressed”

This hotel was so much better than we were expecting. The pictures online don't do it justice. We loved our room which was an extended studio and loved the fact that the hot tub on the roof never closes. The complimentary breakfast was great as well as the complimentary dinner with beer and wine. Wow. The service from everyone was outstanding, especially at the front desk. ( Jesse ) We would definately stay at this hotel again. The location was good, only a short 3-4 block walk to Beale St.

Area recommendations

Downtown Memphis walking distance to Beale St as that's where it's all happening and lot's of cops around so you feel safe.

Must see

The marching ducks at the Peabody Hotel...bring your video camera. If you're into Elvis you should take the tour through Graceland.

Nightlife

We loved going to BB King's club as the food was great...( ribs ) but especially because the live music was excellent. Also, it was non smoking where the other places were too smoky inside.

“Best Southern Hospitality”

The hotel is located downtown, close to main attractions and within walking distance of the famous Beale Street, the must-see Civil Rights Museum, the Memphis Trolley Service and the free Sun Studio shuttle to Sun Studios and Graceland. There are not enough words to describe the quality of service and staff.They go above and beyond to ensure your stay is fabulous. They are incredibly friendly, hospitable and make you feel as though you are at home.Everyone from management, the front desk, breakfast room and cleaning staff ensure that you are greeted each day and engage with customers (provided customers want to talk). Indeed, the hotel becomes a home away from home. Will only return to the Residence Inn if I return to Memphis. Not to be missed.

“Superb central location”

Disabled room was somewhat ouy of focus but otherwise excellent position etc. Impressed by check in personnel saying that street parking was free over the weekend

“Would stay at this hotel again”

The hotel staff was always polite, courteous and helpful. Eager to please. Great location & within walking distance to town and great restaurants. Would definitely stay at the Residence again!

Middle of October seemed to be a great month - wasn't hot or humid - couldn't have asked for better weather.

Hotel staff were welcoming, friendly and fun. The room was very comfortable and had a full kitchen. If one could ask for more, it would be for a flat screen TV. The air conditioning was showing its age with excessive fan noise however it was liveable. Parking was available around the corner in a parking station. We found Memphis fascinating and very friendly.

Apart from the fantastic STAX and SUN studio musuems and ofcourse Graceland, visit "millionaires row" on Adams Avenue to view and tour these grand mansions from the 1840 - 1850s.

Dining

Gus' Fried Chicken in Memphis was the best Southern Fried Chicken we encountered in the South.

“Memphis' Rocking Hotel”

From the minute we entered the hotel and met Jerome, to our checkout, which we really didn't want to do (!), we couldn't have had a better experience. Thanks to all, especially Olga, for the advice and help - Memphis is a fantastic city and we can't wait to go back - and will stay at the Residence Inn again. Be sure to be on hand during shift change, when everyone gathers in the lobby to sing! Great breakfast buffet also - very attentive waiters on hand.

Area recommendations

Definitely Beale Street! Some great restaurants with down-home cooking, lots of great bands, and the Beale Street Flippers - and be sure to see Sun Records studio - but take a taxi - we thought it was closer, but it's actually several miles, which we walked! They have a great tour of the studio. Also have to mention Mud Island - we attended a concert there that was magical - the stage is set with the Memphis skyline in the background and the sun was setting behind us and Bob Dylan was fantastic!

“Excellent, will definitely use again”

There are a lot of choices for hotels in the downtown area and having stayed in a couple of them I would definitely recommend this as one of the best. The staff were very friendly and helpful, room was clean and very spacious. Having a fridge was a great bonus. The breakfast is great, a lot of choice and sets you up nicely for the day.

Getting around

Make use of the free bus between the Rock 'N' Soul Museum, Sun Studio and Graceland’s, it can save you a lot on taxi fares. The Main Street trolley is great, try to take a trip on the River Front Loop.

Must see

Beale Street is a must. The Blues City Cafe is excellent for both food and music as is BB Kings. Other great places are Graceland’s, Sun Studio, Rock 'N' Soul Museum, Gibson guitar factory (tours get booked up quickly) Stax Museum and the Lorraine Motel (National Civil Rights Museum).

“Wonderful location!”

The location of this hotel is great -- it is within a few blocks of the river; it is a block from the trolley stop that takes you to the National Civil Rights Museum and other attractions; and, you can take a trolley or walk to Beale St. (just a few blocks). It is right around the corner from several very good restaurants, including the Rendevous bar-b-que. The staff is very friendly. My only criticism is that there is no restaurant or bar on premises. It would have been nice to order up room service or have a glass of wine late night to carry to the rooftop. The breakfast was adequate.

The center city neighborhood where this hotel is located is perfect.

When to go

July was far too hot -- the temperatures exceeded 98 degrees. It was uncomfortable.

Getting around

This is a great city for walking. We were able to take a cab from the airport and walk or take the trolley everywhere.

Must see

Must see Beale Street, Mud Island (the Mississippi River exhibit is incredible), the National Civil Rights Museum, the Backbeat bus tour (music tour of city).
