“Avoid this Nightmare Hostel!”
Supposedly an award winning design - Base Backpackers St Kilda is little more than a nightclub with bunk beds. If being kept up until 4.00am by thumping music and stampeding teenagers is your idea of fun then by all means go ahead book this hostel. This place is a complete nightmare and redefines what is meant by the words 'hostel' and 'hospitality' - the staff are most unhelpful - the rooms are small -and do not feel particularly secure. Despite having booked a week at this place - thankfully I was able to book an excellent hotel in Fitzroy Street around the corner for much the same price.
“Great for travellers!!”
I would recommend this backpackers as it is clean and there is alot going on. Good for meeting people from all over the world. Within walking distance of restaurants and bars + the beach.
“Fun and convenient place to be..”
The facilities are basic. Shared room but with bathroom is OK. A noisy night club is attached. There is a travel desk, and it is very useful. Computers are available, with buffet breakfast at $6 per meal. Very convenient location for restaurants, cafes, shops, and trams etc.
“Avoid at any cost!”
Ok, it was a Hostel, but even for a hostel the standards are poor and price is high. When I checked in this dude in the room told me my bed was taken... I could smell dirty feet all over the room... a couple of working boots and cement spread all over the carpet. The room was for 8 people and all 8 were Irish backpackers who have been living there for 2 months. It was a party room. Next morning I check out and found a decent hotel.
“Great Facilities,Great PARTY !”
Really modern facilities with a nightclub that pumps (Quite loud if your on the 1st flr).Friendly and good value.Handy spot with tram stop 50m.Ensuites off rooms for privacy.Smokers courtyard so that your not standing in the street.Subway food 100m.
