"Great hotel, but needs to try harder for a 5 star"
The positives: the staff are friendly and helpful (and manage to speak to a veritable United Nations of guests at any one time); it's located right on the beach, with some good beach-side restaurants near by; the gym is pretty good; the grounds are immaculate, as are the pools; there's an adults only pool, too. The rooms are very comfortable and well appointed; shower is great and bath fills quickly; some nice complimentary items in the bathroom; breakfast buffet has a big range; easy walk into Maspalomas to shops, bars and restaurants.
Could do better: the wifi is absolutely terrible; the pillows aren't very comfortable (gave me bad neck ache all week); no coffee/tea facilities in the room (I'd expect it as standard in a 5*, not just for 'privilege' customers); the spa isn't free to use (and I recently stayed at a 4* hotel with a free-to-use spa); the layout is confusing to start with; no lift to the underground car park and the lift in building one doesn't go to the ground floor (just poor design).
It IS a very nice place to stay, and the sun shone almost all the time. The atmosphere is relaxed, there's always somewhere to sunbathe if you want to.
I spent 5 nights at the Villa Del Conde with my sister. We had a wonderful time of quiet relaxation. Staff were efficient and attentive. The rooms were extremely spacious and spotlessly clean. Our room was located near the "Quit Pool" and was perfectly situated for easy access to all amenities. Breakfast was excellent with a vast array of fruits, meats, cheeses and breads on offer. My only criticisms would be that for a hotel of this caliber one would expect WiFi to be free throughout the hotel and not be subject to a charge in your room. The charge of €2.50 a day for the safe also seems a little misplaced in a 5 star hotel. The charge also for the bottled water left out in your room was unexpected - while it was highlighted that goods from the minibar would be charged for there was nothing to indicate the water left out was only available to you at a cost. Given that the tap water is not drinkable I think a solitary complimentary bottle of water would not go astray in a 5 star hotel.
We were extremely pleased with all aspects of this hotel from the pool to the marvellous gardens. The rooms are very discrete, the staff meticulous and half board represents Excellant value.
Located within easy walk of the beach and quality shops this hotel is right up there with the best.
A return visit for sure.

We had a superior room and it really was worth it with a fab huge terrace with table and chairs and sun loungers. Also the bathroom was to die for!
The staff were all very polite and friendly - very well trained in all aspects of hospitality - whether it was the receptionist on arrival, the bar and dining room staff or the gardener.
The food was excellent with a good choice of starters, main courses and desserts. Something for everyone.
After reading previous reviews we were slightly unsure but it was nothing like they said. Staff we very friendly and helpful. We asked to change rooms as it was close to the kids pool and they were very unstanding, we'd come away without our children and didn't want the noise!
Our room was lovely, clean, spacious and had a nice little terrace to enjoy a drink on.
The food was fantastic, something to enjoy at every meal time. Only problem on the Saturday night was the que! We waited for it to die down but it was mental!
Overall the hotel and our weekend away was amazing and very relaxing. We recommend this hotel and we can't wait to book again.

Initially we did not get the room we expected. It took 2 days before we were transferred to a suitable room. We felt that we were being unfairly treated. The hotel staff member at the time of arrival stated that the hotel was overbooked. This gave us the impression that we were NOT valued customers.Eventually were transferred.
On the southern coast of Gran Canaria island, the resort area of Meloneras borders the Maspalomas Sand Dunes, a nature reserve since 1897, and both the Meloneras and Maspalomas golf courses. The area is known for its hotels, dunes, and beaches. Tourism is the area’s main industry. The resort town of Maspalomas and the 68-metre-tall Maspalomas Lighthouse are nearby.
