Good location, solid hotel
Good location right near the station and a short walk away from interesting things. Hotel was a bit dated but still functional. Small room, but that's to be expected in Japan and especially for the price.

Great, other than slow wifi.
Within 3-5 mins walk to Matsumoto JR station. Hotel and room is dated slightly old, but not a deal-breaker. Extremely slow wifi. Other than that, great for its price and location.

Very convenient and clean. Rooms are traditional Japanese space. Blanket feels a bit old. traditional Japanese bath on top floor is very pleasant.

We arrived early in the day so the staff held our luggage for us until the rooms were ready. This was a great help. One room smelled heavily of cigarette smoke even though the sign on the door said non-smoking. The bathroom shower/bath is VERY small. Overall a tolerable experience based on the price.

Ok if you pay less then $50
Hotel is ok but the room was not cleaned to the standard in Japan. Numerous hair, dirty wall (I had to clean the area next to the bed before going to bed), very dusty under the bed and furniture etc... also it's quite old and would need renovation works for walls, carpets... Service and employees were good. Location is nice.

Our stay at New Station was pleasant and comfortable. It is conveniently located three minutes from the station and 15 minutes’ walk to the Matsumoto Castle. Staff were fabulous as well. Highly recommended!

Basic yet pleasant hotel
The hotel's location is its best asset, it's literally 2 minutes walk from the train station. The building and the rooms are a bit dated and narrow but it's overall quite pleasant. Facilities are basic but all working well. Beds are comfortable. We appreciate the fact that the hotel was flexible enough to reschedule at the last minute our reservation 24 hours later than originally planned without charging anything.

Close to JR Masumoto Station
Nice hotel that is close to JR Matsumoto Station and easy to get around like visiting Matsumoto Castle, restaurants. Good rest before going up to the Japan alps. Two female front desk staffs were very helpful and can speak English. I appreciated their hospitality. If you replace the bed mattress, I definitely will come back again. Thank you.

We stayed here for a night after our trip through the Alpine Route. The reception ladies were very friendly and gave us information and guides on the weather and sightseeing in Matsumoto. The room was very spacious and cozy; there were two sofas, a large dressing table, and a wall-mounted TV. After a weather-battling trip through Tateyama and Kurobe, the public bath on the 7th floor was more than I could ask for.

Good value and close to Matsumoto Station
Convenient place to stay. Matsumoto has some nice sights (castle, a couple of renovated old streets etc). Nice place for a short stay, but also good for Kamikochi day trip up into the Japanese Alps (easy walking trails in great scenery - but don't forget to carry a bear bell because black bears are sometimes sighted in broad daylight at even the popular spots, despite the number of people around). The temari balls are spectacular and make great souvenirs (a couple of souvenir shops near the top of the main road on the left approaching the castle, and there is a great ceramics/crockery/gift shop on the same street closer to the centre of town - also on the left looking towards the castle). Good place at a good price

We were thrilled with this hotel. It was very lovely and super convenient to the train and bus stations. The hotel staff was consistently accommodating and even told us about a special fireworks festival that turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. The breakfast was plentiful with lots of options. The hot tub was very relaxing.

Perfect for Stopover
Stopped overnight on my way to Hakuba. Great location, very close to the train station and lots of dining options, ok rooms were clean and relatively comfortable. For the price, it was exactly what I was looking for.

Excellent Location in Matsumoto & Friendly Staff
We had a two night stay at the New Station Hotel as Matsumoto was our base for travel in the region. The staff were extremely friendly & gave helpful suggestions for dinner. Our room was very quaint with wooden floors, a desk and large separate bathroom with huge bath (as long as a western bath and as deep as a Japanese bath. Hotel is a two minute walk to the station, there are many bars, restaurants and shops in close vicinity (within 5 mins walk). Matusmoto Castle is only a 10 minute walk away. Was a great hotel and we will definitely stay there again.

Very good value and steps from the train station. Very nice staff with some English spoken. Room was good and on a non smoking floor but it had an odor like it had been a smoking room at some point. No big deal. It didn't really bother me but I did notice it. If your super sensitive to old smoke smell it might bother you. Just speaking for my room. I don't know about the other rooms. Room was small but perfectly adequate. Quiet.

I stayed here for 10 hours getting dinner and some sleep before heading out to Kamikochi. Hotel was very close to the station, professional staff, clean and very convenient. Area is good for dinner and drinks. It was perfect for a one day layover but I wouldn't have minded staying here for a few more days.I had been to Matsumoto before and the castle is a 15 or 20 minute walk from here so it's also a good choice for a tourist.

Personnel were more than helpful, made phone calls for us since we don't speak Japanese. Room was nice but very very tiny! Breakfast was wonderful, with both Japanese and Western food included in the buffet.
