“Room for improvement...”
We've stayed in this hotel many times over the years even when it used to be called Saville. We stayed in Room 1208 (Queen/Two Singles) for four (4) nights. Room furniture has been updated, but the bathroom fittings and shower/bath leave a lot to be desired. Washing machine and dryer whilst they work, are dated. Tiles were cracked and the grout marked. The room cleaner did a poor job and the tea and coffee supplies were never replenished. Clean, quality sheets and a comfortable bed. The hotel is ideally situated close to the city and also to Carlton. Undercover parking is available but pricey. Reception is friendly and helpful.
“Good location, good rooms, not so good service”
We chose Mantra on the Park as it was very close to Lygon Street, the Melbourne Museum and Exhibition Centre all of which we visited. It is on the Free Tram route, making it an ideal base for all of Melbourne City. The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. Where they let themselves down was in service - the pool had a pile of used towels that looked like two day's usage on Sunday morning and no clean ones. The buffet breakfast in the restaurant was mediocre, one choice of cereal, plus muesli, no eggs, by the time they came, there was no bacon and no hash browns. The access to the hotel from the car park is closed off at night, but no signage saying so, we were taken to the deserted top floor of the car park, no matter what button we pushed. If they pay a bit more attention to service, then you can have an enjoyable stay here.
“Great - would go again”
The hotel was centrally located and within easy walking distance of all central activities. Free circle tram stop just on the corner as well as other trams. Beautiful Carlton Gardens across the road. Apartment was very comfortable and everything necessary for self catering. Clean. No compendium to tell you about the hotel amenities. Found out later that it is on the TV. Would highly recommend - especially if you can get a good deal through expedia. Staff very helpful.
“Great location, price and comfort”
Stayed at Matra on the Park for five nights, two adults a five year old and a two year old. Clean and comfortable, helpful and friendly staff and a great location opposite Carlton Gardens and Melbourne Museum. Free City Circle tram stop outside, but within walking distance of Vic Markets, QV Centre for food and restaurants. Highly recommended.
“Good value hotel”
Excellent location. A little dated but still comfortable. Ask for a room with a balcony and view over Carlton Gardens and the Royal Exhibition Centre.
“Would stay again, fantastic service”
Very happy with our stay, the hotel is newly refurbished and is modern and clean, all new appliances in kitchen and laundry/bathroom. The staff were fabulous, very friendly, approachable and more than happy to provide advice when asked. Only complaint is that the shower was a bit dodgy, but have come to expect that in most places. Good swimming pool and sauna. We got free breakfast with the deal we bought, but if you have to pay extra for it I would advise you to go and spend your money in a nice cafe somewhere. Fantastic location and was able to walk to everything, the staff here definitely give it an extra star - will definitely be staying here again on our next trip to Melbourne!
“Comport, valuable, fantastic hotel”
Mantra on the park is very comfort like our familiy's house. It is not five star hotel which is gorgeous, marbly, fancy. But they have all equipments we needs to enjoy our trip. You can have very good experience in Mantra on the park, I think.
“Acceptable but not great”
I recently stayed 5 nights in a two bedroom suite. The room was a very good size and it was good having two bathrooms with a family of four. Having a kitchen was also useful. The hotel is well located close to the Museum and the free city circle tram, but we often walked into the city centre (twenty - thirty minute walk). Service was always friendly and helpful. Now for the downsides- the hotel feels very "tired" - carpets in the passageways look past their use by date; our kitchen bench was very marked and should have been replaced long ago; and the couch was looking tattered in places. It looked like a three star standard rather than a four star hotel - you can live with it but it does not give the impression of quality. We note that the hotel is undertaking upgrades at present, so it may be better in the future. Daily room cleaning was a bit haphazard - towels were replaced and rubbish removed one day, but the beds were left unmade and tea and coffee supplies not topped up. It is a good hotel and I would stay there again because of the good room size and location, but I would describe it as a 3 to 3.5 star hotel, not a four star standard.
“Very good location”
Very good location,Trams right outside the door and easy walk to the city
“Fantastic value”
Stayed for 4 wonderful nights. We were able to check in at 6.30am which was great. Room was big and well appointed. Shower was hot and bathroom spacious. Would reccomend to friends.
