“Great place to stay...”

I had read this hotel weren't clean and inacurate. My expectations were lowered until i saw the room for myself. Great set-up, rock genre feel, spacious and clean. Couldn't really ask for much more. Although bed base on wheels was annoying at first. Recommend to others to come and stay!

“Worst experience ever”

I have to tell you that firstly the staff at reception were nice and friendly. The problem we had was with the room. It was old and falling apart. Cockroaches came out at night, from the bathroom area, where there were cracks along the walls. Currently (my wife and i are both sick) . She is back home in NZ and i am in the Gold coast (it is 3 days later since departing this hotel) On our last night i was bitten by something in the room, so i am not sure what that was either. I went to the doctors yesterday, and I am feverish, i have been in bed sick for the last three days since leaving Melbourne.Today i have been able to get up and do something. I felt i needed to complain about my experience, as this whole trip has been a total disaster. I have not been able to do any business since leaving Melbourne.

Area recommendations
I don't think there is anything wrong with the area where my hotel was located. It was certainly a lovely part to wander around, however to do business, we found it was difficult to get about. We were trying to get into Central Melbourne each morning and during the rush hour it was not a pleasant experience. I think if we return to Melbourne again this year we will have to look at a better location like somewhere central.

“Funky hotel, great loaction, awesome breakfasts!”

This is a great hotel for staying in Melbourne with funky decor and even a roof top pool. We were there for the Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend and it was ideally located only 10-15 min walk from Albert Park. It is also only about a 20 minute walk from Chapel Street for you shop-a-holics. The city is also only a 5 min walk and a 10 min tram ride away. It is located in a great area with a park close by for those who want a morning stroll. The staff that serve breakfast are extremely lovely people and they serve awesome food. I love this hotel and would definitely recommend it and would stay here again when visiting Melbourne. 9.5/10

Dining
France Soir Restaurant just up Toorak Road (towards Chapel Street) is divine.

“Great location”

A reasonably priced hotel for Melbourne. Loved the location, tree lined streets, just out of the CBD but close enough to transport to be in the city within 5 minutes by tram. Staff were friendly and helpful. Bathroom needed a good clean though. I would stay here again but probably go for a room overlooking the street.

Area recommendations
South Yarra was a great place to stay. Quiet tree lined streets and a short walk to restaurants and trams.

“Massive dive in quality and comfort”

Having stayed at this hotel numerous times, I was very very disappointed with my most recent visit. Despite checking with the hotel about damage to the room following the floods, the room was musty and damp with no fresh air and non of the windows would open. It made for a very unpleasant experience. Upstairs on the roof they had towels all over the floor to mop up the water from a flood that took place one week prior! Not at all impressed this time around. One staff member on reception even ordered me to sit down while she served another customer.

“Friendly despite flaws”

Albany is an old hotel with occasional bizarre updating. Room was reasonable size but tv is mounted high on the wall and the remote did not work. Bathroom has been partially updated but the toiletries shelf is broken and threatens to crash on the floor. The requirements are there but minimal and shabby. It is way overpriced but I was there during the Australian Open. However staff were very friendly and the neighborhood is lovely.

Area recommendations
Lovely cafes and convenience stores on Domain Road at the end of the street. Cafes and boutiques along Toorak Rd. Lovely botanic gardens across Domain Rd.
Getting around
Use the tram system which is inexpensive and reliable.

“Location, Location, ... crummy room.”

The location is fabulous, in a great neighborhood, near the beautiful botanic gardens, fine restaurants, excellent public tranport. The rooms are below acceptable, small, poorly oufitted (ours had no drawers for clothes and virtually no closet space. The TV was coal-fired, I think. While clean, everything in the room was poorly maintained (peeling wall paper for example.) So, I would try to find something else nearby if I were you.

“So So”

The location is wonderful and the hotel itself is not too bad but the bedroom i had was extremely poor and in serious need of refurbishment. I believe I was in one of the older rooms but the website does not give the impression that the older rooms are so bad. The newer rooms may be fine.

Melbourne is a wonderful city...period!
