“Dirty Hotel”
Ka'anapali Ocean Inn is the budget hotel of the Royal Lahaina Resort. Apparently, according to them "budget" means having ants and cockroaches in your room, dirty showers and paper thin walls. The rest of the resort is very nicely kept. The front desk staff could have been nicer - when we checked out, they didn't even ask if we had enjoyed our stay. They charge you $10 per day to self park your car which is ridiculous. The pools aren't heated so no one can swim in them. The beach by the hotel is nice though. We attended the onsite luau which was fun and the food was good. The drinks were pretty bad though, so we just drank the beer. Long story short - I would not stay at this hotel again. There are plenty of other "budget" hotels on the island that will treat you better than this one!
“Great place, reasonably priced!”
We just stayed at the Ocean Inn for five days for a wedding at the neighboring Royal Lahaina Resort. The room was perfect for what we needed- a place to sleep at night and leave our belongings. The hotel is right on the Royal Lahaina property-next to the luau location and two minutes from the pool, restaurant, etc. The beach was great for swimming or walking along. We had a minor problem the second day of our stay and hotel management was prompt in responding and resolved it quickly. I would definitely return to the Ocean Inn.
“HIGHLY RECOMMENDED”
Close to black rock, the best snorkeling and Olowalu even better snorkeling is just down the road. Up the highway is great too but not in winter as the water is too rough. The grounds are great. Staff is wonderful. So so helpful with everything. For a budget place it was fabulous. We will be back for sure. Get one of the cabins not the hotel.
“Great place for the price if you aren't too picky”
Went with some other guys and we enjoyed the price and the location. Probably wouldn't take the wife here. It is a very old building but it is right on the beach and you have use of the adjacent hotel facilities (pool, restaurant and shops). Nice walk to Whaler's village. You can catch a bus from Whaler's village to Lahaina so you really don't need a car if you enjoy walking.
“good for price”
staff friendly, small parking spaces, great luau, bungalos nice
“About what I expected”
This is an older hotel, so expect that when you go. With the exception of the shower, it doesn't look like it has been upgraded in at least 20 years, if ever. If you don't want an older hotel, go elsewhere. What I really liked was the location, right on the beach. The rooms don't give much of a view of the ocean, but just walk outside to see it. You are in Maui! Why stay in the room? We didn't use the pools, just swam in the ocean. We were on the side of their luau, which was not too bad. The music was only loud for about an hour & my daughter enjoyed watching the show. I was glad I hadn't paid to attend this particular luau not only because we could see it for free, but because it was cheesy. The dancers were wearing plastic grass skirts! And another guest told me the food wasn't so good. Other things: The parking spaces are very small. I felt like I was squished in every time I parked. By parking in the far back (which really isn't that far) it wasn't as bad. The restaurant had a great atmosphere for dinner with a live musician & hula dancer, but the food was not impressive. You are definitely paying for ambiance. Better to get a drink at the bar to enjoy the ambiance & get food elsewhere. There is no ice machine in this hotel! I had to go over to the main resort for ice. We had some issues with an electrical short with the bathroom light that the staff tried to put off, but persistent nagging got it taken care of. I would stay here again.
“Maui Vacation”
We only stayed here one night, but the staff was excellent. We had arrived later in the evening, and when my husband went to check in he explained he is afraid of heights and needed to be on a lower level. The clerk explained they were sold out, but she would see what they could do. The clerk came back and they locked off part of a large suite so we had a hotel sized room on the ground floor. They went out of their way to accomadate us, and we greatly appreciated it. The restaurant is next to the pool and has a view of the ocean. We had a hawaiian singer seranade us at dinner, this really set the "island relaxation" in motion. They also have separate bungalows with full kitchens and living rooms for longer stays. I highly recoment this resort.
“Good value”
The Ocean Inn was a little outdated but the shower worked well, there was a little refrigerator to store food, and we got upgraded to a room with ocean view. Oh and we got to see the Luau for free!!! We shared the amenities with the Royal Lahaina which was very nic; The surroundings were gorgeous. I would definitely stay there again!
“OK for oceanfront stay”
A very basic old hotel. Nothing franzy about it but if you get an ocean view room, you will get a tiny view of the actual ocean. For the money your paying, it's not a bad deal. But after staying at the neighboring Royal Lahaina for a week, this hotel was considerably less attractive. Although sits inside the Royal Lahaina Resort, you pay for nightly parking but get all the benefits of the Resort. If your on a budget and you want to stay in a great area of Maui, this is a great option.
“Great stay for the money!!!”
Great place to stay for the money. The Inn is a little old but is still a great place to stay.
