the hotel was ideally located and was a very pleasant stay. the staff we encountered were friendly and they could not do enough fo us during our stay. I only wish we had stayed for more than one night.
Lets first start with the bad, the valet service is very incompetent. Why have any at all? they dont help with you with your bags, don't open doors, don't greet you... At least they hailed a taxi once. The rest of the staff, specially room service and housekeeping are very helpful and cordial. The room while small (i was offered an upgrade to a bigger one) was very functional.
We checked in about 8.30pm and were told that we had the choice of only two rooms that were left. The first was on the lower ground floor, with air conditioning, the second, on the ground floor, without. We opted for the lower ground floor room, because of the a/c but immediately upon entering we knew we had made a mistake. The room was over the metro and was extremely loud and the vibration would have made it impossible to sleep. We quickly returned to reception and requested the other room, explaining about the noise, and the receptionist promptly moved us to the other room. However she did not seem surprised about our reason for the room change and I am sure she had heard that comment from guests before. The hotel cannot be held directly responsible for the running of the metro underneath, but as we had made the booking some months previous, felt we should have been allocated another room initially, on a floor where this problem would not arise.
Really pretty quiet little hotel in a very central location. Handy for the tube. Staff very friendly and helpful. We probably didn't have a room in the best location of the hotel ( next to dining room so noisier when they were gearing up for breakfast) but the standard of the furnishings and cleanliness made up for any inconvenience. Highly recommend this lovely little hotel.
Durrants is a lovely, small hotel with a lot of British charm. The building itself is beautiful and rooms are well furnished. Staff is courteous, hotel is very quiet, as is the street. Lots of cafes and shops nearby, and close to several tube lines. Only complaint is that the wifi access in the rooms was sometimes inconsistent, but there is a lobby and lounge with strong wifi and ample comfortable seating.
