Better than average

Good rooms, cosy light for those who prefer sun outdoors, friendly staff. Poor internet connection everywhere inside the hotel.

Great for transit

Posted 25-Feb-2015 on Hotels
Excellent value. The hotel is located about halfway in between the train station (including trains to/from the airport) and the Tobali Tours office for minibuses to Lake Toba and both are easily walkable. This is a Novotel property and could be described as a lower range business class hotel. The rooms are good, spacious and clean and appointed with writing desks, water kettles, fridges, comfy beds and some views. The lobby and public spaces are a bit time worn. There is a grungy mall with a scattering of shops and karaoke bars. Service is friendly and professional but varies a bit depending on the person. Check in included a free welcome juice served in the lobby cafe. Breakfast is excellent-backpackers passing through will love the feast of mostly Asian food. Wifi signal seems good throughout and requires a new password for each 24 hour period. There is ostensibly a gym and cardio room but I found most of the machines to be broken. The swimming pool is excellent, all deep so good for laps with adjacent kiddie pool and open from 6 AM to 9 PM. There is also a very nice basketball and tennis court. Some rooms have great views. The biggest drawback to the Soechi is the location-literally the wrong side of the tracks. The main city center area is a few blocks away on the other side of the railway. This hotel is a good choice for flashpackers or budget tourists transiting to Toba or people just transiting through from train to bus.

Centrally Located

Posted 24-Feb-2015
The hotel is centrally located making it easy to go to attractions such as The Sultan Maimun Palace. However, some of the staff must brush up on their English language.
