I planned a trip to Marrakesh on a whim as part of a larger excursion in Europe, a place I was more comfortable with. As a solo female traveler arriving in the evening, I was initially very nervous. When I called the Riad Carina to confirm the reservation, they offered to set up an airport transport for me, and a driver picked me up from the airport, and walked me right to the door of the Riad, which is not accessible by car.
Once inside, my concerns disappeared as I was charmed by the place, and made to feel right at home. I was greeted, given mint tea and small cookies, and encouraged to relax, and settle in. The person in charge of the hotel showed me (and walked with me) to a small restaurant just around the corner, and I had a very nice dinner before tucking in for the night. My room was quaint and clean, and there were rose petals scattered in it the first night -- on the linen, the bathmat, etc.
The Riad is in a nice location, a short walk from the main square and monuments, in a neighborhood which is quiet at night and very safe. I spent my days and evenings running around in the hustle bustle of Marrakesh, and then was able to escape it at night for a very pleasant sleep.
Breakfast is both tasty and is served very elegantly in a small side room, and after asking for tea with sugar on the first day, I found it automatically on my breakfast platter. Most other guests were families or larger groups of adults, and the comfortable atmosphere seemed to encourage polite conversations among the various guests (which was nice as I like to feel a sense of community.).
Overall, the place was delightful, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure that I felt at home and comfortable. I would recommend Riad Carina to anyone looking for a warm, intimate place with a cozy feeling, and particularly for couples, families, or solo travelers like me looking for something new and different.
