We love staying in the Mayfair area for its convenience. The hotel we usually stay is way too expensive in the summer, so we opted for the Washington. It was very clean, convenient (grocery store and Nero coffee shop across street) and the staff was exceedingly friendly and very helpful. Not sure about the reviewers who say that the front desk is nasty! It can use a bit of a facelift and was a little on the pricey side (every hotel is expensive in London in the summer!), but it is 2 blocks from Green Park tube which takes you very cheaply to Heathrow. All in all, a very nice stay.
Traveller from ny,ny
In the very heart of Mayfair, this privately owned, purpose-built luxury hotel suits business and leisure travelers equally …More
Whilst this hotel claims to be a four star I would say it is more of at 3.5 Star. The location for visiting London could not be better. In the heart of Grosvenor Square you can walk anywhere within a matter of minutes. Tube (Bond Street) is less than a five minute walk.
The hotel itself is slightly dated and could do with some updates. The rooms are fairly basic, air conditioning does not really work, it blows like a fan but does not cool the room! That was my biggest compliant, as I chose this hotel because it had Air conditioning. Also you must pay for wifi!!! It was 10 pounds a day and is fairly slow at best. In todays society most hotels include the wifi with the room.
Over all thought the location makes up for ecerything, and because of that I would stay here again.
Excellent high quality hotel right on the edge of Park Lane and Hyde Park. Unfortunately this hotel is having major renovations and the reception area is very restricted at the moment, so quite tight for getting past when others are checking in and only one lift, so long waits at times, hence the average score on hotel facilities. The renovations did not affect the room which was excellent (but we did stay at a weekend and there didn't seem to be anyone working on them).
For a special weekend away I would probably come back, but the renovation work did affect the overall impression of this high quality hotel.
"Great Location. Easy walking to Buckingham Palace"
Dukes Hotel is in wonderful Knightsbridge. A short walk to Piccadilly, Green Park and Buckingham Palace.
Great shopping area and many fine restaurants. Easy access to the Tube at Green Park.
We enjoyed a fabulous martini in the bar (not to be missed!!) and had many wonderful conversations with the other guests staying in the hotel. The hotel has a nice workout facility and spa area as well.
Famous for its hotels, Mayfair holds London's most expensive homes and, on Bond Street, its most expensive shops. But the tucked-away pubs, restaurants, and shops of atmospheric Shepherd Market offer affordable local colour, too. Sandwiched between several main roads, Marylebone has a village atmosphere and a charming High Street. Nearby attractions include Madame Tussaud's and the Georgian splendours of Regent's Park, including London Zoo.
